A sign crabby sign painter is approached by an elderly woman who seeks a free sign to advertise the apples she gives away to those in need. She wants a dynamic sign and she's not offering a dime which offends the old man. Later, he has a dream in which the late, great George Washington himself seeks a free sign and the sign painter awakens with a different perspective on the request and an overall outlook on his profession.

I really liked the old lady in this story. Her request for a free sign was brave and comes from a warm place in her heart since she is a giver by nature. The sign he creates for her is pretty stellar too. Grades 3-5.
