Ben M. Baglio created the brief for two series of children's books - Dolphin Diaries and Animal Ark. Dolphin Diaries features a girl and her family from Florida, who travel around the world as marine biologists and study dolphins. Animal Ark features two children who work together to help animals and solve animal-related mysteries. The books were written by commissioned writers in the UK under Baglio's instruction using the pseudonym Lucy Daniels. Each ghostwriter is named with a 'Special Thanks' on the copyright page.
Using his real name he also wrote the book series The Pet Finders Club, featuring a group of three children who search for peoples lost pets.
It's a good fit for children who likes animals, especially cats, and a little mystery. But even as a grown adult, I still enjoyed it cuz I'm a huge cat-lover and loved reading stories with mysteries since high school. It's best to focus on little details throughout the book cuz they all connected in the last chapter where everything was revealed and put together.
(LL) This book was surprisingly a good mystery. It was fun, and I liked reading along to see how Baglio would end the story. Definitely the best “Hauntings” of the three I own.
It's been years since I last read an Animal Ark book, so I thought I'd reread this one just for fun. It's a short book and it has likable, sweet characters and a decent plot, but there's little in the way of actual conflict and the writing is a little simplistic. There is definitely supernatural and mystery elements(but they're really not scary), and there are a couple of nice surprises at the end. I thought it was a cute, light book, but insubstantial compared even to many other children's books. I definitely enjoyed it more as a kid, and I think it's the kind of book best enjoyed by children, as I felt that it lacked the subtlety and development that would make it appeal to most adults. I plan to hand this one down to my younger cousin; she'd probably enjoy it more than I did.
