"You're not the type of girl who can attract a man. If you get proposed to within the next month, I'll give you a thousand dollars!" Charlotte is a talented graphic designer, who spends her days in baggy jeans with ruffled hair. She knew her best friend, Gabe, doesn't see her as a lady, but if he's going to make such a bet, she can't just take it lying down! Charlotte decides to get back at Gabe by dramatically transforming herself...
When best friend, Gabe, tells Charlotte she couldn't be more feminine if she tried, she's infuriated. She bets that she can get someone to propose to her in 30 days. With the help of her girl friends, she undergoes a whirlwind makeover . When she does attract male attention, and even Gabe is stunned by the new confident, beautiful Charlotte, he wishes they had never made the bet, because he's afraid he's going to lose his bff!
This is a friends to lovers story with gorgeous art. The illustrations are eye-catching, with lots of detail on facial expressions and stylish attire. I loved the art!
Gabe is a selfish jerk most of the story. He and Charlotte have been buddies since she was a young girl, and he's never had a romantic thought about her. He thinks of her as a younger sister. But when she magically spruces up her image and interested guys start crawling out of the woodwork, he does a double-take. She's beautiful, funny, and a blast to hang out with. Unfortunately, Charlotte's new neighbor noticed all of her attractive qualities first, and now Gabe has a rich playboy for his competition. Gabe was content to spend his weekends with Charlotte, enjoying her company, and expecting her to always be free for him. He is so clueless and deluded. He thought Charlotte would be content to be his buddy forever, with no deeper feelings or relationship.
This is one of my favorite tropes, and I enjoyed this fast-paced story. It's very cute, and Charlotte is easy to sympathize with. She suddenly has all of these feelz for Gabe, and because he's sworn off marriage, and he thinks of her as just one of the guys, she knows that she has no chance with him. When the most eligible bachelor around takes an interest in her, she has a hard time returning his feelings. Gabe is perfect for her, if only he's open his eyes and see her as a woman! While I don't particularly like the message that one has to change and conform to society's idea of beauty, I did find this story a fun read.
Really, one of the better Harlequin's. The bitter inside me was screaming that 'he'll get bored of you too, just wait!' Slightly unfair if I hold that against a rating. When I'm not so bitter, I think I would love another go at this. It was adorable after all. Even the bet part, which I should have found utterly horrid. It's just cute fluff. Can't go too wrong with that,
In the context of the HQ manga this is one of my favourites. For me everything works about this - the story is kept simple with the leads being best friends who discover love together. Yes, the H is clueless but I liked that. It was kept light and comedic which suits the manga art style. The art was the real draw here with some intricate work and great character design. I like how the hairstyles changed between the h being "normal" and "glammed up".
All in all I really enjoyed this one and highly recommend this one for the fans of the format.
This one's typical with the makeover trope and it's a reread favourite.
Charlotte and Gabe are the best of friends and they get up to anything and everything challenging each other over bets.
Charlotte at her friend's wedding is told by Gabe that she can't attract a guy, because she's too much of a tomboy and thus a bet is struck.
Charlotte gets into her makeover and Gabe thinks she will back down till he starts to she her as a woman and that when things get interesting.
There is a little other man drama but mostly Gabe trying to make sure he's the one who gets Charlotte all to himself.
Read this for hero and heroine hijinks are amusing heroine putting her heart into this is fun to watch hero gobsmacked when he sees heroine is lol goodness heroine's other man is not much of a distraction hero and heroine finally find their happy together adorably sweet romance
Once again, a short simple read that pulls at your heartstrings and keeps you begging for more. This was not my favorite Harlequin romance, but it succeeded in getting a smile out of me.
This is another Harlequin romance. The main characters are two people that have been best friends for a long time, Gabe and Charlotte, who is a graphic designer. Gabe is married, and his wife isn't very happy about the way he treats Charlotte.
Charlotte doesn't wear fancy clothes or go out of her way to attract a man. The two argue and she makes a bet with Gabe of $1000 that someone will propose to her withing a month.
A new neighbor named Jack, rich and handsome (of course) moves in and she's attracted to him, but Gabe becomes jealous.
This one is better than I expected (though that's not saying much since I just assumed going in that I won't like it as much). It was very sweet. It's short but there are quite a lot of content. I love the images of the characters.
found out that I don't really like graphic novels based on romance novels. I would have. liked to have read the entire original book instead of this condensed version, especially since I only read the thought bubbles and barely glanced at the graphics.
Cute story, lovely art. I have read a bunch of sample graphic novels in the Harlequin Romance Manga group, and this is a really good example of them. Very cute story, with a happy ending.
This one was a lot better than the ones I've been reading recently. The characters were cute and likable. However, the story got worse towards the end.
This was a sweet Cinderella story where Cinderella plays her own fairy god mother. It started off kind of rough and ended with the perfect happily ever after.
