Academic Writing has been written for intermediate level students who are preparing to study, or are already studying, in an academic environment and need to improve their writing skills.

This book takes students from paragraph structuring to essay writing through a process approach. It teaches learners how to order and link paragraphs into cohesive and coherent essays and to create the various paragraph types that are used in written assignments.

About the author

Dorothy Zemach is an author, editor, teacher, and teacher trainer in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). She taught English, French, and Japanese for over 18 years in Asia, Africa, and the US and holds an MA in TESL from the School for International Training in Vermont.

Now she concentrates on writing and editing English language teaching materials and textbooks and conducting teacher training workshops. Her areas of specialty and interest include teaching writing, teaching reading, business English, academic English, testing, and humor. She is a frequent plenary speaker at international conferences, and a regular blogger for Teacher Talk at Azar Grammar.

Clear and concise.

This book is ideal for those who want to develop solid foundations for essay writing in a short time. The ideas are explained simply and coherently, plenty of good examples are implemented. On the other hand, this book is over-simplified in general and does not put enough emphasis on consistency. In brief, this is an excellent start for those whose writing skills need a tune-up.

Academic writing is an essential skill that every college student should have a grasp on. In fact, one trait all leading universities have in common is the emphasis on writing proficiency and dexterity. In my opinion, academic writing lessons should be mandated on each and every educational institution to some degree.
