The recent release of "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" for XBox One spurred me to get reacquainted with some Halo lore. The book covers pretty much everything except for Halo 4. There are entries for characters, vehicles, weapons, armor, multi-player maps, ships, and much more. Lots of little details that made me excited to revisit the games. Great for any Halo fan.
One page summaries on ships, characters, planets, and guns in the Halo Universe. Honestly, you kind of wish there was more than one page on Master Chief, Cortana, Nathan Fillion, but it's still a nice summary, particularly if you've missed one or more of the Halo games.
Obviously, there's almost no point reading this if you haven't played at least 1 of the games, preferably 3+.
From a guy who's played all the Halo's (I mean ALL), this was really interesting to be able to read a detailed encylopaedia describing all of the creatures, weapons, and vehicles across the Halo universe. I learnt more about the Halo series than I thought I would and overall, it was a great read.
Halo: The Essential Visual Guide is sort of like a condensed version of the Halo Encyclopedia. Both were released in 2011. This book's 208 pages as compared to the 368-page encyclopedia. The book size is also smaller at 10 by 7 inches.
The content is arranged alphabetically and contains selected characters, weapons, vehicles and planets. The games it covers are Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars and Halo Reach. It has lots of information.
For the price it's worth it. However...
I prefer the Halo Encyclopedia because it has everything. Why get a condensed version when there's a full version available?
