When his bad luck streak ends on the day he wears a pair of yellow socks, Kevin thinks he has found a lucky charm, yet when the socks go missing, he wonders if there is anything else in his home that can take their place.
I liked this book because it shows how Kevin, the character, struggled and had a bad week until he put on his lucky yellow socks. These socks made everything better for him until he lost them one day. Once he lost them he was worried he was going to run out of luck, but soon to realize that he didn't. He was still having a good day! Overall, this shows how lucky things might really not be lucky it's just what you think about that item.
Good book to lead into a free write and/or discussion. "Do you have a pair of lucky socks or other clothing? Tell me a time when you felt like you were really lucky or unlucky." I would use this in an early elementary read aloud.
I liked this book, it was a fun and uplifting story about confidence and the little things that can make a big difference. It’s a cheerful classroom read, though slightly predictable, that still encourages positivity.
This is a cute story about a little boy who wears many different colored socks. He wears blue, green, red, striped, and yellow. Only the yellow pair brought him good luck. All of the other colors brought him grief and he was not happy. The day he wore his yellow socks, he got picked to be the star in a play, his friend invited him over to play, his basketball went in the hoop, and he got all of his spelling right. On field day he could not find the yellow socks and he did not win any of the events. But, in the end, he was awarded an award to recognize how hard he tried. This book is colorful and invited and the read is super easy. A teacher can certainly read this in a reading circle or just have it sitting in the reading corner. Or when talking about favorite colors this book can certainly be read.
And the moral is... if you try your hardest, you're a winner, even if you don't finish the race first. And who needs lucky socks to try hard? Or... something. A decent enough little book, but not one that stands out.
