Having lost their mum too young, and with a bedridden father too ill to work, the sisters learnt early to stand on their own two feet. The family's flat in the rough streets of Glasgow's Haghill is their fortress, but when Carly's ex-boyfriend Cole Alexander is released from prison, trouble soon comes knocking at their door. The Alexanders have beef with the Savages, so the girls call for back up in the shape of their uncle Eddie and his two gorgeous but dangerous sons, Harry and Dean.
As a turf war breaks out, the Savage sisters have choices to make. Stick to the straight and narrow or fight for what they deserve? And when the vicious girl gang Jane used to lead, the Unbeatable Bitches, are thrown into the mix, their minds might be made up for them. Because once a Savage always a Savage, and when the chips are down, there's no one more deadly than a Savage sister.

Author of over seventy books so far. Living on the beautiful west coast of Scotland with my husband, twin daughters and a cat called Mavis, although I am originally from Lancashire in the north of England.
My tastes in all things are eclectic, which extends to my writing. Although I primarily write crime books - especially gangland thrillers - I also write gothic historical romance and fantasy. I publish on Amazon Kindle and some of my novels are available in paperback too. I also have a traditional publishing contract with Boldwood Books.
When I'm not writing - which isn't very often - I enjoy reading Daphne Du Maurier, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, MR James and the Brontes, among many others. I also enjoy swimming, walking and spending time with my family.
As a turf war breaks out, the Savage sisters have choices to make. Stick to the straight and narrow or fight for what they deserve.
This is the first book inn a brand-new series. The Savage sisters look after their father, Alex, as he is ill and can't look after himself. Carly, Jane and Rose will do anything for their father. Carly used to have a boyfriend, Cole, but he went to prison and dumped her. Cole's brother Ross hates Carly. trouble is simmering and Alex tells the girls to get in touch with their Uncle Eddie. With all the family sticking together, this is a family not to be messed with. This is a gripping, well written, fast paced page turner. The characters are strong and well developed. I liked the Savage sisters, and each had their part to play. This is quite a violent read, so it won't be for everyone. I'm looking forward to reading book two.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #HeatherAtkinson for my ARC of #SavageSisters in exchange for an honest review.
Wow what a read. I haven't read a gritty gang land Thriller in ages and it ticked all the right boxes!
The Savage Sisters truly are Savage by name & definitely Savage by nature! Jane, Carly and Rose are the Savage Sisters. Looking after their Dad who has parkinsons they will do whatever it takes to protect him and their family.
Carly's ex Cole is out of prison and wanting her back. But his family is trouble with a capital 'T' and she wants no part of it. If only it was that simple!
The Savage brothers Dean and Harry along with Uncle Eddie turn up to help the Sisters sort out the mess. But are they there, to make things a whole lot worse or spark the Sisters Savage side....I guess you will have to read it to find out!
I have to admit this was a slow burner to start, but wow once it got going the twists just kept on coming. It was gritty, enthralling and exciting! The family loyalty and bond was great to watch unfold. The characters were really well developed and gave you all the right feels, some I loved and some I loathed. I loved the ending and it paved the way for the next installment which I can't wait to read!
Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
What an amazing start to a gangland thriller. It soon became obvious to me that I was not going to put this one down until I had read it from start to finish in one sitting.
Savage by name and savage by nature!
Three sisters Jane, Carly and Rose Savage spend their days either working or caring for their ill father, while the youngest Rose is still in school. They lost their mum to cancer and their dad has early-onset Parkinson's. He was once a feared man as were his daughters, but priorities change and they are now happy to keep their heads down and out of trouble. This is what was happening until Carly's ex, Cole Alexander, was released from prison. His elder brother Ross thought Carly was a bad influence on Cole as she wanted to avoid the family gang business. While Coel was inside things had settled but now he is out she and her family are threatened to keep away from Cole. It's a shame Cole doesn't keep away, he is desperate to make amends with Carly. It is Carly's father Alex who finally makes the decision to call his brother and nephews in.
This is a fabulous, fast-paced and danger edge of your seat crime thriller, if you are a fan of gangland crime then this is one you want to keep your eye out for.
The author has created some characters in the Savage family and some absolute psychopathic creations in the Alexander family. That does not mean that the Savage family are all innocent and sweetness, but when pushed they definitely know how to make a stand and defend themselves. Savage is one word for this family another is brutal, but that could apply to all of the characters involved.
This is one of those books that had me so addicted and the more I read the more I needed to know. The stories of the different families and how they are linked and what they have done in the past give some indications of what is to come, but it was the way the author felt like she had given them free-rein to do what was in their nature that really made this a fabulous read for me. I know they are fictional characters but I was so invested in them that they almost became real. The imagery that the author built up was amazing.
I adore this book a huge amount and it is one that I would definitely recommend if you are after a brutal, gangland crime thriller with some great scenes. I should add that there is a bit of a romance in this and it will be interesting to see if this continues in the next book. I can't wait to see what the auhto9r has in store for the Savage Sisters.
Omg what a brilliant book I couldn't put it down had me gripped from page one. Heather Atkinson sure knows how to write a gangland thriller, and it ticked all the boxes and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Can't wait to read Savage Fued the next book it this series
Savage Sisters by Heather Atkinson, this book is the start of a Brand new gritty, addictive gangland thriller series and it did not disappoint! It was brilliant and I could not put it down. I loved it. It had everything you need to keep you gripped, it was full of twists and turns throughout and all the characters were excellent.
The Savage Sisters are three sisters Jane, Carly and Rose they spend every day working or caring for their father Alex who is very ill. Rose is the youngest sister and she still is at school. Her sisters want the best for her and get good grades at the end if her school years etc and they will do anything to make sure she does.
Sadly they lost their mum to cancer, when they were young and now they are watching their beloved dad, slowly slip away in front of their eyes with early-onset Parkinson's, he was a strong but feared man of the community. They have only themselves to care and look after,
Carly's ex, Cole Alexander, is trouble with a capital "T" has just been released from prison. His elder brother Ross, thought Carly was a bad influence on Cole, because he thought she wanted him to leave the family gang business etc. and so wrong he was.
Things are getting out of hand, Carly and Jane become targets from the Ross's actions and now their dad Alex. has also become a sitting target, and he needs to do something quickly, but he can't.......he is too ill now to do anything. The only thing he can do is, make a phone call. This phone call is going to be hard! but, it has to be done! and Now before it's too late. The phone call has been made. Eddie his brother arrives with his two big sons, Dean and Harry. Now, with all the Savage's together Ross Alexander and his gang/s can be sorted!!!! and finally!

Big thank you NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author Heather Atkinson for my ARC of Savage Sisters in exchange for an honest review.
It’s back to Glasgow for a brand-new series, this time set in the Haghill area in the east end of the city where three sisters, Jane 21, Carly 19 and Rose Savage 16 share a flat and the care of their father Alec who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, since their mother died 6 years ago. It’s tough, Jane works in a call centre, Rose is at school and Carly does shifts in a pub, and there’s never enough money at the end of the day but family always comes first. The love of Carly’s life had been Cole Alexander until he foolishly got involved in a robbery with his oldest brother Ross, and ended up in the infamous Barlinnie prison where he cruelly dumped Carly. Now a free man, he tells Carly he has turned over a new leaf but has he changed for the better? Ross and their other brother Dominic are determined to keep the couple apart and teaming up with the vicious girl gang that Jane used to lead, now headed by the nasty Emma Wilkinson, they start to threaten the Savage family. Alec’s estranged brother, Uncle Eddie and his two hardmen sons Dean and Harry come to the family’s aid but amidst rumours of Eddie’s armed robbery and drug dealing history, do they have an ulterior motive for moving into the area? There’s a war coming and the Savages, wondering just who can be trusted, will all have to return to do what they do best – fighting for their family. There is lots of action and gritty language as might be expected, but still also some humour and light-hearted moments, and I loved the character of pub landlord Derek, with his tea-bag sized bladder fending off the amorous advances of some of his older female customers. Like all the other books I have read by this author, once again it was highly enjoyable, not horrific or purely out to shock like a lot of gangland stories, but down to earth and just as much about love, life and loyalty. It gives a great introduction to these very likeable main characters including some fiery young women who show they can clearly hold their own in a rough world and I am very much looking forward to another instalment in this series.
One of my favourite genres is gangland crime, and Heather Atkinson knows her stuff. Savage Sisters is the first book in a brand new series. I was so looking forward to reading this book that I started reading it as soon as I could.
Set in Glasgow, in the Haghill area of the city. Jane, Carly, and Rose Savage live with their dad Alec, who brought them up after his wife died. Now, the sisters care for him as he suffers from Parkinsons. It's a hard life, but the girls do it with love. Carly's ex-Cole Alexander has been released from Barlinnie and, along with his family, is intent on causing trouble with the Savage family.
The girl's uncle Eddie, with his sons Dean and Harry, come to help them with any trouble, but do they have a different agenda for helping? The storm clouds of war are gathering, and the Savage girls don't know who to trust. The only thing certain is that they will have to fight... and if there is one thing for sure, they can do that, well!
Gritty, authentic, and action-packed. This thriller was one that definitely delivered what it promised and more. Heather Atkinson certainly knows how to crank the tension up. I always think that the latest book is the best and then comes another one! The Savage family are all great characters. They are streetwise, and when pushed, they can definitely fight their own corner. On the other hand, the Alexanders are total nutters, for want of a better word!
I didn't realise how addictive this story would be. As each chapter flew by, I was loathe to put the book aside. The more I read, the more I needed to know. Savage Sisters lays a perfect starting block for the series. I am looking forward to the next book and finding out more about the other characters, too. Thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Jane, Carly and Rose are the daughters of Alec Savage, a hard man from Glasgow now struck down with Parkinson's. Jane has relinquished control of the Bitches gang to care for her family and Carly has been dumped by her prisoner boyfriend Cole while Rose is still at school. Now Cole is out of prison and his loyalties are divided... Savage Sisters is a gritty gangland thriller. Cole Alexander has just been released from prison and is keen to reignite his relationship with Carly Savage but their families are feuding. There are plenty of twists as Carly struggles to decide who she can trust, has to adapt to chaging relationships, and there are twists right up until the final page. Carly and her sisters have an emotional side as they cope with their father's illness. They are devoted daughters and easy to like despite their violent side. Carly has mixed emotions about Cole's release from prison and the arrival of her uncle and cousins. She wonders who she can trust, and as readers, we aren't sure either which adds to the tension and anticipation. There is plenty of swearing and violence as you would expect from this genre of book. The characters revel in violence but the one torture scene is not particularly graphic as it focusses on Carly and Dean's emotional reaction to it. The book is written in the third person throughout so we see various perspectives to understand various viewpoints and gain a greater knowledge of a range of characters. Savage Sisters is very entertaining but not for the faint hearted.
I was very happy to see that my next read was one in this genre: gangland crime. I have mentioned it before that I am a huge fan and this author is one of my favorite ones in the genre. Her writing style is very fluent and I love her characters.
In gangland crime it's all about family whether they are united by blood or not. For the bad ones, the prestige, power and money come first and they don't care if they have to sacrifice one of their own to achieve this. The good families genuinely love each other and they only use violence to protect themselves and their loved ones or trustworthy ones.
In these books the characters have to look over their shoulder constantly. They can sign contracts with other families, but can you really trust each other? Bad guys scrub up well too and some of them can be on their best behaviour in order to get what they want, but they would not hesitate to throw you under the first bus they see when they feel you are not keeping your part of the bargain.
Sometimes life happens and you are estranged from your closest family members, but when push comes to shove, the differences are put aside and they close ranges.
I really had a hard time putting this book aside. I just wanted to lock myself up somewhere and focus on this amazing story. I loved it. 5 stars
**Was given an ARC by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**
This book was a great story. I didn't know what to expect, but once I started reading, I couldn't put down my Kindle. The book takes place in Scotland, so understanding some of words/slang was a bit confusing at times.
The Savage sisters, Jane, Carly, and Rose lost their mother to cancer when they were just kids. Their father, Alec, stayed home to get them through their grief. Now Alec is living with early onset Parkinson's disease, his once healthy body, is now failing him. Jane, the oldest, went out and got a job to help support the bills. Carly stays with Alec during the day, taking care of him, then she works nights in a pub. Rose, the youngest, is finishing high school. They are doing everything they can to make sure he has everything he needs.
When Carly finds out that her ex-boyfriend is released from jail early from a stranger, she's hurt. Cole Alexander dumped her while he was in jail and it destroyed her. Now that Cole is out he wants Carly back. Jane begs Carly to move on from the past, so Carly does so for their family's sake. When Ross, Cole's big brother, comes to the house warning Carly to stay away from his brother, the girls ignore him. Then a brick gets thrown through their father's window and witnesses see it was Ross and his girlfriend.
Alec has Jane call his estranged brother, Eddie, for help. Eddie agrees to come down immediately, bringing his two sons, Dean and Harry. The brothers stopped talking because Alec couldn't keep supporting his brother alongside his own family. Now Eddie is happy to return the favor. He immediately pays the back rent and gives Jane the money he borrowed plus interest, so they have something in the bank. He buys the girls food and clothing, wanting to take care of them.
When the attacks escalate, the real story finally comes out into the open. Cole was just using Carly to get her Uncle and cousins to move to town, his beef was with them. Carly then realizes that the man Cole was before he went to prison is dead.
Now the girls need to make big decisions about their future. Stay on the straight and narrow or fight for what's theirs? Eddie wants the girls to join his new business venture. Jane, who ran a girl gang, decides it's time for her to take over the current leadership, because the current leader is Ross' girlfriend. And the gang is running his errands.
As a turf war breaks out, the Savage family all fight together for their family's future. Once a Savage, always a Savage.

Ia big fan of this author read all her books and as normal another addictive and gripping read. Alex savage. was a man who you would never disrespect, he loses his wife and has to look after his daughters Jane Carley and Rose. but then Alex gets ill and it's the girls looking after him. its a struggle for Jane and Carley but they do anything for their dad. Now Carley once had a boyfriend. Cole but he went to prison and then dumped her. Coles brother Ross hates Carley and threatens her as Cole is out and don't want them back together. Trouble is brewing and Alex has been in touch with his estranged brother Eddie. And he says he and his two boys. Will come stay with them. and these sisters are not someone who you mess with they are dangerous. It's a brilliant read I so can't wait for book two.
Savage Sisters is the first in the series of the same title and if you love books by Kimberley Chambers, Jessie Keane and Jacqui Rose, you are bound to love this book too.
The story follows Jane, Carly and Rose, three sisters living in Glasgow struggling to get by as they are looking after their father who is very ill. Being in an area run by a local family and a local girl gang called The Bitches life is not easy and when Carly's ex-boyfriend gets out of prison things take a turn for the worst,
Despite all of the obstacles thrown at them the Savage sisters stick together and surprise more than a few people. This was a great story full of angst, action and family relationships that will make your family feel like The Waltons no doubt! I highly recommend this book and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series already.
The start of a exciting and addictive gangland thriller series that you don't want to miss! There is not a single bad thing I could say about this book. I loved it from the first page to the last. The three Savage sister's haven't had it easy but they look after each other and stick together. Life is going to become more complicated for them with the Alexanders and Jane Savages old gang. One thing is certain you never mess with a Savage.I loved how the author created a tense atmosphere and you can't predict what will happen next. I actually really liked and admired the Savage sister's. It gets gritty and dark at times which made me cringe but I loved it. The best book of 2023 so far! I am now going to be impatiently waiting for the next book in this gripping series.
When one of the sisters Carly whose boyfriend Cole Alexander comes to the house after being released from prison, trouble follows. The sisters and their dad have a long dislike for the Alexanders and tempers are starting to fray.
The girl's dad, who was once a respected villain is now so weak he cannot look after his girls so his brother Eddie and two meaty sons Harry and Dean arrive to protect them all.
Set in Haghill Scotland this book has all of the grit of a gangland thriller and it twists and turns to keep you guessing what will come next.
Brute and violence are the name of the game with this book and if you're a true lover of gangland life this book is for you.
📖 Book - Savage Sisters ✍️ Author - Heather Atkinson 📕 Publisher - Boldwood Books 🗓 Publication Date - 18th May 2023
I have read many of Heathers books and I’m never disappointed!!
This book is the first in a new series and what a great start in the storyline. Sister Carly, Jane & Rose know how to look after themselves. When they have some trouble that starts to affect their dad (who has Parkinson’s). Their dad asks the girls to contact their estranged uncle, his brother and his 2 sons to come and help them out!
I love this author so I was looking forward to this new series and I wasn’t disappointed. After losing their Mum at a young age the Savage sisters were struggling to run the home and looking after their ill Dad. When Carly’s ex boyfriend is released from jail he and his family start causing trouble for the girls. Feeling helpless their Dad calls his brother Eddie for help. After a family rift will this bring the family back together or force them further apart. This is a full on gritty gangland thriller that had me gripped from page one. I look forward to seeing where this new series takes us.
Disclaimer: I was gifted a copy of this book via netgalley and in exchange I'm leaving an honest review. All opinions my own. Starting with what I liked: The pacing was easy to follow. The closeness of the Savages. Loyalty and the like. I like the main character Carly. I like the portrayal of the rivalry between the Alexanders and the Savages. And the fight scenes especially towards the end. I did not like the incest between her and Dean. It was Lowkey triggering bc why tf--they're cousins. Also the fact that no one cared about it was so weird??? Why??? Also I know it's set in haghill or whatever but the dialogue was kind of confusing. Reading accents is hard I guess.
This is the first book in a new gangland crime thriller based in Glasgow. The Savage Sisters, Carly, Rose and Jane live in Glasgow with their bedridden father. Trouble is brewing for them when the ex boyfriend of Carly. Cole Alexander is released from prison . Feeling fearful and knowing their father won’t be able to help as he is suffering from Parkinson’s they contact their Uncle Eddie who arrives with his two sons to protect the girls and their father. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it was a good fast paced read. I grew very fond of the Savage sisters as I progressed through the story and look forward to reading book 2.
Savage by name, savage by nature; A brutal, dangerous, edge of your seat gangland thriller which I just loved!
The main characters are extremely likeable, particularly Carly. I can't be the only one who found the family romance within the book particularly odd though?! Although I understand it fit in with the storyline and is not legally classed as incest in the UK, it made me cringe slightly.
An excellent book from Heather Atkinson and I'll be starting the follow up right away!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review 📖
Glaswegian gangland thriller, good story, fast paced, and likeable but brutal characters. Not particularly endeared by the first cousin love story, bit of an incestuous vibe for me. Felt this book set up well for a series for the Savage family leading on from the events at the end of this book. Loads of potential storyline’s for family. My first Heather Atkinson book but will defiantly read some more.
I chose 5 stars as again couldn't give more. The sisters in the book do everything for their failing father and look out for their younger sister whilst holding down full-time jobs. The family do their best for each other and are a bit put out when their uncle and cousins need to be contacted. This book for me was everything I have to love about Heather's and can't wait for the next installment of this great book.once again, hail the crime queen of Glasgow
I absolutely loved this, I used to visit Scotland twice a year as a child right up until I was 18 so to hear all the familiar scottish words was amazing. The story was brilliant and I loved getting to know the characters individually especially carly, Dean and Eddie. Oh and I also loved Derek I can't wait to start the next book now and see where the savages are headed in book 2
I like books by this author, set in gangland Glasgow. This one features the Savage sisters who are looking after their sick father. It's a thriller of a read with interesting characters, violence and family loyalty. Way over the top at times but still a very good read in the gangster genre and I do hope there is a follow up. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Oh my god people if you haven't read this, do so NOW!
Heather Atkinson is one of those authors who just does not disappoint. This book is AMAZING! It starts off good literally first couple of pages had me hooked. Around the middle it's great and by the end it's caught you by the throat and shaken you alive 😲 absolutely blows your socks off and if Heather continues on this track, we'll have another Dividing Line series happening.
Savage Sisters: The Start of a new gritty gangland series from Heather Atkinson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hiawatha first book .com a new series & if I'd anything like Heather Atkinson 's other series it will get better with every new book.I recommend this book & the next series to come. I look forward to them coming out
I enjoyed this book but found myself getting to like certain characters like Carly. After reading that ending I really now have to question if I read further books in this series. It was a fantastic read but a little unrealistic at times which is why its not 5 stars. I would however recommend this book to gangland fans! Heather gets better and better!
