CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

This was okay. I felt totally robbed of a decent ending, though. It seemed as if there was so much build up, and once they got this far, they decided they were bored with the whole thing and gave of some watered-down, wishy-washy thrown together at the last second ending just so they could be done with it. Seriously, the previous interactions between the other characters (Whenever Suichiro's "secret" was being discussed) didn't make any sense with the actual ending that was provided. It was cliché and bland. I was really disappointed. The artwork in this however is lovely.

This was ADORABLE!

I'm screaming on the inside, honestly. This was perfect, and my heart broke - I'm not going to lie, I teared up a little bit. The continuation of the story in this was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, I don't like the ending. I didn't like it at all. I thought that it could have been done a lot better and rounded off nicer, but it was still cute. Because I liked half of it and wasn't keen on half of it, I've given it three stars.

It's weird to say goodbye to this series. It's been a part of my life since January this year and I'm really emotional to say goodbye to it. Maybe I'll read this again.

Cute, sweet and emotional - what better for a manga series about angels?

While the artwork and dialogue were great, and there was only occasional profanity, when a character said that Christian theology about heaven and hell was "merely a bedtime story," and that reincarnation is true, it lost me. Glad this was the last volume.

This is the final volume in the Wish series. Once I got to the second, I just sped through this series. I loved the characters, the story and I just really wanted to know what would happen next.

I have to say, this volume really made me tear up. It's so sad sometimes, but also a really sweet manga series.

I enjoyed this series very much. Volume 4 is my favorite. I'd give it four and a half stars.

5 angelitos bien merecidos.

I had such high expectations for this series, but unfortunately they went down in flames.
The story did not made justice to the beautiful art.

I think this could easily be my favorite art style in a manga. The way everything is drawn is extacly how I like it. Tract is at the same time clear but gentle, very easy to recognize and full of details.
The atmosphere created was perfect for the story they wanted to tell.

But what fell flat for me was exactly the story.
It started off great, even if since the beginning I had that "childish" feeling around the plot.
Once fully got into the story, things kept going on weirder and weirder till I lost it.
I honestly wasn't enjoying this story anymore, it simply didn't make sense for me.

There were some parts I really liked tho, especially Hotaru's story.
What I didn't like was how the humans were mixed up with the non-humans.
I needed more heart for the story to really work out, because like this I just found multiple "love stories" thrown here and there in a comedy kinda way that wasn't making any sense...

Beautiful art for a pretty disappointing story that I really, really hoped to like it, considering it wasn't even an easy find for a good price nowadays on the market and that I always admired CLAMP's art.

Fin.

Review for when I re-read this series in 2014.

The last volume in this series. I am kind of sad it was this short.

Kohaku decides to do something she wants, she goes back to . You can't imagine how much I was cheering when I read that she must do it. Finally Kohaku does something non-angelic. Aww at the reaction when she landed in Shuichiro's arms. *Sigh* So romantic.

Sadly it is not all happiness, because of course there will be problems. One does not simple break the rules and go back to . Luckily there are enough lovely moments with lots of love between Shuichiro and Kohaku. Finally, if I might add. Took them long enough.

Also the whole thing with Hisui and her demon boyfriend is solved. It was really wonderful to have that solved finally, and too see it wasn't that bad of a punishment (if it would count as that). Now she can finally be together with her boyfriend.
I think Kohaku got worse punishment, poor thing. Though we find out why, and my is it heartbreaking. Still I think God could have chosen another punishment, or maybe had a word with her. Instead of this.

I loved Shuichiro's wish, it was beautiful, but I think a better time/place would have been better. Now it fell a bit flat.

And my, oh my, that ending. It was beautiful, sad but so beautiful. So happy for them!

In short, this would be a series I would recommend to everyone!

Wish #4/4
☆☆☆

Shuichiro

Well, I just finished reading the last volume of Wish, and though I can't say much, for fear of spoilers, it is going to take me some time to decide if I am totally appalled by the bizarre plot contrivances (particularly as they relate to communication) that lead into a manipulative final act, or thoroughly swept away by the sweet sincerity of the character relationships within that plot. For now, I'm torn, which is why I gave it three stars.

As a whole, I liked Wish much more than I disliked it. It's a sweet, calm story told steadily and with, as is the usual for Clamp, some lovely art. It bounces between being too sedate and sweet and too set on making readers sob on their Kindle screens, but beneath that is a good cast of characters, particularly in the support category, that carry this story through its worst scenes. I don't know that I can say I loved the series, but I will remember it, which is worth a lot.

I finally finished the series. I liked the plot line a lot, but I gave it 2 stars because it got a little overboard with the mixing of religions, and all. I was a little offended, and that brought my interest down and my gaurd up. Christianity and Buddihsm are the complete opposite of eachother.

Review for complete series

The young doctor Shuichiro rescues what turns out to be an angel who is now determined to repay him by granting a wish. But Shuichiro does not believe in having wishes granted, after all, he can look after himself. But the angel Kohaku is persistent and promptly decides to stick to Shuichiro's side until the debt is paid. It is not long, however, until Kohaku's presence attracts a series of other supernatural creatures.

Wish is one of CLAMP's more lighthearted series - in fact, even despite a couple of darker themes, it is fluffy and almost carefree throughout. Kohaku is a little clumsy and dense but perfectly likeable. Even the villains, such as the demon Koryuu are pretty likeable, there's no serious animosity between the angels and demons. If anything, they like to tease one another but can work together when it's required.

I wouldn't consider the art as one of CLAMP's best, but it is nonetheless a nicely drawn manga. This is really a manga you'd want to read for its characters and lighthearted atmosphere. There's a decent amount of suspense that keeps the reader going and the pacing is generally well handled. I only felt that the ending was either rushed or dragged - by that, I mean that Kohaku is meant to meet a character at the very end; personally, I think it would have been better if the manga had ended the moment these characters met or if a few chapters would have been dedicated to fleshing it out. Instead, we get a brief chapter that deals with the said meeting and it feels a bit like a half-baked cake.

While Wish is a nice manga in its own with only a few flaws that are easily ignored, there's quite a glaring issue that lies in translations from the Japanese original. The majority of the supernatural cast, such as Kohaku, is genderless. In Japanese, that is easily transmitted, but many European languages don't function without the male and female pronoun. As a result, several versions of this manga were moved to appoint the characters to a gender. True, they could have stuck to what is now used as they. But given that this is a relatively old manga, I can't fault publishers for not going with this rather new usage. So while I am not strictly against giving these characters a gender, I feel as though many of them have been mismatched - Kohaku being the biggest issue. Yes, Kohaku has feminine qualities, but no matter how you twist and turn it, Kohaku strikes me as a masculine character. If you compare his physical appearance with other CLAMP characters, you will notice that his body is much more in line with male characters than with the female ones.

LMAO OMG WHAT A SHIT ENDING!!!!!!! I'M ALMOST SPEECHLESS AT HOW LAZY AND SHITTY THIS WAS.

So here's the thing: shuichiro straight up DIES after he confesses to kohaku. that's why they couldn't be together, because shuichiro was on the "to die next" list. that is bad enough, but he dies from mysterious causes.

CLAMP couldn't even be bothered to give this man a proper death lmao

and what's WORSE: kohaku had to wait a 100 years for shuichiro's soul to be reincarnated. I have no problems with reincarnation stories (hell, one of my favorite manga ever HAS reincarnation as a big thing: inuyasha), WHEN DONE RIGHT. The way that this manga ends, the "new" shuichiro (who is also called shuichiro lol) randomly appears at his old self's house and kohaku awakens and is like "you finally came back!!! now we can live together forever!"

and new shuichiro is CONFUSED and kind of just... HAS to deal with that. THAT'S how it ends. Does no one have a little bit of sympathy for the guy?? I mean, from his point of view, an angel shows up and decides to be his partner forever and says that he loves him. And he just can't say "no"!!!! That's trippy.

I feel like if CLAMP had decided to go through the reincarnation route since the beginning, they should've planned better. They should've written more chapters, dealing with new shuichiro's new life adjusting to the whole "now you're in a relationship with an angel". They should've... I don't know, done something with this lazy ending lol

'Cause that's what this seems to me: a totally lazy ending to an otherwise nice story. CLAMP is capable of so much more, including sad endings, and this one was just... meh.

I'm actually quite sad that this series has come to an end! It was over before I knew it as I breezed through the final volume.

I will say, the ending was...not what I was expecting. At all. It was so sudden and surprisingly emotional that I was left staring numbly at the wall in front of me as I processed it. It was not a bad ending by any means, it just took me by surprise! At times like these, I wish that books had tags like fanfics did, so I could've prepared my heart for a 'bittersweet ending' tag! It was also somewhat left open-ended, so there's some interpretation left up to the reader as to how the future for Kohaku and Shuichiro plays out, but a lot of unanswered questions from previous volumes were answered.

Whilst writing the other volumes, I planned to say that I recommend this series for something light-hearted, which they were up until this final volume! Emotions were running high, tension was thick in the air, and I was on the edge of my seat devouring the pages in an attempt to find out what was going to happen next.

It was a good end to an entertaining series. All the characters we've met across the story came together in the final volume for Kohaku and Shuichiro; human, angel, and devil. It was angsty, sad, emotional, and heartfelt and left us with a sweet ending to this adorable couple. If you do plan to pick this up, however, make sure you have some tissues to hand for the final volume!

Insecurity. Sometimes I call it as insecute. She feels insecure that's why she is being cute wkwkwk.

Another value from this manga: takdir Tuhan pasti yang terbaik, meski awalnya terlihat tak enak.

This wrapped up at the speed of light! I remember sobbing over this story as a child and now I have no clue why, the "cliffhanger" of that one chapter is resolved almost immediately and then we speed along into the happy (weird) ending.

I think some of my dissatisfaction comes from the old and honestly pretty poor translation done by Tokyopop here. Some words are just omitted - there's a double spread page in Vol. 4 for Kokuyo says "Knock it".... did the translators just miss writing the word "off" ???? - and there's the whole gendering angels/demons thing which was not part of the original Japanese release anyway.

Overall 3/5. It was just ok. Book 2 & 3 were pretty good but the beginning is too slow/boring and the ending is too quick and Shuichiro's character is weird.

While I liked the art in this (the angels in chibi form were so adorable,) and the concept was interesting, like so many manga series I've read, the ending stumbles at the finish line for me. In this last book, a lot of the mysteries that arose during the course of the book were revealed, but the final resolution between our angel and her human fell flat for me and left them in a relationship that seemed unsustainable at best. Up to the epilogue, however, it's a cute series and worth a read.

This had some breathtaking moments and I loved how Kohaku and Suichiro’s relationship developed. Although, the end was too rushed!!! I liked the choices made by the authors but it could’ve been a little more slow, like showing Kohaku and Suichiro falling in love. Overall it was a good story, with a great charismatic cast.
