When Shuichiro rescues an angel he is granted a single wish. The problem? Shuichiro can’t think of any wishes that he couldn’t grant himself. Refusing to leave Shuichiro without granting a wish Kohaku, the angel, moves in with the young doctor to help out around the house and wait for a chance to return the favor. Of course, angels aren’t the only supernatural beings wandering the Earth. Soon, demons and archangels alike are stopping by Shuichiro’s house, making things difficult for his angelic roommate.
CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.
In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.
In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.
I'm short on time today, so, I'll just say this: The excellent production values and great story continue here. The only reason for a lower rating is a scene towards the end that appears to be an odd implication of sex.
Wish (Vol. 03) is a fantasy shoujo manga, concerning angels and demons.
About the Book
The main plot of this initial series is that an angel is saved by a human, who then grants the human one wish. The problem is, the human has no wish he desires; this causes the angel to stick around.
Within this volume, we get to see our angel, Kohaku, and our human, Shuichiro, beginning to bond even more than they already have; going on outings and spending time with each other, and we even get to see Shuichiro showing care and concern for Kohaku.
Of course our resident tiny demon steps in and creates more angst than what I would personally like, but it evolves into such a beautiful story, introducing us to even more amazing characters.
Why did I choose this book to read?
I chose to read this book as I have already read volumes 1 and 2 of the manga before, and I chose to read the manga series itself as it was written by CLAMP, who are solid favourite manga writers of mine.
Pricing
I read this online at MangaFox (I know, I’m terrible, but I am Poor.)
What did I think of it?
I think this was a well written volume of Wish. I really loved the developments with the characters that we know already, and I think the new characters introduced were enjoyable. There was quite a lot of angst in this volume, a lot that hurt my heart, but I found it enjoyable and well written.
Did I have any qualms with it?
My only qualm is that this volume seems to move very quickly on the time frame. It’s merely mentioned that two weeks have passed and it was a little disconcerting to have to stop and try and think about which parts of what you’ve already read has been past the two week time frame. It would have been nice to have more clarification on this time switch.
Would I recommend it and who to?
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys angel and demon manga, or shoujo manga or both.
Overall opinion
I think this was a brilliant continuation of the Wish manga and I found it very enjoyable. My heart broke so many times during this volume, and I can’t actually wait to find out more in the last volume of this series.

The young doctor Shuichiro rescues what turns out to be an angel who is now determined to repay him by granting a wish. But Shuichiro does not believe in having wishes granted, after all, he can look after himself. But the angel Kohaku is persistent and promptly decides to stick to Shuichiro's side until the debt is paid. It is not long, however, until Kohaku's presence attracts a series of other supernatural creatures.
Wish is one of CLAMP's more lighthearted series - in fact, even despite a couple of darker themes, it is fluffy and almost carefree throughout. Kohaku is a little clumsy and dense but perfectly likeable. Even the villains, such as the demon Koryuu are pretty likeable, there's no serious animosity between the angels and demons. If anything, they like to tease one another but can work together when it's required.
I wouldn't consider the art as one of CLAMP's best, but it is nonetheless a nicely drawn manga. This is really a manga you'd want to read for its characters and lighthearted atmosphere. There's a decent amount of suspense that keeps the reader going and the pacing is generally well handled. I only felt that the ending was either rushed or dragged - by that, I mean that Kohaku is meant to meet a character at the very end; personally, I think it would have been better if the manga had ended the moment these characters met or if a few chapters would have been dedicated to fleshing it out. Instead, we get a brief chapter that deals with the said meeting and it feels a bit like a half-baked cake.
While Wish is a nice manga in its own with only a few flaws that are easily ignored, there's quite a glaring issue that lies in translations from the Japanese original. The majority of the supernatural cast, such as Kohaku, is genderless. In Japanese, that is easily transmitted, but many European languages don't function without the male and female pronoun. As a result, several versions of this manga were moved to appoint the characters to a gender. True, they could have stuck to what is now used as they. But given that this is a relatively old manga, I can't fault publishers for not going with this rather new usage. So while I am not strictly against giving these characters a gender, I feel as though many of them have been mismatched - Kohaku being the biggest issue. Yes, Kohaku has feminine qualities, but no matter how you twist and turn it, Kohaku strikes me as a masculine character. If you compare his physical appearance with other CLAMP characters, you will notice that his body is much more in line with male characters than with the female ones.
First off, I just want to say, I need a volume purely on Hisui and Kokuyo's romance! This volume explores their love story a little more. It gives us a peek into how they got together, and what the pair sacrificed for one another before making a life together on Earth. But their relationship doesn't just affect them. Trouble is brewing between Heaven and Hell, and there's talk of war because of their forbidden relationship. Things are getting tense and I love it!
Also, quick side note, I realised that in previous volumes' reviews I've gendered the characters as male, when they're actually non-binary/androgenous, so I've gone back and changed them. Apologies!
Angst is growing this volume as people figure out their feelings. Kohaku and Shuichiro are separated, and in their time apart they begin to realise what the other meant to them. The romance element of this series is creeping in, and I'm very excited for how the final volume will handle it. During their separation, although it's a sad occasion, we get to see Heaven for the first time and meet some of the other angels and what they get up to. We learn what Kohaku's role in Heaven is, and it seems that although they love their work, they also miss their time on Earth. And Shuichiro is beginning to realise that life is empty without Kohaku. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, after all!
The only issue I have with this story is the art style. I think it's gorgeous, but the characters look so similar to one another. Angels look alike, devils look alike, and even some of the humans do. It makes me do a double take at times, making me think that a certain character has appeared but it's just a one-off character. And I know one pair of characters are deliberately meant to look alike (Shuichiro and Kokuyo, I'm looking at you both! I need to know the secret Kokuyo knows about Shuichiro!) but when there are multiple characters in a scene who all look alike, it's difficult to tell them apart. I mean, their faces are so similar, as are their hairstyles. I also understand that angels have blond hair and devils have black, but it'd be helpful if there was some variation.
Overall, I'm quite enjoying this series, and I'm sad that it's coming to an end with the fourth and final volume! I'm excited to see how this romance ends.
Finalmente alguma coisa acontece além do dia a dia das personagens, nesse volume temos gente sofrendo, novas personagens e o passado do casalzinho lá.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
E qual será a do Shuichiro, o que ele é?
Khas shoujo manga.
