Wish, Vol. 02
When Shuichiro rescues an angel he is granted a single wish. The problem? Shuichiro can’t think of any wishes that he couldn’t grant himself. Refusing to leave Shuichiro without granting a wish Kohaku, the angel, moves in with the young doctor to help out around the house and wait for a chance to return the favor. Of course, angels aren’t the only supernatural beings wandering the Earth. Soon, demons and archangels alike are stopping by Shuichiro’s house, making things difficult for his angelic roommate.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.
In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

In this volume, we get to know Shuichiro's mother (well, not his biological mother it seems). Her name is Hotaru, and she's not human (what!!). She's like a doll (supposed to be super-lovely) but I don't know why I can't get myself to fancy her.
I want to say that I feel sorry for Shuichiro because his house is "invaded" by 2 angels and 4 demons, but on second thought, he's been living alone, so their company maybe a good thing.

This volume of Wish was unbelievably cute! I caught myself awwing out loud quite a few times.
I feel like the plot of the manga comes back to the angel seeing himself as a burden a lot. It's not wonderful, and the plot seems to change quite a lot - there doesn't seem to be a set thing and the whole "I have to wait for the human to make a wish" seems to have vanished from this volume, but it's still enjoyable none the less.
It's a slice of life, really, more a few days in the lives of those living with the human and the demon and the angel getting up to all kinds of tricks. I wish they would focus a little more on the story behind the heir of Hell and the Fallen Angel. It seems like an interesting story and I would love to see more on that rather than it be more of a background thing. The twins, I find highly annoying.
The characters have some depth, but still seem quite two dimensional. They're not that relatable, and it's slightly upsetting. The manga has beautiful artwork and it could really be completed with some more in depth characters, but for now, we'll have to see how it goes.

Jatuh cinta pelan-pelan. Kadang kita enggak nyadar kalau sudah jatuh cinta sama seseorang karena saking sudah terbiasanya kita dengan keberadaan dan kebaikan-kebaikan orang itu. Hal yang sama kurang lebih terjadi pada Kohaku si Malaikat Polos.
Dalam volume dua ini, kita akan diperkenalkan dengan kakek Shuichirou yang bernama Shinichirou. Kakek ceria yang baru datang dari Kanada ini langsung memeluk Kohaku di awal kedatangannya karena mengira Kohaku itu Shuichirou. Yha, dasar manga Jepang. Guyonan gaya clueless ini tampaknya khas manga klasik CLAMP. Didatangi kakeknya dari jauh begitu, Shuichirou tetap cuek dan mengikuti jadwal kesehariannya sebagai dokter bedah yang sangat padat. Alhasil, Kohakulah yang menawarkan diri untuk menemani sang kakek berjalan-jalan.
Dari cerita Shinichirou, Kohaku mengetahui soal hilangnya ibu Shuichirou 13 tahun di taman tempat sebuah pohon fuij besar berdiri. Karena penasaran, Kohaku pun nekat menggunakan kekuatan hogan dan menggabungkannya dengan kekuatan hogan Kouryuu Si Iblis Jahil agar bisa menembus waktu dan melihat apa yang sebenarnya terjadi pada ibu Shuichirou di masa lalu. Di sana, mereka berdua dikejutkan kenyataan bahwa ibu Shuichirou adalah gadis muda bermata ungu yang tampangnya bahkan terlihat jauh lebih muda daripada Shuichirou. Yang lebih mengejutkan lagi, ia bisa mendeteksi keberadaan Kohaku dan Kouryuu! Padahal, seharusnya makhluk dari masa lalu tak bisa menyadari kehadiran mereka. Ibu Shuichirou itu memperkenalkan dirinya sebagai "Hotaru".
"Hei bahaya! Jangan mendekat seenaknya!"
"Tapi... dia begitu cantik dan murah senyum... Menurutku dia bukan orang jahat."
"Padahal, aku mirip sekali dengan malaikat yang murah senyum. Tapi kau tahu kan aku ini iblis?"

Lucu juga sih melihat bagaimana Kouryuu berusaha memperingatkan Kohaku yang polosnya kebangetan untuk berhati-hati pada ibu Shuichirou yang auranya misterius. Bagaimana pun Kouryuu itu kan iblis! Di sini mulai diperlihatkan sedikit indikasi adanya perhatian Kouryuu pada Kohaku. Haha....
Dari adegan antara Shuichirou yang masih SMA dengan Hotaru, kita akan memahami alasan mengapa Shuichirou begitu dingin terhadap lawan jenis, bahkan pada malaikat yang imut seperti Kohaku. Latar belakang keluarga Shuichirou di sini tampaknya tak bisa dibilang sederhana. Terutama hubungannya dengan sang ayah dan dengan Hotaru yang rupanya bukan ibu kandungnya. Namun, informasi lengkap soal keluarga Shuichirou benar-benar dibiarkan tersaput kabut hingga akhir serial ini. Ugh. Padahal, aku penasaran bagaimana ayah Shuichirou mendidik anaknya sampai bisa jadi sedingin itu. Sifatnya sungguh 180 derajat perbedaannya dengan Shinichirou yang hangat, ceria, dan cenderung selengekan.
Setelah mengetahui misteri di balik kepergian Hotaru, Kohaku malah dikerjain Kouryuu dan jadi terjebak di masa lalu. Sang malaikat pun menangis sedih saat membayangkan dirinya tak bisa bertemu dengan Shuichirou hingga 13 tahun mendatang. Namun, saat itu... terjadilah keajaiban.
Episode ini membuatku menyangsikan pernyataan di volume-volume mendatang bahwa Kouryuu sebenarnya menyukai Kohaku dan karena itu jadi terus ingin menjahilinya. Karena guyonan Kouryuu kali ini benar-benar berbahaya. Meninggalkan rekanmu di masa lalu tanpa ada jalan pulang, jelas bukan cara bercanda yang biasa, kan.
Meski begitu, Kouryuu tetap memberikan pesan yang bijak bagi kita semua:
"Lihat! Seperti kataku, kan! Belum tentu dia orang baik-baik hanya karena memiliki senyum yang manis!" (Kouryuu kepada Kohaku, setelah jati diri Hotaru yang tak terduga itu terungkap, halaman 102)

Saat Kohaku menangis karena tidak bisa pulang, Hotaru menyapanya lagi. Bertanya mengapa Kohaku menangis. Sang malaikat menjawab itu karena dia tak bisa bertemu lagi dengan Shuichirou yang baik hati dan sudah banyak menolongnya.
Hotaru lalu mengajukan pertanyaan yang menghentak kesadaran Kohaku, "Tapi, orang yang baik bukan hanya Shuichirou, kan?"
Ini persis seperti kata-kata yang sering kuucapkan, "Ada banyak orang baik yang kita temui di hidup kita. Tapi tak semua orang baik itu bisa kita nikahi. kan?"
Wahahaha... begitulah. Perasaan cinta, nyaman, aman, dan kecocokan, tampaknya memang misteri. Temanku pernah mengatakan sesuatu yang kalau enggak salah disebut dengan Yes Perception. Jadi, katanya, ketika kita jatuh cinta pada seseorang, ya sebenarnya kita jatuh cinta begitu saja. Begitu kita ditanya apa alasannya, barulah kita menggali-gali banyak hal untuk menjustifikasi perasaan suka kita pada orang itu. Wah....

Cerita pendek "Sahabat Baru" di akhir volume ini adalah bagian yang paling menggelikan buatku. Pasalnya, dalam cerita ini, Kohaku bertemu dengan Sango, kucing pemalas berkepribadian ganda yang saat malam matanya berubah jadi warna emas dan sifatnya jadi buas. Dalam mode-malam, kucing ini suka menyerang dan menggigit Shuichirou karena...
...ada yang dia inginkan dari Kohaku.
Ahahahaha, baca sendiri aja, deh. Uaneh banget pokoknya. Bisa-bisanya CLAMP kepikiran ide absurd buat episode filler seperti ini.

Ya veo que todo va a ser apresurado en este manga, y no necesariamente explicado por completo.
Me gustó la historia de la madre de Suichiro, por más que me parece que ya cerraron ese tema y van a dejar las dudas ahí.
Y no voy a decir nada sobre cómo Kohaku ama la naturaleza y la vida pero no tiene problema en comprar cigarrillos.

The second volume of Wish has Shuichiro's grandfather come to visit from Canada. He reveals that Shuichiro's mother disappeared and so Kohaku and mischievous demon Koryu time travel back 13 years to find out what happened.

Cuando el malo te cae bien, y el bueno es tan serio y tierno a la vez. Y todo es TAN Kawaii... Me está gustando, pero sigo sin entender cómo y por qué los capítulos son tan cortos.
Por otro lado me encanta ver los detalles que pusieron en Kobato, tomados de este manga.

Review for complete series
The young doctor Shuichiro rescues what turns out to be an angel who is now determined to repay him by granting a wish. But Shuichiro does not believe in having wishes granted, after all, he can look after himself. But the angel Kohaku is persistent and promptly decides to stick to Shuichiro's side until the debt is paid. It is not long, however, until Kohaku's presence attracts a series of other supernatural creatures.
Wish is one of CLAMP's more lighthearted series - in fact, even despite a couple of darker themes, it is fluffy and almost carefree throughout. Kohaku is a little clumsy and dense but perfectly likeable. Even the villains, such as the demon Koryuu are pretty likeable, there's no serious animosity between the angels and demons. If anything, they like to tease one another but can work together when it's required.
I wouldn't consider the art as one of CLAMP's best, but it is nonetheless a nicely drawn manga. This is really a manga you'd want to read for its characters and lighthearted atmosphere. There's a decent amount of suspense that keeps the reader going and the pacing is generally well handled. I only felt that the ending was either rushed or dragged - by that, I mean that Kohaku is meant to meet a character at the very end; personally, I think it would have been better if the manga had ended the moment these characters met or if a few chapters would have been dedicated to fleshing it out. Instead, we get a brief chapter that deals with the said meeting and it feels a bit like a half-baked cake.
While Wish is a nice manga in its own with only a few flaws that are easily ignored, there's quite a glaring issue that lies in translations from the Japanese original. The majority of the supernatural cast, such as Kohaku, is genderless. In Japanese, that is easily transmitted, but many European languages don't function without the male and female pronoun. As a result, several versions of this manga were moved to appoint the characters to a gender. True, they could have stuck to what is now used as they. But given that this is a relatively old manga, I can't fault publishers for not going with this rather new usage. So while I am not strictly against giving these characters a gender, I feel as though many of them have been mismatched - Kohaku being the biggest issue. Yes, Kohaku has feminine qualities, but no matter how you twist and turn it, Kohaku strikes me as a masculine character. If you compare his physical appearance with other CLAMP characters, you will notice that his body is much more in line with male characters than with the female ones.

Zwar hat der kleine Engel Kohaku den Windengel Hisui endlich ausfindig machen können, doch diese weigert sich wieder mit in das Himmelsreich zu kommen. Aus Liebe zu dem Dämonenfürsten Kokuyo hat diese ihr Dasein als Engel aufgegeben und möchte nun mit Kokuyo auf der Erde leben. Da Shuichiro Mitleid mit Kohaku hat, bietet er ihr und den anderen an, dass sie für eine Weile bei ihm unterkommen können. Vor allem da Kohaku scheinbar nicht das einzige nichtmenschliche Wesen ist, dem er begegnet ist. Außerdem interessiert mich brennend, was es denn mit Shuichiro nun richtig auf sich hat, denn dem Dämonenfürsten Kokuyo scheint irgendetwas an seinem neuen Gastgeber aufzufallen. Ob Shuichiro auch dämonischen Ursprungs ist? Interessant wäre diese Theorie jedenfalls.
CLAMP begeistert auch in diesem Band mit seinen wundervollen Zeichnungen. Sie sind wie immer detailliert und die Charakterdesigns sehr zahlreich und breit gefächert. Neben spannenden und wunderschönen Szenen gibt es auch jede Menge humorvolle Passagen, besonders dann, wenn sich die Zeichnerinnen mit ihren superniedlichen Chibis austoben. Die Story an sich ist leicht verständlich und man kann dem Verlauf sehr gut folgen. Die Szenen sind gut aufeinander abgestimmt und in sich stimmig.
Empfehlen möchte ich den vierteiligen Manga all jenen, die Mangas in Kombination mit Liebesgeschichten mögen. Der Klassiker gehört eigentlich in jedes Regal von weiblichen Manga-Fans, weil er so zuckersüß ist, dass man beim Lesen einfach nur begeistert vor sich daher quieken kann. Clamp begeistert durch wunderschöne Zeichnungen, eine spannende und süße Storyline, aber vor allem durch fundiertes Hintergrundwissen zu Engeln und Dämonen. Es macht einfach Spaß!

Reading Wish after seeing Kohaku's cameos in other CLAMP works is a bit of a trip, to be honest. It's causing me to be retroactively impressed by series I've already finished, and filling up plot holes along the way. This just goes to show you how convoluted and lore-heavy CLAMP's books really are, you have to read a bunch of their serials before you can truly understand any one of them by themselves. Which is a lot to ask of a casual reader. But you already know that if you've spoken to even one CLAMP fan.
This volume fleshes out Shuichiro's backstory, as well as hint at a pseudo-incestuous relationship with his mother. I'm hoping against hope that this is a translation error, since X/1999 had a similar problem when it was localized, but it's CLAMP, so who can really tell.
I'm finding that my favorite parts of this manga are when the focus is on domestic life. Sure, having a split-personality cat propose to Kohaku is entertaining, but so is watching the Son of Satan and a High Angel prepare dinner and talk about their relationship. CLAMP is at their best when they're focusing on the connections and emotions shared between characters, and this is no exception.
I think my only real problem with Wish, besides the afore-mentioned translation error (fingers crossed), would be its predictability. Very few of the "plot twists" are actually that surprising once you get a grasp of the characters, and it's incredibly easy to figure out how a subplot will resolve. Coming off of Kobato. and Tsubasa, two of CLAMP's later works that were way better at foreshadowing big events, Wish is lackluster in its delivery.
Obviously I'll keep reading since I've resigned myself to going through CLAMP's catalogue, but I don't know if I'll count Wish as my favorite series. The only thing it really has going for it is a large cast of gender-neutral characters, but that doesn't necessarily save a plot that is starting to meander. Here's hoping CLAMP pulls one of their famous surprise endings...

I'm quite enjoying this series! It's a very sweet and light-hearted page-turner of a story.
In this volume, we dive deeper into Shuichiro's past and his family, which was surprisingly mystical and interesting to learn about! More of the world and magical beings are expanded upon too, as well as magical abilities such as time travel.
There are a lot of amusing angel vs devil interactions in this volume. The hilarious antics of two rival species being stuck under one roof, and the poor human caught in the middle of it all, is very fun to read. The sneaky, mischievous demon teasing the innocent and bubbly angel never gets old.
I adore the characters in this world. They're all so entertaining and intriguing. A fallen angel, a banished demon, a guarded human, an innocent, child-like angel, and a cheeky demon are such entertaining characters to read. I'm also growing more attached to both Shuichiro and Kohaku and their developing romance. I love that it's a slow burn, gradually growing their feelings towards one another, although at the moment the feelings seem to only be coming from Kohaku's side, though I'm not sure they fully understand them. But I may only be getting that picture because we don't see much from Shuichiro's point of view. We mostly see things from Kohaku's point of view. Perhaps that will change in future volumes.
Overall, a good read. I'm half-way through my chunky omnibus containing all four volumes of this series, so I'm going to dive straight into volume 3.

(2019 reread) all kinds of drama going on here - Kokuyo and Hisui can't keep their hands off each other, while Koryu is just up to all kinds of trouble (let's take Kohaku back into the past and leave her there - all in a day's work, right?). Shuichiro has one hell of a family history, and his grandfather's visit only makes Kohaku more curious as to how she can learn more about him so she can give him his wish. Kohaku's singing made me think of Kobato (of course). in a world where cats fall in love with angels (and bite those who interfere with his plans to make her his bride), the son of Satan and an angel have a very (ahem) intense physical relationship, and an angel loses the money she needs to buy cigarettes for the man she is falling for hard (only here, people) - oh, and someone's mom is actually a wisteria fairy . . . it could only be CLAMP.

Magia, deseos (xxxHolic), viajes en el tiempo y seres que se "convierten" en humanos.
Plus: conecta mucho las ideas de otras historias. Por qué la mamá de Sakura puede visitarles como ángeles, aun cuando al principio solo Toya podía verla? porque los ángeles pueden viajar en el tiempo y ya no necesariamente viven en el "ahora".
Plus: se demuestra que ni los ángeles se atreven a viajar en el tiempo, o las dimensiones. Y solo alguien tan fuerte como Clow, Yuko o Kaito lo hacen con resultados alentadores.
De la historia está medio cursi pero prefiero mucho más ésto que la misma historia de salvar a un reino del hechicero que capturó a la princesa y todo eso.

Mais um da série concluído, e nesse volume conhecemos um pouco mais sobre o passado do Shuichirou, achei bem interessante e passei a entender melhor a personalidade dele. Me parece que o Kohaku está mais percebendo que gosta do Shuichirou e eles se aproximaram mais, tudo é muito fofo, gostei demais. Senti que o há vários segredos sobre a real importância do Kohaku e espero ver mais detalhes no próximo volume. A leitura continua sendo muito divertida e engraçada, adoro as notas e pequenos comentários que tem de vez em quando, principalmente dos passarinhos, acho muito legal.

gostei tanto quanto o primeiro, os personagens só crescem em mim, principalmente o Kohaku que dá vontade de dar um soco de tão fofo que ele é, só ficou meio estranho a relação do Shuichiro com a pessoa que era pra ser a mãe dele então li essa parte com desconfiança, mas tirando esse detalhe continua sendo uma historia fofa, espero que no próximo volume mostre mais do Shuichiro e dos sentimentos dele, pra não ficar parecendo tanto uma porta.

Kohaku e Kouryu agem juntos para descobrir mais a respeito de Shuichiro. Mas uma aliança com um demônio não é exatamente a coisa mais segura a se fazer (né Kohaku?). Juntos eles fazem uma descoberta surpreendente.

Sometimes conversations would end so abruptly that I thought I had skipped a page. But then I realized it was a clunky way to build the suspense for the plot twists. And what a cool plot twist it was! Still very cute and funny. It gives me all the warm and fuzzies.
