I got this 5-book series by Colleen Coble for a dollar or two on Kindle, and thought it might be similar to my favorite Dee Henderson novels. It had the crime and suspense, but I was disappointed in the “spiritual” aspects. In the first book, a major character gets saved; but after that, the only Christian influence was a few mentions of prayer and an occasional discussion about faith or forgiveness — unlike Dee Henderson’s books, where character wrestle with very real spiritual struggles throughout the whole story. Additionally, after the first two books, the events started getting weirder and more unrealistic, and most of the characters didn’t continue to develop in a believable manner. I don’t mind that in science fiction, but I prefer my mysteries to be believable and the characters to feel real. I give the author props for creativity and a good writing style, but this is not a series I’d generally recommend.
I loved this series getting to know the Nichols family. Bree was a courageous young woman who went through so many trials. She was quite an investigator. Her sidekick Samson the famous search and rescue dog made quite a team. She regained her faith in God welcomed all the Blessings bestowed upon her and her family.
As each of these Rock Harbor stories unfolded, I found myself picturing the snow and ice so foreign to my neck of the woods and shivering on the inside. Too bad it was only imaginary chill as I sweat in the 100 degree temps down here in South Texas! I enjoyed the opportunity to imagine what living and working in the UP might be like, so different from this hot, arid climate where A.C. is a must 3/4ths if the Year. Colleen is a great suspenseful story teller who kept me on the edge of my seat through this sequel series. I fell in love with Bree' s brave dog and strong mother -in-law, Anu. I might have to look up the recipe for pulla! Thank you Colleen, for drawing me into one if your inspiring heroine's adventures once again! I enjoyed this series immensly!
I have read all 5 of the Rock Harbor series. I love them all. I love Bree and Samson. It makes me want to have a rescue dog. You can read the author's words and descriptions of the area in the Upper Pennisula and you feel as cold as they are in the snow. I love the author for that fact. You feel like you are really there.
The story lines are good in that you never know what is going to happen next. There is always an interesting turn in the story.
I love Samson and hearing her talk about the rescue dogs and how they work. It is a series well worth reading. I have just started the Aloha Reef series. Can't wait to see what is in store in Hawaii.
This was a good series. Although they were understandable as individual stand alone books. There were a variety of subjects in addition to the search and rescue, to keep it interesting--animal conservation, Finnish culture, autism--to name a few. Parts were predictable, and parts were ridiculous (spoiler)...undiagnosed twins, but Bree deserved her happy ending, right!?
The characters in these books are so interesting and engaging. I love Colleen's ways of interweaving moral messages throughout all her books. These books genuinely help you search your own mind and heart for expeiences in your own life where you need to evaluate your own character. I loved this series and can't wait to start another saga of Colleen Coble's characters.
Bree Nichols and her search and rescue dog, Sampson take us on quite a journey. From searching for her own son, Davey, who is lost due to a plane crash that took the life of her husband, Rob to finding true love with Park Ranger Kade Matthews. Colleen Coble has put together a series of whodunits that keep you coming back for more. I couldn't get enough!
When this whole series popped up on sale on my OHFB email, I had to grab it. I am pretty sure I read at least parts of it years and years ago. It was fun reading it all as one continuous story. I love Colleen’s writing and the characters in this series are just fun to follow and watch grow!
This whole series was fantastic. So great to have them all out (and in an omnibus!), so I could keep reading back to back!
I kept thinking each book I was reading at the time was my favorite...I don’t think I could pick one, they were all that good. Whatever will I read next?!
As always, Colleen Coble delivered intense, romantic, edge of your seat adventures in this Rock Harbor collection. Water seemed to be leaking from my eyes at the very end of these wonderful books but I enjoyed every minute of these heartwarming friends!
I read a series of all the books I loved reading all of them. I didn't like the dog fighting part and Sam Bri g mistreated. Also not sure I liked so much talking about God in all the books. But the stories were so wonderful in following the stories thru the books of all the characters. Read these books you will like them.
I heard about these stories from my friend, who suggested I read them. Once I started I couldn't stop, I read them back to back. Riveting storylines with an unexpected turnout each time. I can't wait to start the next one. Very well written.
Love the book. I purchased it for my kindle several weeks ago and never was able to find time to read. If only I had know what I was missing. Fell in love with Rock Harbour!
A nice collection of romantic suspense novels. They are solid mysteries without all the long descriptive sex scenes so many books have these days. You’ll find the characters interesting and the plots complex.
Seriously. So. Many. From main character introductions all the way to the ending novella, the mysteries, suspense, and romance of it all will keep you turning the page. Oh, and I now need to visit the UP.
This was an amazing series! I've always been fascinated with Search and Rescue dogs. Every book was interesting and I enjoyed the continuing stories. The last book surprised me though.
Great story teller. Enjoyed each one. Fell in love with characters. Sad that it ended. The excerpt from the next of her series looks great ... going to get started on Hope Beach next.
As always, Coble's mysteries have lots of twists and turns that keep me reading on to try to figure it all out. I loved Bree and felt for her loses and admired her strength. The stories are a bit difficult for me to follow as transitions from one character to another or one situation to another aren't always clear to me. I'm spite of that, I enjoyed this series.
A great series that provides plenty of suspense, mystery, romance and underlying importance of family and keeping lines if communication open. Each book is reviewed individually , but I recommend this series. I would read them in the order written as they do build upon each other and the background from the prior story helps with understanding the bigger picture.
Absolutely terrible. I only managed to get through the first two (barely) before abandoning the series. Juvenile, shallow writing with no character development. I couldn't care less about any of the characters. I really liked Coble's Lonestar series, but this series was completely different and I won't continue to waste my reading time.
Five connected stories about Bree, the mother of 4-year old Davy, and whose husband was killed in an airplane crash a year ago. Bree, along with her dog, Samson, is a trained rescue hunter, and many rescue episodes are included. Set in fictional town on Rock Harbor, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, not far from Houghton/Hancock and on the shore of Lake Superior. Many snow and ice scenes.
