I'm the author of The Administration Series, a near-future SF dystopia published by Casperian Books. You can find the series in paperback, e-book, or (partly) on line at the Mannazone website.
I've been writing original slash since 2002 — or homoerotic fiction, m/m romance, yaoi, as you prefer. Original slash is my personal term of choice because I feel it best represents my writing in terms of style and what readers can expect to find there. Individual stories may or may nor be sexually explicit.
I liked Warrick and Toreth pretty much from the get go. But Friday….Friday, Friday is my favorite day of the week now. The day I fell in love with Warrick.
One of my many weaknesses is listening to stories about dates, attractions, and loved ones. I adore watching someone fall in love. Listening to the descriptions, highs & lows, gushing, and gossip. But my favorite part is actually meeting said person after all the talk….hehe…the “That’s him or her” moment. :D The fun, quirky, mystery of attraction never ceases to amaze me. We all like, love, want, and need in our own individual ways, skins, and hearts. And they all make such great fucking stories!
“Fear. The touch of fear he sometimes felt with Toreth, the knowledge of what he was: dangerous, ultimately uncontrollable and addictively good at fucking. At giving Warrick what he needed. A slightly unhealthy attraction, possibly, but the danger was undeniably and desperately arousing.”
Hearing Warrick talk about Toreth with such clear cut honesty and acceptance filled these pages with so much fun for me. We are watching him fall—even if he doesn’t see it. I love it! Isn’t it amazing that the people around us see it first? See the glow, happiness, and love before we do. And believe me Warrick is glowing here.
Glowing, happy, and baking!
Off for some pancakes…..
Re-read 9/2/2022:
Happy Friday!
This quick visit is all Warrick’s POV and I savored every word this time around.
The idea of Warrick daydreaming about his Friday nights with Toreth makes me smile. I mean he’s at work! Haha…. That right there says so much. Keir Warrick is not a man to get distracted at work. Until Toreth. And to hear Warrick try to describe Toreth to Cele is just hilarious. This description of Toreth’s aura (Asher’s description) really hit home for me.
“Like he wasn’t using extreme violence right that second, but the situation could easily change the moment you pissed him off.”
I love it! I’m waiting, preparing, and looking forward to the game just as much as Warrick.
RE-READ 2020 It's actually quite comical looking back at my initial reactions. Because now I know there's nothing to worry about. Warrick knew exactly what he's doing....well, kinda. He didn't expect to fall in love, did he?
Warrick oh Warrick...I worry about you. Allow me to help you see the light... RUN...WARRICK RUN... He's insane and yes you should fear admitting his existence in your life.. Cele is fantastic...love her.. "I've put my second lesbian phase on hold and I'm having a celibate year." "Hey, far be it from me to get in the way of the kink-a-thon"... that says it all about her...hilarious... well, let's see what these two crazy cats are up to next...
3.5 stars...(<-see what I did there? I threw in the extra 1/2 star...it's growing on me!)
I liked Friday because 1) there was no Toreth (at least not directly) and 2) Cele is kind of a cool chick...I like her, and 3) I'm intrigued about this Mel guy who made Warrick into Betty-Crocker-bake-aholic. Do we get to know more about him later?
"A lover he wanted to keep away from everyone he knew. A man who smiled while he hit him. A murderer. What the hell am I doing with him?"
Fear. The touch of fear he sometimes felt with Toreth, the knowledge of what he was: dangerous, ultimately uncontrollable and addictively good at fucking. At giving Warrick what he needed. A slightly unhealthy attraction, possibly, but the danger was undeniably and desperately arousing.
Friday is nothing special. Warrick is only talking about Toreth. In fact, it's the first time he's talking about Toreth in detail to anyone. We're introduced to Cele. I like you, Cele!
"So, what's he like?" "Well…tall. Short blond hair. Blue eyes. Attractive." Feeling the description was rather too physical, he added, "Intelligent." Personality disordered. "Well endowed?" she asked cheerfully. "Good in bed? Go on - skip to the important stuff." Somehow he managed to keep his expression deadpan. "I have no complaints." <…> "Good." She brushed off her hands. "Job done. Okay, I'm a happy camper now. So, when do I get to meet this kinky stud?"
I've read Friday because it's important that you read the whole series in order. That's quite a performance since I read out of order all the time. *wipes eyebrows*
Another short, this time from Warrick's POV, which gives a nice refection of his dynamics with family and friends (and a fun friend Cele is!). And a great insight about how he perceives his fling with Toreth. Come on Warick, who are you kidding? Fun little story, 3,5 stars.
Side note: why do the asshole boyfriends have to be named Mel? First Adrien, now Warrick. There are nice Mels in the world too!
Warricks friend Cele arrives at Simtech for a meeting! When she sees the bruises... she wants all the details on the new man in his life and his kink!!
Cele finally gets the details of Warrick's relationship with Val Toreth. But before their conversation you get Warrick's own musings on the topic. An okay detail to a developing story.
Oh, hey, will you look at that. Warrick POV! Warrick info! Warrick present and a hint of Warrick past! And an honestly cool female friend. Interrresting.
Just a continuing chapter, really. Warrick wants to keep his thing with Toreth secret. But that's rather difficult when there's noticeable bruising...
"The touch of fear he sometimes felt with Toreth, the knowledge of what he was: dangerous, ultimately uncontrollable and addictively good at fucking. At giving Warrick what he needed."
Glossary of Characters, Agencies, Cases, Etc. in Quid Pro Quo novella
It's hard to rate this, because it's an interlude which shows Warrick thinking about Toreth, rather than advancing plot or ship. Sits perfectly within the universe though.
Felt more like a cut scene (if this is actually the case, I'm guessing it was originally the beginning of Pancakes and Francis decided to move it to focus attention on the two main characters, which seems like the right move) than a short story.
The friendship between the two characters didn't seem convincing and I didn't buy that someone as smart and secretive as Warrick would share personal information that he didn't want people to know.
Hopefully it ties in to some larger plot that I haven't encountered yet, because on its own it seemed pointless.
If there was any doubt, Warrick has now confirmed them. Or at least, that's what my romantic side is seeing between the lines. He may not want to tell people about Toreth but that doesn't mean he doesn't care. Just the disrupture in his routine is evidence of that. There is also an obvious discrepancy between depth of emotion between him and Toreth. I am so curious what will happen next.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
We're getting there. In Friday, we finally get a glimpse into Warrick's mind and . Hopefully Toreth won't screw it up (but I'm guessing he will). I liked Cele too.
