This box set of the Princess Diaries Volumes I, II, and III is repackaged to match the beautiful new look of the series just in time for the holidays. Princesses rejoice!
Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flunked freshman Algebra twice, then decided to cut her own bangs. After six years as an undergrad at Indiana University, Meg moved to New York City (in the middle of a sanitation worker strike) to pursue a career as an illustrator, at which she failed miserably, forcing her to turn to her favorite hobby--writing novels--for emotional succor. She worked various jobs to pay the rent, including a decade-long stint as the assistant manager of a 700 bed freshmen dormitory at NYU, a position she still occasionally misses.
She is now the author of nearly fifty books for both adults and teens, selling fifteen million copies worldwide, many of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers, most notably The Princess Diaries series, which is currently being published in over 38 countries, and was made into two hit movies by Disney. In addition, Meg wrote the Mediator and 1-800-Where-R-You? series (on which the television series, Missing, was based), two All-American Girl books, Teen Idol, Avalon High, How to Be Popular, Pants on Fire, Jinx, a series of novels written entirely in email format (Boy Next Door, Boy Meets Girl, and Every Boy's Got One), a mystery series (Size 12 Is Not Fat/ Size 14 Is Not Fat Either/Big Boned), and a chick-lit series called Queen of Babble.
Meg is now writing a new children's series called Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls. Her new paranormal series, Abandon, debuts in Summer of 2011.
Meg currently divides her time between Key West, Indiana, and New York City with a primary cat (one-eyed Henrietta), various back-up cats, and her husband, who doesn't know he married a fire horse. Please don't tell him.
Sorry but these books still pop off. (Meg should have stopped after the first three - there's a natural arc & a natural stopping point & after that they kind of go downhill imho.) But my collection of books 1-3 is right up there with Barchester Towers for Ultimate Comfort Reading and I decided this was a year and a season where I was in need of comfort.
Movies were for sure more iconic. I mean Julie Andrews playing Clarisse, how could you possibly top that? But the book just had a certain *chef's kiss*. It was the perfect spooky season buffer. Plus what an ending! I'm swooning. I'm gonna pretend the series ends here, because omg how cute.
Why did I think reading only books 9 and 10 would be enough to bring me comfort? Don't get me wrong, they're my favorites in the series, but they were not enough. I just binge read books 1-7. I have to say books 4, 6 and 7, are far lower in quality compared to the rest. I'm going to read books 8 and 11 and then I'll write a complete rant of why Lilly was never Mia's friend. Also Anne Hathaway really nailed the audio books 1, 2 and 3.
Digging out of a closet, with a Borders exclusive sticker on it (as well as a 1.98 clearance sticker), getting to p41 before going ya know what this has been a really good bedtime book in the sense that it has put me to sleep multiple times.
This was written for teens but I have loved it as an adult. It's a easier read but with a story line that definitely pulls you in. Now I have to keep reading though.. cause Michael moscovitz... aye!
Once i saw the cover to this book & the title i fell in love with it. I had to start reading it. Ever since i read the first page, i got hooked and i didnt want to let go of the book. It was like i really had a connection with the book. This book really tells a lot and helps girls feel good about themselfs. At times i wished i was Mia because she sometimes seemed so happy like she was a Princess <3 Mia at the time when i read this was like the best person who i ever read about. She seems very open & charming. Well i really enjoyed reading this book i read it everywhere bus, train and in bed. I even fell asleep with the book laying on my tummy :) well got to go.
bold text: okaiie you cant always disagree with people just because you thnik your not ganna be good at it. Mia didnt believe in her self everyone has to believe in themsleves. Believing in your self encoutrages you into doing things to help others. she thought she would have never become a princess she didnt even believe her grangmere was the queen of geanovia and her father being prince. her parents gave her big elections to becoming the princess. she would always rite about how her day went at school home and even with her friends.
I have read all 10 of these books and all 4 of the novellas. I think they are amazing and they totally brighten your day. I was going through a rough patch and these books really helped me keep it together. My favorite book was the 3rd one when Mia and Michael finally get together. My least favorite was ninth one. Mia felt super whiny and I didn't really love her hanging out with Lana. Also I hated J.P. The tenth one was pretty good too and I liked the ending. My copies of this book are falling apart, I've reread it so much.
This was a good book. Its about a girl named Mia, she is five-foot-nine, flat-chested high school freshman who is failing algebra. She really does't have any friends, beside this one girl named Lilly who she can tell everything to, but one thing. Mia finds out that her mom is going out with her algebra tacher and thats a little hard for Mia to take. On top of that she finds out that she is the princess of a small European country.
I absolutly loved this series. For some reason, I felt the pacing in this book was really nice, it wasnt too fast nor too slow and I got every single detail. The main character(mia), I just loved her. She's just your typical high school girl(who finds out she's a princess) and she has to cope with this messed up(in a good way) life. I mean what would you do if your mom started dating your algebra teacher?
Couldn't find the first book on Amazon...this was the closest. Much better than the movie, this novel in diary format is a funny, quick, light read! :o)
I really hate every single book in this series--they all read like an idle 1997 IM chat session between two 13 year-olds. No matter how old Mia gets it's still the same tone, no growth or maturity.
Cute little brain candy aimed at teenage girls. I certainly enjoyed this quick read. I don't forsee it winning a Pulitzer or anything, but it was a quick enjoyment.
