Abby Horton finds herself manipulated into managing her aunt's upscale flower shop the week of Valentine's Day. A Manhattan office manager by day and playwright by night, Abby knows nothing about the floral trade. Retired NFL superstar Brett Kincade stops by to order his Valentine's flowers and catches the gorgeous new gal in town reading an underground review of Whispers by the Sea-a five-star resort specializing in providing adult sensual dining and their guests' wildest fantasies come true. Their attraction is instant. With a little coaxing from Brett's famous "soft hands", Abby eagerly accepts his invitation to Whispers the next night. Dressed from head to toe in gifts Brett sends throughout the day, Abby can barely breathe wondering what's in store for her at Whispers. The reality tops her fantasy, but is this the start of something she's dreamed of since her first visit to Seaside as a skinny, mouth-full-of-metal fifteen-year-old? Or just another one-night stand for an ex-jock who has everything?
I was born and raised in a small town in Texas close to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Writing has been in my blood since I was eight years old and wrote my first story for an English assignment. The baby of four children, I was spoiled rotten and still am.
I can't imagine ever writing anything but romances. I enjoy writing about two people (or sometimes more than two) falling in love. If you like the story enough to smile in places, shed a tear at times, or get a warm and fuzzy feeling, that is my greatest reward.
Besides writing at every opportunity, I love reading, traveling, scrapbooking, photography, and learning new things on the computer. I'm a software junky and like trying out new programs, especially anything to do with graphics.
I moved back to Texas after living on the West Coast for 21 years, to a small town 17 miles from where I grew up. I live close to my only surviving sister.
Not bad. Sort of a "didn't-we-meet-long-ago/ Cinderella story/ erotic romance". The book blub does an excellent job of describing what this book is all about but I'll summerize:
Extremely rich and famous ex-jock (6' 5'', blue-eyed blond quarterback) Brett, 36, known for his womanizing ways, meets his "soul mate" (32 year-old, 5'9", slim, recent divorcee) Abby when she comes to the southeast coast town of Seaside to help out with her aunt's flower shop. It's Valentine's Day weekend coming up, Brett puts on the full court press, gifting Abby with dress/shoes/bling/limo so she'll go out with him to exclusive/secret dining spot/resort known as Whispers By The Sea. Abby is overwhelmed, sparks fly big time, they have a grand old time filled with dancing, dining, and all the sex Abby can handle...Abby thinks she's in love...and then Brett suddenly pulls back. What went wrong? Was she just another one-night-stand to Brett? Or is there something else going on here?
This was an easy read, and for the most part I enjoyed it. I wondered where the author was going with this since everything just seemed a little too perfect/too good to be true with this couple at first. Not sure that I agree with the hero's explanation for why he acted the way he did (there had to be an easier way to get what he wanted)...but to the author's credit it did keep me reading, so I guess I fell for it. There was a nice amount of heat betwen the H/h, but it didn't take over the whole book. Just the big night at "Whispers" (where nothing too kinky happened beyond the use of a butt plug and some fruit) and a nice little reunion scene at the end.
As far as erotic romances go, not the most unique storyline or the hottest couple, but entertaining enough for an afternoon read. 4 stars
I really liked the premise of a this story. Where a good looking jock recognizes and falls in love with his soul mate. The soul mate in question is the skinny little nerd girl who helped him out. Way back in the days of high school. A lot of time passes and he became a very hot football player. Who also became a smooth operator with the ladies. He at least learned to please his woman for the time. Abby well she's a typical slim five foot eight inch female. Who is smart talented and sassy. My favorite type of woman I prefer reading about. But she is like the rest of us with issues and insecurities. The story was very erotic and filled with heat and chemistry. I was fanning myself a lot. They were times that my toes curled. They were times where the story lagged but I got over it. It's worth the time to find out.
Okay, maybe I need a break from Lynn LaFleur because when I swiped the last page on this book, I was just confused wondering what it was I read.
It seemed disconnected with Brett and Abby finally meeting up after 3 hours together 18 years ago during a storm. Brett confessing his long-held feelings for her then every action henceforth was to sweep her off her feet and into his bed. Abby just seemed passive and allowing herself to get caught up in the Brett whirlwind.
There was a moment of betrayal but it was resolved as quick as it occurred which doesn't seem realistic to me.
I may have to give this another read next time just to see if it's me or the book.
