Fannie Flagg began writing and producing television specials at age nineteen and went on to distinguish herself as an actress and writer in television, films, and the theater. She is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (which was produced by Universal Pictures as "Fried Green Tomatoes"), Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!, Standing in the Rainbow, and A Redbird Christmas.
Flagg’s film script for "Fried Green Tomatoes" was nominated for both the Academy Award and the Writers Guild of America Award and won the highly regarded Scripters Award. She lives in California and Alabama.
This is by far the best book I have read in such a long time. I laughed and I cried and I completely fell in love with all the characters and I was so disappointed when it ended! everyone should read this at least once
A good read. I read it at the beach (where I do most of my reading). I want to read this entire series of Fannie Flagg books. The characters are so warm, and you feel like you want to find that town and settle down there.
I love this film and have had the book sat on my bookshelf for too long. Decided to read it and although it is different from the film it's just as wonderful. I honestly feel as though I've been sat in a favourite old cardigan wrapped up warm and snuggly whilst reading this book, but the threads of the cardigan were all the wonderful characters in this book. I started reading this around the middle of December and it was due to my schedule and not the content of the book that it's taken me so long to read it. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story.
I loved this book, I've come to realize I'm a fan of quirky southern fiction. It was funny, sad and uplifting. Made me want to hop on a train and jump off at the Whistle Stop Café.
I read the book years after seeing the movie several times and was pleasntly surprised at the changes. I'm a sucker for warm endearing stories so this one was right up my alley.
Možda uskoro ponovno pogledam i film.
Mukavaa luettavaa vaihteeksi. Kokonaisuus on hallittu, lämmin, rakkastettava mutta soluu hieman yllätyksettömästi. Kuitenkin juoni kestää: kuvailevassa kerronnassa on erityistä imua. Lukijalle raotetaan välillä keittiön ovea, kannetaan silmien eteen kekseliäitä annoksia - uusien makujen ja tuoksujen huumaa.
I read many years ago . . . and I loved it just as much as I did the first time around. Some things just scream or an encore performance, don't they? Fannie creates the most fabulous characters and they can read their lines with great pizzazz!
I put up the wrong book cover . . . but, I cannot change it to only Fried Green Tomatoes. I haven't read Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! (I do have it on my bedside table in my to read pile!!
Another of the rare cases when I've liked the film more than the book, Fried Green Tomatoes just made me say "enh." The second novel, Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! was even less likable, though Flagg sure was during her '70s game show days.
Enjoyed the book. It was nice to read something from several points of view. And the chapters were quick and easy, so you could put down and pick back up easily. We had a nice, but short discussion, at book club. I think it is fun to read these "classics"!
Actually, I hated it. It was no where NEAR as good as the movie, and the lesbian overtones were totally unexpected. I didn't finish it. I'll stick to the movie.

Fried Green Tomatoes captured the sense of life in a small town at that time. The characters seemed so alive that I expected to run into them in real life. T he author has a wonderful talent for capturing the average person and making each one special. Also, the plot was great! I also liked how the past and present came together. I am recommending this book to everyone! I also liked Welcome to the World.....but it didn't have the huge cast of unforgettable characters and the richness of Fried Green Tomatoes, I think
