A mildly interesting tale which is more interesting as it takes very old tales and converts them into a readable format via graphic novels. I doubt I would have read the short stories.

As an adult interested in horror fiction and comic books, this work falls flat. This is through no fault of its own; the book would probably delight a preadolescent.

Chilling Tales generously introduces younger readers to otherwise inaccessible yarns. Let's be frank, many of these classics are stuffy and prolix to the point of being a turn off to adults, much less children. This work takes the dense text and heavily truncates it into digestibility. Paired with cartoonish yet stylish artwork, we get tame tales to tell in the dark.

The biggest flaw ends up being this truncation. While grammatically sound, it ranges from adequate to sloppy. The translation inexpertly snips away at plot, atmosphere and subtlety leaving the classic tales as feeble ghosts, perfect pairing with the anodyne imagery.

Again, the audience demographic should be considered, but even so the book would have been many degrees better with more thoughtful writing.

Short stories by various authors adapted into graphic novel form. Some stories were better than others, but overall it was really enjoyable. My favorite stories were The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe and House B. On Camden Hill by Catherine Crowe. Eventually I am going to check into some books by Catherine Crowe.

I thought the illustrations were great. If you like horror, this is a nice graphic novel to read. Three and a half stars.

Love the illustration style and coloring of this graphic novel! The adapted stories were too short for me, but it makes me want to read the real ones!

Chilling Tales of Horror is an example of classic horror stories in the book was written by a "real" author, A graphic portrait of the author begins each of the tales, which are if not horrific, at least vaguely eerie. The most frightening by far to me was Poe's The Black Cat, though for any lover of ghost tales, each story will deliver the expected chill. This graphic anthology of classic horror tales is an interesting blend. These 19th century tales were from the early days of modern horror stories, and originate many of the things which are now considered cliches. Thus, it is fascinating to see adaptations of these tales.

Totalmente up my alley.

Continuing my adventure into reading different genres with a collection of story stories written by classic authors; given life by illustration.

PROS
The artwork was really beautiful.

CONS
It was categorized as a YA Teen book, but I really think it should be more juvenile level. The stories were condensed and rewritten to fit the book and the targeted audience... I get that, but they were almost too edited down. The strong voices of these authors were transformed into silly voices that you might read in a elementary-level novel.

OVERALL
Entertaining - beautiful artwork but I was not a fan of how the stories were rewritten.

Eh, certainly not chilling or even mildly horrific. The graphics are neat in their own way and I liked the introduction to the writer of the short story, but it didn't translate into the graphic format. I'd be interested in reading all of them in the original prose to get a feel for them.
