Promised Land: The Future of Israel Revealed in Prophecy

Rate this book
Since the end of World War II, the focus of world politics has shifted from Europe and North America to the Middle East. Today's news media devote more attention to the Middle East than to any other place on earth. And it is no accident that Israel, a nation no bigger than the state of New Jersey, continuously dominates these headlines. Why has this tiny, struggling land become the fulcrum of human history? What is the main destructive force-hard at work in the Middle East-that is threatening international peace and security? Who is controlling the events that will draw all nations on earth into a final decision-a decision that will determine their very survival? These questions are explored in the recently updated Promised Land. Intercessors, students of prophecy, and Christians who love Israel will want to read this book to take a closer look at God's plan, unfolding through human history and culminating with the advent of his glorious kingdom on earth.

This is a reprint of a book that originally came out in 1982. While it has been updated by the Editorial Team of Prince's ministry (he died in 2003), this is not an "up to date" look at Israel and its role in the Middle East.Prince failed to address Scripture passages that Jesus or the church is in some way fulfilling some of the promises to Abraham. There is a good history of Israel and a good section on Bible prophecy and fulfillment. This might be a good book for new Christians or Christians new to the topic of prophecy. Seasoned Christians, however, will find nothing new here. See my complete review at http://bit.ly/1gcq7hb.

Excellent discussion of the current situation in the Middle East and the future of the nation of Israel - God promises that once regathered the Jewish people will not be removed again from their homeland.

The author Derek Prince lived in Palestine. The day following the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, five Arab nations attacked, ploughing a shell through Prince’s Jerusalem window. He picked up the shell casing and read: “Made in Britain”.

During World War 2, when Nazi Germany sourced its oil from Romania, Britain got theirs from the USA. However, Britain was very interested in the oil discovered in the Middle Eastern countries from Iraq, 1927, Bahrain, 1932, Qatar, 1935, and Saudi Arabi and Kuwait in 1938. Therefore, although since the late nineteenth century there had been a strong push in the UK for a State of Israel in Palestine, when war broke out in 1948, they didn’t want to upset the Arabs. When Shylock appeared in the Merchant of Venice, there had been no Jews in England for 300 years, yet Shakespeare was echoing the stereotype of the Jew who menaces Western civilization even as he extracts his pound of flesh. Therefore, not only did Britain want to exploit Middle Eastern oil fields, it also had elements of antisemitism.

Whether you read The Key to the Middle East to learn the physical causes of the ongoing war or the spiritual ones, Prince’s unemotional logic is calming. I found it sad that in fact the Jews and Arabs had been living peacefully together until the United Nations decision to partition Palestine prompted the British to supply arms to the Arabs. But what can you say? The British also gave my mother’s homeland of Istria to Italy because Italy played the field looking for a new Roman Empire and Britain offered them a better deal than Germany.

And what might have happened had Disraeli, the only Jewish British Prime Minister, not lost that all-important election of 1880 when Britain was prepared to secure by diplomatic means a Jewish Homeland from the Ottomans?

It's interesting how often international politics boils down to British expediency.

I think all Christians need to read this book. It's amazing to see God work. And this book will show you how God is truly working in Israel and with the Jewish people. It's truly refreshing to find an author who doesn't just help you understand the true history of Israel but he was also there when God returned the Jews to Israel and recreated the Israel country overnight on May 15, 1948. Pray for Israel.

Summary:
Derek Prince was a soldier in the British army and stationed in the Palestine area at the time of his discharge. He had recently married and they would continue to live in Palestine a few more years. During this era World War II had just ended and the Jewish people wanted a nation of their own. Derek Prince witnessed first hand the new nation of Israel struggle against hostile neighbors.
He also began a life long love of Bible prophesy.
In the preface the author acknowledges a natural resource in the Middle East that the world depends on, Oil. It's given the Middle East "political power." Oil brought the Middle East countries a strong voice, as well as control over its riches. A second decisive topic for the Middle East is Israel. No other Middle East country is "in love" with Israel. Peace accords have been reached by some of their neighbors. Most of the Middle East is a smoldering pot in reference to Israel.
Prince begins the book with a short biography of his life and how he came to live in Palestine in the mid through late 1940s. He reminds us of the destruction of Europe after World War II, the after affects of the Holocaust, and the dire need of a nation for the Jewish people.
Using Old Testament scripture (some New Testament) he builds his case of bible prophecy of Israel.

Thoughts:
The Key To The Middle East, is a tough book to review.

It's a reprint. I have no idea what is different or added anew in this edition as opposed to the previous printing.
This is the first book on this subject I've read.

Reason number two is why I wanted to read and review this book, still it's a challenge.
The beginning chapters felt to me as if the author was building his case for the topic and book. As a courtroom attorney builds his case to persuade jurors, Derek Prince built his case to the readers.
All non-fiction authors should begin by stating reasons for their book, followed by what they hope to accomplish, etc. Prince had a great beginning, but I did not agree with all his conclusions. For example, when he came to the question on page 120: "What can we do to repay our spiritual debt to the Jewish people?" I halted. I don't feel I owe a "spiritual debt" to the Jewish people. I have empathy for their suffering and what they've been through, and pray for them. Further, I don't feel they are waiting on a spiritual debt repayment. They are a people of resilience, hard-work, perseverance and determination. They've worked tirelessly to search and bring to justice Nazi criminals, find artwork and money stolen from them during the Holocaust, and to create and protect the nation they love. I have great respect and admiration for them.
I was interested in and found intriguing the prophecy of the restoration of Israel brought about "a new era." An "era" not "the times of the Gentiles" but of "...the government of God on earth, for Israel and for all nations." See Romans 11:25-27.
Strong points of this book is the authors close connection with Israel both before and during its statehood, and Israel's "chronology of events" from 1947-2012; included are the wars, raids, prime ministers, peace negotiations. There is a statistics counter comparing Israel to other Middle East countries in terms of population, military population, exports.

I was given this book for free by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The following opinions are my own.

I have always been somewhat curious about the prophecies surrounding the Middle-East and the nation of Israel in general. I selected this book in hopes that it would give me some insight into what Biblical prophecy says about Israel, how it had been fulfilled in the past, and indicators of coming fulfillment in both Israel and the Middle East. The book was an interesting read overall but there were a few issues that made it somewhat disappointing in places as well.

The major issue that I had with this book is that a lot of times I would read what the author wrote and find myself asking him to give me more proof. It's one thing to say 'I felt the British soldiers were prohibitive rather than helpful in this situation' but quite another to provide proof to make me believe that is anything beyond your personal opinion. A lot of statements sounded almost like a conspiracy theorist might sound trying to convince you that it's all an elaborate scheme. I'm not saying that the author is a conspiracy theorist at all, only wishing that he had provided more concrete evidence in places beyond his own feelings or thoughts of why it happened. It would have made the book more cohesive and believable.

The book left me feeling shorted because I often wondered if what that author said was proven fact or merely opinion. This was especially annoying when pertaining to things that could be proven, like who fired first in a battle or something along those lines. Additionally, I occasionally felt that he assumed too much familiarity on the part of the reader, as if he were discussing this with someone who was already well versed in the issue at hand. Several times I found myself wondering what he was talking about, especially when he just referenced seeing the timeline at the end of the book, and this detracted somewhat from the overall enjoyment of the book. I read this book because I wanted to learn more about the subject from a somewhat ignorant standpoint as far at the details were concerned. Reading events in the timeline didn't familiarize me enough with them to see the big picture.

The book itself was decently written despite the issues mentioned above and I wouldn't hesitate to read another of Mr. Prince's books if it came up for review. I liked his style and the personal stories that he included throughout the book but think there might be a better book for beginners wanting to look into the issue.

About the Book:

An accessible guide to the historical and biblical significance of God's chosen land, its greatest threat, and how these relate to God's plans for all nations.

About the Author:

Derek Prince (1915-2003) is the author of more than 50 books and 600 audio and 100 video teachings, many of which have been translated and published in more than 100 languages. He founded Derek Prince Ministries International, and his daily radio broadcast, Derek Prince Legacy Radio, still reaches listeners around the world. His concise way of explaining the Bible has helped millions build a foundation of faith.

My Review:

Derek Prince has a thorough type of teaching that goes well beyond alot of Bible scholars you will hear from today. He has thoroughly studied the Bible and through all of his research he can pinpoint the connection to modern day history, times, and events to give us a more vivid understanding and above all help us apply it to our every day lives. The Bible and all contained therein is very multifaceted. There is no one event that transpires that doesn't have several different meanings and connotations.

Mr. Prince takes what he has learned and can teach you something new that maybe you had not realized before. Like that all the people that the Bible tells us about were all Israelite. Or that all 12 apostles were Jews. The restoration of Israel as we have come to know it begins in the heart of all of us. This is God's main plan to restore Israel. We can help the process by supporting them, loving them, and praying for them. Mr. Prince's book is his commentary on what he believes the connection of Bible prophecy is to modern day Israel.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Chosen Books.

Note: This is a pro-Israel book.

When I picked this book up, I didn't realize that it was mainly about religion, specifically Christianity. I just thought it was going to be about the Israel-Palestine conflict, and that's my fault for not reading the back of the book before I picked it up (or the complete title).

That being said, I didn't think it was bad. If you are interested in reading about the Israel-Palestine conflict, there are a couple of chapters dealing with its history and such, containing a lot of good information. After reading this book and doing some research of my own, I feel like I have a much better grasp on what's going on over there.

The majority of this book, however, is about Bible prophecies and predictions about what will happen in Israel and Palestine based on God's word. I am not a Christian, and I have never read the Bible, so there were times where I was a bit confused. Again, there was some interesting information, but I found some of these chapters to be a bit redundant. I felt the same point was being made over and over again, just using different passages in the Bible to back it up each time. I found myself skimming through some of these chapters.

If you're interested in the idea of the Bible prophesizing the fate of Israel and Palestine (and it is an interesting topic), you'll probably enjoy this book. If you're just looking for the history and a better understanding of the Israel-Palestine conflict, there are better books out there.

Key to the Middle East, The

Discovering the Future of Israel in Biblical Prophecy

by Derek Prince

Chosen

Chosen Books

Christian, Nonfiction (Adult)

Pub Date 01 Nov 2013

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of The Key to the Middle East through the publisher and Netgalley:

Derek Prince points out since the end of a world War 2 Politics have shifted from Europe to the Middle East.

In April 1946 the author stands in front of the Dome of the Rock.

The author goes on to point out that the first eleven chapters of the Bible serve as an introduction.

The author points out that all 39 books of the Old Testament were written by Jewish authors, and of course Jesus was born a Jew, and all 27 books of the Old Testament, with the possible exception of loose, but he would come to the Jewish faith.

On May 14,1948 the British forces finally withdrew from Palestine, and the state of Israel was officially proclaimed.

The Key to the Middle East points out the impact the Middle East has had from Biblical times to the modern day.

Five out of five stars.

Happy Reading.

The world's future depends on the existence and wellbeing of Israel.

First published in 1982, Derek Prince's scripturally based argument gives historical and spiritual insight into the nation state of Israel and its relationship with other nations and people groups. In light of the points made,he outlines a necessary godly response.

The final chapter outlines potential scenarios for further outworking of biblical truth; thirty years on, you decide whether he is on track or not.

I was drawn to this book because of reading Psalm 122 where there is a call for people to pray for the well-being of Jerusalem; this book has proved inspirational and a timely read.

Books and authors is a funny size.
My preferred author, over a longer period is:
Derek Prince, I've been around a lot of other very talented writers, over a longer period. and then I came back to Derek Prince, and frankly it's like coming back home, after having been on a long and life-transforming journey.
I do not think that I have read a book so quickly, it occurred to me so natural to read/consume in big juicy chunks, in such a short time. It was as if I constantly knew what he would write, three or four lines further down the page.
And boom it was over.
Cool experience. :-)
This book: The Promised Land. is really worth reading.
Not so much chitchat, but right to the core.
Derek. Hits again nail on the head. With his knowledge and understanding impati.

This book helped me look at the bible and present day Israel on parallel window panes. The historical details of the new nation of Israel are accurate. Whether the biblical passages quoted apply directly to present day happenings in Israel, the reader can decide for himself. One passage that touched me the most is, why Christians need to pray for and help Israel. The reasons proceed logically from our beliefs as Christians, and are easy to accept.

Fun read, though lacking in source material. I enjoyed reading the author's experience in Israel as well as the history of the State of Israel starting from its inception until 2012. Not overly theological, but I appreciate the simplicity presented.

Great book on Israel and the important role it plays in the end times. Israel should be supported by the Christian believer.
