Lycon was left abandoned on Mount Taygetos as a baby, rescued by a farming couple, unable to have children of their own, he spends his life helping shepherd the sheep and protect them from the prowling wolves. One day a chance encounter leads to Lycon wrestling Leon, the general of the Krypteia, Sparta's Elite Youth Secret Service. However, with a crippled leg, Lycon has to use his cunning, and wit to outmanoeuvre the commander, and suddenly he's thrust into the service as a Blacksmith and Armourer for the army, and the two begin to grow a warm and wholesome friendship.

Lycon is such an empowering character, after being left on Mount Taygetos as a baby with a crippled leg, he's often used to being underestimated and overlooked, but he's clever, cunning and brave, refusing to shy away from any situation that arises, no matter the danger. Underneath it all though, he has a warm heart and an optimistic viewpoint on life. His clever and resourceful attitude and strategies may just save Greece and unite Athens and Sparta in the most deadliest Perisan invasion yet. I was honestly in awe of his spirit, he's astounding, inspirational and is sure to make your heart feel so full.

Lycon and Leon's friendship is one of the most gorgeous and wholesome friendships I've ever read about. They are soul mates in the form of best friends, bringing out the best in each other and their loyalty to each other is incomparable. They bounce off each other so well, and I really loved whenever they interacted with each other.

'The Wolf Cub of Sparta' is a story rich with Ancient Greek culture, war politics and mythology, that's beautifully and lyrically compelling, and so vividly drawn you feel immediately immersed into Spartan life. Vibrant and gritty, this story is quietly powerful and impactful, with love and companionship at it's heart. It also has a beautiful message reminding you that everyone is capable of so much more than they think, and how powerful, tenacious and significant each individual is in this world, and the ending.....

it made my heart burst with joy and happiness, a truly astounding, gorgeously written and impactful novel that'll stay with you long after you've finished reading.

A story of friendship, perseverance and strength that should be on your TBR!

Im a huge greek mythology lover and when I read the synopsis on this book I knew I needed to read asap. I was far from disappointed once I finally dove into this read. This author has a way with writing amazing characters that you can't help but connect to. Lyon immediately had me on his side, he could do no wrong in my eyes, after a less than easy life you get to see his character growth through out this read, and can't help but cheer him on from the sidelines.

The plot was so seamlessly written and you are never left feeling like it's dragging, every second is packed with greek culture and interesting characters. This is defiantly a Ya read that everyone should be reading. I loved the whole storyline and how the author gets you feeling like you're part of the Spartans with the characters, the most compelling part of the read for me is how Ryan shows the friendship between the main characters through out the read, I really loved the companionship between these two. I found myself loosing track of time while reading and at times forgetting I was reading a book at all!

I will definitely be reading more by this author.
