to be honest I only picked this up because I did not know what lapidary

Not knowing anything about lapidary and yet wanting to do some work in the field as I have worked some in making jewelry I picked up this book. It is just what it says an "Introduction." I shows you some pictures or equipment and what people have made and some ideas on how the made them but not much of the later. Not knowing much it help but it is also a little dated.
