Rik Raven (1966) lives in a small village in the south of Holland. She writes magic-realistic thrillers, blogs, poems, short stories, and articles for a weekly regional newspaper.
Her stories have a very personal, distinctive style. They take you into the lives of ordinary people that have to deal with situations very much out of the ordinary. Woven into this interaction between vastly different characters and the description of their lives in this and other, more alien worlds is a recurring magical element.
Some of her stories were nominated for the Edge Zero Award, a Dutch literary fantasy award. Some of her stories were translated into English and some of them were published in anthologies from the US.
Revenge is a common theme, but coming of age as well as the drive for satisfaction, seduction and self-centeredness are frequent leitmotifs. Violence and sex are not shunned and no one is spared, but love is always at the heart of every story.
 
Rik published the novels Source, Drive and Justice, the latter of which was nominated for the Bastard Fantasy Award, another Dutch fantasy award.
2009 saw her winning first prize in the Crimezone poetry contest with her poem A heartbeat as a goodbye. By now she publishes her poems with Heimdall Publishers, in anthologies, and in poetry chapbooks of her own.
