This is a beautiful book indeed. One must overlook the English translation's error inside, wherein the word 'macaron' is spelt with an extra 'o', unlike its cover.
However, this is not an impractical book as some reviewers suggest. It is very easy to use and understand; I say this having made the salted caramel macarons successfully on my very first attempt (ever) at macarons. I am now making the coffee and blueberry ones, and as long as I keep up my vigilance, I expect them to be as successful as my first three batches of macarons.
Believe in yourself, and give this book --or simply making macarons-- a try. :)
Perhaps the author of this book can bake, perhaps the author cannot, and I’m leaning towards the latter. If the author can indeed bake and all the beautiful photos are of the actual recipes in this book, then the author does not know how to teach AT ALL. I’m not a novice baker and I followed the instructions perfectly every time. Three different recipes and they came out terrible. The instructions are minimal and need more details if the macarons are actually going to turn out right. The recipe for caramel was garbage, I ended up using my own. The ganache recipe was off/wrong. There are much better (and far more detailed/clear) instructions to making these on the internet. Unless you are a professional baker who already knows how to make a perfect macaron, don’t waste your time or ingredients with this book.
haven't made any of the recipes yet, but the lay-out it nice, the flavor combos seem well-thought out, and the photos are pretty. though, as tumblr has taught us all, you can't really go wrong photographing macarons. will hopefully remember to revise this review once I've actually cooked something.
