2 hearts out of 5
Well thank God that is over! I usually read a book in a day; two days tops and this one took me almost a week to read. I actually kept putting off reading and looking for other things to do. When I say to myself, “Oh look, there’s dishes, better put the book down and do them” I guess that’s a good indication that I think the book sucks.
This book was chalk full of sex. In fact too much sex. I was actually starting to skip over the sex parts because I was dying for more of a story. I love to read good sex but I want the sex to be “apart” of the story not BE the story.
So here were the problems.
Firstly, I know that this is not the author’s fault but see the cover. The woman in the story, Kiera Stevens, has long red hair. The hair is so long that it touches her. I totally hate that the cover shows a woman with plain brown hair in a shot bob cut. Also the man, John Atlantis AKA Lantis, is so tall and big he towers over Keira and she is supposed to be a tall and slender. I just hate when the cover has nothing to do with the story at all. I often look and relook at covers to help picture the story and set the mood and it just pisses me off that the cover couple is NOTHING like the characters.
Second thing I hated, is too much sex. Yes that’s right, too much sex and the absurdity of amount of sex or the improbability of the sex. I mean has this author even had sex? Let me give you an example. They finish a terrifying car chase and guess what; yep he is aroused and wants sex. So Lantis is in the driver’s seat, (big huge muscular man that he is) and pulls the very tall and leggy Keira over to him. He somehow manages to flip her over so that she is sitting in the driver’s seat, undresses her and him and then plunges into her. Then once sex is over, he is caressing her bare buttocks. Okay anyone pass their teenage years who has ever tried to make out in a car (or even use Rory and Dean car make out session as an example) knows that this act is entirely impossible. No mention of the steering wheel in the way. No mention of how crowded it is. No mention of discomfort or the gear shift jabbing in the way. So basically I know that these are fantasy books but geez, I like the real believable stuff in my fantasy world too.
Okay one more example, Lantis and Keira are getting ready for sex, cause shit it must have been a ½ hr since the last time, and he is hooking her legs over his shoulders. All of sudden he is gripping her high, round tush and then he is ravishing her with kisses to her shoulders, breasts and kissing her mouth. All the while with her legs over his shoulders? Is she a contortionist? I don’t know about you, but this is something I can’t see happening.
One more thing, about the story in general. There is this mean dude who is trying to buy her company from her. Keira by the way is president and CEO of her own company and this is the speech the author wrote that the man Craig was giving her for her to sell her company to him. Now of course this Craig guy already owns his own company so you think he must be a good business man to try and negotiate the sell right???? So wrong. Check this out....”I’m sure by now you see the advantages of selling to me. A woman’s place is beside her man. Now that you have John to dedicate your time to, you really should divest your holding to kidTech’s performance will continue to suffer. Surely, you wouldn’t want that.” Okay seriously?? Really??? I wouldn’t think that a smart (even if he is evil) CEO of a company would try to persuade a woman president of a successful company with that line and really expect her to sell. About this time, I was checking to see if I had laundry to do. You know, I don’t really even want to talk about the story itself because there are too many faults. This book is going in the garage sale pile.
I know I could have stopped reading but once I start a book I have to finish it. Even if it sucks. The only book in my life that I think I started that I didn’t finish was “The Bell Jar”.
WARNING: Sex (practically every page), little tiny bit of spanking. She tried to add in dominance/submissive but failed miserably. She also tried to get you to feel how much they loved each other but I didn't feel it.
