Le 12 juillet 2006, Israël frappe le Liban suite à l’enlèvement de deux soldats israéliens par le Hezbollah à la frontière. Un bus affrété par l’ambassade de Russie à Beyrouth évacue les ressortissants russes vers un aéroport syrien. Pendant le trajet, la jeune narratrice, d’origine russe, retrouve Ali, un ancien camarade de classe d’origine ukrainienne qu’elle avait perdu de vue. Pourquoi Ali fuit-il le pays qu’il s’est toujours dit prêt à défendre ? Premier roman d’Alexandra Chreiteh traduit en français, Ali et sa mère russe confronte la société libanaise aux tabous qui la divisent. Alexandra Chreiteh est née à Moscou et a grandi au Liban. Après des études à l’Université libano- américaine de Beyrouth puis à Yale, elle enseigne à la Tufts University de Boston. Ses livres ont été traduits en anglais et en allemand. France Meyer, traductrice notamment de Naguib Mahfouz, a enseigné à l’Université nationale australienne de Canberra de 2011 à 2021.

Alexandra Chreiteh ألكسندرا شريتح is a Lebanese author known for her frank writing and portrayal barriers faced by Arab women.
Alexandra Chreiteh was raised in a religiously conservative region by her Russian mother and Lebanese father. Chreiteh completed her Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature at the Lebanese American University in Beirut, Lebanon.
After being granted a graduate fellowship by Yale University, she began her PhD in Comparative Literature during the fall of 2009. While at Yale, Chreiteh has completed her Masters of Arts in Comparative Literature in 2012 as well as a Masters of Philosophy in Comparative Literature in 2013. She has also been teaching creative writing at Yale.
