Fellow ranchers consider Jacob Tasker a lone wolf, a man who goes his own way and who stands alone. They’ll never know just how close they are to the truth. His pack slaughtered by the ancestors of those very ranchers, Jacob’s learned to trust no one and accept his solitary life.
Oliver Wingate loves and respects wolves. As a conservationist, he believes they should be re-introduced into their once-natural habitat. Yet he meets resistance from all the ranchers who feel the wolves will prey on their herds.
When Oliver runs afoul of some of the locals, it’s up to Jacob to ensure the young idealistic man doesn’t lose his life in a battle for the wolf’s survival...and all the while trying to keep from falling in love...
There is beauty in every kind of love, so why not live a life without boundaries? Experiencing everything the world offers fascinates me and writing about the things that make each of us unique is how I share those insights. I live in the Midwest with a wonderful partner of thirteen years. When not writing, I’m watching movies, reading and living life to the fullest.
Kind of disappointed with the second half of this book. Still don't get the idea why it's turn to that path. Should be something more interesting but duh. Good writing though.
I liked the story but I have to say that the ending is written to quick and it's not as fine done as it could be. But with the epilogue you can accept this quick end of the story.
Jared and Oliver are really interesting and hot couple but this fast turn of the story at the end make this story to cheesy.
3.5 stars - So close to being rounded down to three stars but the epilogue was just too good so I rounded up. Lol
For the record this is the second time I've read this. I read the blog version and also the published version. From what I can tell there isn't much difference between the two besides an added prologue and epilogue. I loved the blog version but I guess since I already read it once, I noticed more inconsistencies and had more questions this time around than I had the first time.
I did love both Ollie and Jacob. Ollie was cute in his nervous babbling and the adorable way he'd say G-rated curse words. Jacob was big, bad, and grumpy which I loved.
However, the plot and characters felt slightly hollow to me like they weren't developed all the way. I noticed a few inconsistencies and was left with quite a few questions regarding Jacob.
All in all, it's a good story if you were to overlook all my questions. I rather enjoyed the first read through but I just couldn't help noticing all that. Lol.
This novel starts with a mix of danger and thriller to then move to being completely a light romance.
Oliver is a conservationist working for the government; he wants to reintroduce the wolves in an area where they were hunted until extinction and his good intentions are not welcomed by the locals. Actually there is only one rancher, Jacob, who more or less is not pro or cons Oliver’s aim, but Jacob is used to not mingle with the townsfolk, he prefers to live on his own ranch with his dogs and sheeps.
Oliver and Jacob accidentally meet in town and Jacob is fascinated by the young man with his aura of innocence; Oliver is not really young and naïve, but he was in a long-committed relationship with another man who sadly died 5 years before, and since then he has never dated again. So basically Oliver only had a previous experience and he considers himself an average guy who probably will never attract a handsome man like Jacob.
Jacob has no really interest in social butterflies, living in a rather isolated ranch and not liking too much crowded place, Oliver is probably his perfect companion: a man who likes and respects the wild life, who will be willing to share the isolation Jacob prefers.
The fact that Jacob is a shapeshifter wolf is part of the story but sincerely is not really the main theme; the story moves more around their relationship, the goal to find a partner who can share your life and interests than having the issue to admit you are a mythical creature. Actually when the moment will arrive, it will be so “normal” that it will not cause much trouble in the balance they had already reached with their relationship.
Another main point is, as I said at the beginning, that the story starts with an act of violence, Oliver being beaten by the local rangers, but once Jacob shelters him, the story turns in a fully romance, and the townsfolk more or less disappears from the picture. Wolf’s Survival, in the end, is a nice romance between a lonely man, Jacob, who will heal his past pain with the help of a young man, Oliver; the subsequent relationship will be good and comfortable, with just that touch of passion to warm the whole.
As other readers of this story, I had the feeling that there is, or was, a story for Javier and Dillon, maybe the author will think to write also that one.
I absolutely adored both main characters and the other shifters that appeared in the story. I would love for it to be made a series and expand on the story. I would also like to see the pack overcome the nasty people in town.

Too long for the thin plot. A guy of F.B.I. is in town? When they were made aware of the situation? Von Hausling ==> Van Helsing Jared had a few boyfriends that didn't want to remain on the ranch and suddenly he only had one night stand and nobody has never come to the ranch. In town nobody notice that Jared doesn't aged. The penultimate chapter was illogical, impossible and a big disappointment. Ollie is going to grow old and die and it's never discussed.
Wouldn't recommend this. The story seems written too lightly. In my opinion, the plot is lacking interest and detail. I could excuse it if the reason for the shallowness was just that it was written for erotica but, even when in an erotic chapter, it still lacks any hold. I found myself wishing it were more embellished and containing a more thought out story. Potential was there but ti was one let down after another.
I like most books by TA Chase. This one is not an exception.
A good story about a hermit werewolf up on his mountain and a Department of Interior man working to reintroduce wolves into the wild at said mountain.
The plot didn't work for me, but the chemistry between the heroes and the romance was well written. And for once I actually liked the gruff silent alpha male, he was not an asshole. :)
Huh. Second or third book this author writes with a solid background, characters and editing. So much better than others. I did find Oliie's omission about knowing Jacob's identity a little upsetting. Jacob kept a secret for fear of his life. Ollie didn't have that excuse and should've told Jacob right from the start whether it upset him or not. But, like I said, everything else was quite solid and creative. I enjoyed very much. Good HEA too.

3.5, but rounded down because I really couldn't give it 4 stars.
I've struggled with the review for this one. I enjoyed the story, yet there were enough little bits that made me not like it quite as much as I'd hoped. In particular, I had a lot of trouble warming up to Jacob. Something just didn't mesh with me, and unfortunately it never got completely better.
I really, really liked this story. The whole Inca backround-I loved and wished there had been more. W I loved how Jared was an unapologetic jerk. It closed up a little too quickly. I wanted more...maybe a sequel please!
I liked this book. It's your typical werewolf in love story (which I have a weakeness for :) The epilogue was really interesting, I wish the book focused more on that story (you'll have to read it to know what I mean). I hope there's a sequeal.
Some inconsistencies with the story, but if you don't think about it too hard they are fairly easy to ignore. Ollie was cute, especially with his swear words. Jared was gruff and grumpy. Liked the characters a lot, tried my best to not dwell on details that didn't add up. :)
Read as part of my QGB Q2 Challenge recommended by Juana "Darkness". Great story. I ached for Jacob's loneliness and self imposed isolation. Loved that Ollie loved him in spite of it all. Great read.
I read this when it was being posted as her blog story, and I still enjoyed re-reading it once it was published. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending...would love a revisit with these characters!
