A personal narrative by Edwin J Scott (published in 1884 by Charles A. Calvo, Jr.). Scott was born in 1803 in Sumter, South Carolina. where his father owned a tavern. Random Recollections starts in Sumter and then moves to Columbia and Lexington, SC. Scott was a very successful banker and his recollections are vivid and very important to chronicling the history of Columbia . He talks about the War with Mexico and the Civil War, and he personally witnessed many historical activities including the burning of Columbia by General W.T. Sherman.
