The Council: A Psi's Revenge

Rate this book
You come home to find your father murdered and the killers' cold and brutal thoughts suddenly flash inside your head. They're waiting for you...

Jatz is a low-level Psi working for the Company in southwest Australia's biggest territory, helping them rebuild society from near-extinction in the previous century before he's launched headlong into the hunt for his father's murderer and the desperate search for answers to his past and to his new abilities.

Dukan is doing hard labour across the territory as he slowly plots his escape, and his revenge. Wrongly-convicted, he keeps his telepathic abilities as secretive as his shadowy past, never knowing how intimately-entwined it is with Jatz's family history, nor that both seek the same sadistic killer.

Aided by new friends and his ex-boyfriend, Jatz will learn to harness power mankind has never known while stubbornly flinging himself into trouble while Dukan struggles to balance obsession with compassion for kindred broken souls like himself. They'll both need all the help they can get as they take on an internal hit squad, The Council, bent on toppling the territory's leadership and reforging it under the same man they're after.

Station Eleven meets The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in this action-packed thrill-ride through dystopian Western Australia.

A fantastic first novel by Jay X Lee.

I was immediately hooked by the characters Jatz and Dukan as they struggled for survival and the search for justice in a barren post apocalyptic Perth, Western Australia.

The book was fast, well written and had all pistons firing, yet still found time to sprinkle tenderness throughout the harsh environment.

As a Western Australian myself I enjoyed the connection to Whadjuk Nyoongar languages seeping into the text as well as the quintessential landscape we have here.

Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a raw sci fi story akin to the Fallout game series.

Looking forward to the sequel.

THE COUNCIL: A PSI’S REVENGE.

I’m excited to tell you about this one because it was freaking awesome. I loved this book just as much as I loved The Old Universe, which I reviewed last month.

THE COUNCIL: A PSI’S REVENGE is a Dystopian Fiction/Dystopian Science Fiction novel written by JAY X. LEE and it is one of the best dystopian novels I’ve ever read.

I cannot say enough about this book. Right out of the gate on page 1 you’re pulled into this wild amazing world full of action and drama.
JAY X. LEE tells an amazing story full of rich interesting characters in a world that blew my mind. I couldn’t get enough of it, and I still can’t. I’ve already read the book a second time.

The story takes place in the year 2138, 60 years after the pulse. The main character Jatz is such a badass and I fell in love with him and his bestie Dom. And Dukan... oh my goodness, don’t get me started on him. I couldn’t get enough of any of them.

I was really impressed with how JAY X. LEE wrote about the character Dukan. It’s written in present time (which is 2138 in the book) but he adds all this amazing backstory about Dukan which transitioned beautifully from past to present every time he did it.

I really enjoyed reading the backstory on Dukan which showed what life was like for him as a child out on his own growing up into a man. I thought that was pretty cool.

Packed full of action from the first page to the last, THE COUNCIL: A PSI’S REVENGE is an amazing read.

The world JAY X. LEE created was so believable, I felt like I was right there watching everything unfold. The action scenes were some of the best well written scenes I’ve ever read. As I was reading them, I could totally picture what was happening as it played out in my head. Totally amazing. I just loved this book.

I also found myself impressed with the author as a storyteller. I still am. I can’t wait to read the second book of this series and anything else he writes.

This book was an easy read. I never got confused over what was happening or about any of the characters. With the way it was written, I never question anything about it.

It was an amazing read and THE COUNCIL: A PSI’S REVENGE will sit on the top shelf of my bookcase with my favorite books that I love to read over and over again.
