Not being a fan of dentist’s,( I guess not a phobia as will go but it’s not an afternoon out I would choose…) I had not heard of Dr Milad eg ‘The Singing Dentist’ and so picked up this book with no pre conception or tbh idea if would enjoy it..
It is a very relaxed, informal, chatty book PACKED with info not just on the authors career and fame but lots of info on teeth….including the history of Dentistry,a subject I would never have thought to read about but was fascinating plus myth busters about dentists and their profession….also the authors experiences as a Dentist…often funny to read but all interesting
A topical bit re private vs NHS and costs within both and also Covid is covered, again eye opening revelations are given
A book I may have missed but am really glad didn’t and would recommend to anyone whatever your scale of interest in Dentistry and teeth as I think like me you will be surprised just how much you enjoy it.

I've been a follower of The Singing Dentist for a while now, I love his energy and passion for both his singing and dentistry.

The Whole Tooth was fun, entertaining and educational. Shadrooh takes us through his own personal journey into dentistry and gives an honest insight into costs and Covid, and why things have changed, and why so many of us are struggling to see an NHS dentist.

The history of dentistry certainly opens your eyes doesn't it? I mean, some of the things they used as toothpastes and stuff were just stomach rollers.

I never thought I'd be saying I've read a book on dentistry and absolutely loved it, but here we are, I did!!

Many thanks to Anne Cater and Random Things Tours for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All views are my own.

Dr Milad Shadrooh has made a great name for himself as The Singing Dentist, clocking up 148k followers on YouTube. He has appeared on television numerous times, always looking for ways to promote good dental care.

Shadrooh's memoir is incredibly interesting, charting - with humour - the fascinating history of dentistry, and detailing what becoming a dentist entails. This is definitely a book that will be going into our school library for all of our potential medical students!

However, it is Shadrooh's unique way of helping the public understand the importance of dental treatment that is at the heart of this book. He tells of how he launched his YouTube/Music career, parodying pop songs by the musical elite such as Ed Sheeran, Pharell Williams and Drake, to name a few, fitting lyrics to them that explain why good oral hygiene is essential!

I have to be honest in that I was a little disappointed with the book, but I must stress that this was due to my own misinterpretation of the contents of the book. I was expecting something along the lines of Adam Kay's memoir This is Going to Hurt, with more of a focus on the weird and wonderful experiences with patients. Nevertheless, Shadrooh's writing is brilliantly witty and accessible, with some touching stories thrown in; but this really is a more informative look at the dental profession than I was hoping for or expecting. This is perfect for anyone wanting to know more before committing to years of study to become what is, clearly, an incredibly rewarding profession.

I am going to start my review by admitting – I am not a fan of going to the dentist. I’m not alone in that and that could have been a reason for me to not pick up this book, but I read the blurb and I had heard about the Singing Dentist so I was intrigued and wanted to give it a go and find out more

Now I have read the book I can honestly say that it really was good. The book itself was well planned out, I liked the story about how his profession was picked when he was young and I really enjoyed the stories from when he was learning his trade at dentistry school. There were more than a few tales in the book to make me smile and it was a genuinely uplifting read.

The writing style was fun and the book was easy to read – I didn’t think I would become a little addicted to a book about dentists but there you go – I was and it was a book I looked forward to picking back up.

The book touches on Covid and the impact from that on those offering dentist services and the move from standard treatment for some to them wanting cosmetic surgery – he doesn’t mention it specifically but we have all seen the horrors of those getting “turkey teeth” and the poor dentist based back home that then have to deal with the aftermath of the botched surgery.

The last story in the book was brilliant and I loved that was how it ended – such a positive one and I loved that his style, approach and ultimately his personality have made dentists on the whole seem a little less scary!

This book is absolutely brilliant! From the first page to the last, you are caught up on a clever blend of history and cheeky, quirky toothy comedy. You may be learning about teeth and the history of dentistry, but you feel like you are front row at a comedy show. Nothing about this book is boring or painful, in fact it’ll be the best time you’ve spent with a dentist, in your life. It may even be so good that you want to start seeing your dentist, to see if yours will give you a wee rap about molars!
I loved this book so much and know that so many readers will love it as well. It is an easy, hilarious read and one that readers of all genres can love and enjoy. I fully recommend! Get your laughs and have some dental fun!

This was a fun, interesting and informative read. Milad, The Singing Dentist, takes on a journey not just through his own life experience and route into dentistry but dentistry itself. It was fascinating to read about how the practice of dentistry came into existence and how it has changed over time. Due to the timing of this book, there is also an insight into how the pandemic has changed dentistry and the impact that has had on both individuals and business, as unlike many other parts of the health service dentists are businesses. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and had a giggle and learned a little along the way.

The Singing Dentist, Dr Milad Shadrooh is guaranteed to make your smile better, and all I can say is 'Yes' he does. I don't know why I picked to review this book as I have a dentist phobia, maybe I thought it might help me with going to the dentist (I'll tell you at the end of this if it has). I've really enjoyed reading this book. We are told why Dr Milad picked being a dentist and we hear the stories of his time at dentistry school. We are also told about his love of music and rapping. Dr Milad talks about the NHS v Private, the cost and how Covid hit dentistry. I said I would let you know if it would help with the dentist...no it didn't but I would still recommend it as a good read.

The Whole Tooth is a light-hearted memoir, sharing tales of his life in dentistry, some facts about the industry & your teeth and some of the stories from his dentist practice. The last one, in particular, is very moving.

This easy read is both a factual guide and a love letter to dentistry. It’s also very timely with today’s damming report about the state of NHS dentistry from the Commons’ Health and Social Care Committee. Throughout the book Dr Milad’s smile and positivity shines through, but he does also shares concerns about NHS dentistry.

Recently my ten daughter announced she wanted to be an influencer. I suggested the best way to do this was to be good at something and share that knowledge with others. Milad is a great example of an influencer who has achieved success because of his years of training rather than some other spurious reason. And let’s not forget his passion and talent for music, excellent eyebrows and the fact he seems like such a likeable guy!

A fantastic, entertaining book, which mixes autobiographical context with important dental hygiene tips, interesting facts and anecdotes, written in a very fun, humorous and entertaining style.
Also an important book to change the public's general perception of dentistry and emphasise the benefits of good oral hygiene.
I really enjoyed reading this book!

I've been a follower of 'The Singing Dentist' for a while now and love his parodies, so I just had to read this one!

From braces to jaw surgery, I am very familiar with visiting my dentist, but the anxiety before doesn't get any better...

From a bit of history to his journey with music, Dr Milad has definitely become my firm favourite dentist! I even had a few laughs along the way. I loved how he even included some of his patients' anecdotes too!

3 hours & 09 min long long audiobook narrated by him. I’m in my 4th year of dental school so I wanted to give this a read. My random thoughts: set in tehran, Iran. Omg his mothers family is from gilan, which is were my family is from. Gaaz forushan- Ive Heard a lot of cultures have this tradition but my family never did this 😭 explores his love of music & healthcare. Mentioned the Iran & Iraq war. Moved from Iran to UK at age of 5. How being a dentist is science, teacher, business person, & artist. It was interesting to see some of the past dental treatments before we had modern medicine. The Iranian prophecy of becoming a doctor/dentist, yuppp 😂Pejman who did a neuroscience degree before & was Iranian. Lol me with my prev psych, neuro & animal behaviour degree. Mentions alarming suicide rate in dentistry. I was shocked hyponisis was mentioned in class & I was surprised again when Milad mentioned it 😂 I actually worked in dental clinics in Canada during the Covid lockdown. We had air purifiers, the full PPE (personal protective equipment), & checked temp before entry. Got Covid vaccines sooner

Overall: I think both dentists & other would enjoy this book. It was fun to read it as a dental student and recognize things. But it’s in laymen’s terms & very easy & engaging to experience. I liked that he narrated it himself
