A large part of the book is in the form of small paragraphs in smaller fonts running throughout; read them only if you need references for law research. The remaining part of the book is full of anecdotes, behind the scene incidents in higher offices of the government. However, the book runs through the timeline of the events of post colonial era in India just like the biography of any other Indian lawyer till date. Overall a good read.
My Life: Law and other Things by Motilal Chimanlal Setalvad: The autobiography of M C Setalvad describes his life as the son of an lawyer of Bombay High Court. He attended Government College of Law, Mumbai and for practicing on the Original Side of Bombay High Court appeared in the written examination. The replies were checked by Chief Justice and he was allowed to start practice at Bombay High Court. He and his father appeared for various clients against each other in various cases. Later he was appointed the Attorney General of India and represented India before the Radcliffe Tribunal for partition of India. He represented India before UN on issue of Kashmir. He was appointed Chairman of First Law Commission of India. What I learn from this Book is that during the British rule, merit was highly important. Chief Justice found time to examine answer sheets also of aspirant Advocate who wished to practice on the original side of Bombay High Court . The book is worth reading
A very good book that a law student should read. It contains the most minute and sentimental issues a Judge, a Lawyer, has to face in his career. I did not read the full but would like to completee soon.
