The Old Pro Turkey Hunter

Rate this book
While it is probably true that any turkey hunter, young or old, will be a better turkey hunter after reading it. it could also be true, that even if the reader will learn to be a better turkey hunter, he may, if fact, actually kill fewer turkeys. How can this be? The fact is the old pro turkey hunters who march through the pages of this book are going to convince you that real turkey hunting doesn't always necessarily have to include a pile of feathers and blood. These old master turkey hunters hunted wild turkeys without having to abide by hunting seasons, bag limits, game wardens, or any other restrictions. They found that the real reward for successful turkey hunting lay in wining the battle, not necessarily exterminating the foe. This book is written as a message to the wild turkey hunters of America. We hope it will serve as a bond between the old pro turkey hunters of the past and the new generation of turkey hunters. The book deals with four old pro turkey hunters who spent over two hundred years trying to figure out the complex nature of the wild turkey. What a waste it would be to let slip from us the hard gained knowledge they acquired.

Have you ever wondered how a turkey’s eyesight is so good? Their eyesight is so good because their eyes are on the side of their heads and they have the ability to move their head 360 degrees. The book talks about how a turkey can see so well and how they can pick you out of your hide out spot. If you see a turkey you can read the book because it tells you the way they were acting and the face color. It is all about turkeys and turkey hunting.

The reason I liked the book is because I like to learn about turkeys and turkey hunting. The second reason I like this book is because I want to know as much about turkeys as I can. If you are not into this stuff it is not a good book for you. I will most likely read this book again because I want to gain knowledge about turkey hunting.

This is a very beautifully written book that accurately depicts the art of turkey hunting. This autobiography has essential information on turkey hunting. I recommend this book for every turkey hunter or person who wants to start turkey hunting. I will say, if you are not a hunter you will most likely not enjoy this book.

This story does not bore you to death with details. If a detail is in the story, it is important. Gene does an amazing job describing turkey behavior. As a hunter myself 95% of this story is an accurate representation of experiences you will face in nature while turkey hunting. The only thing I would discredit is the statement by Tony Mcleb that turkeys are curious. In my experience turkeys are more scared and cautious than curious. The reason they are scared is because ever since it was a little egg everything in the woods has been trying to eat it.

A Continued Tradition

A narrative of narratives continues the tradition of passing knowledge down from one generation to the next. The men that were telling the stories were born in the 19th Century, and what they learned and share is still relavant when you are in the turkey woods.

If you don't have experienced, wise turkey hunters to tell you turkey stories, then read this book. Some good tales, good characters, and several good lessons to somewhat satisfy that turkey-hunting longing we all have when we aren't in the woods.
