Alta Donna #3

Even for a Dreamer Like Me

Rate this book
Library books. They look so innocent and helpful. But did you know there’s a border keeping the world of stories apart from the real-life world? And that the border must be guarded at all times? Me neither! I know it now, that’s for sure. My friends Damiano and Inés crossed that border. They escaped from a book into my quiet, perfect little town of Alta Donna. And boy, did they bring trouble with them.

Now it’s up to me to save the town, save my friends, and fix the damage to both worlds. At last my storytelling and dreams will come in handy!

Perfino i disegni son brutti come pochi. SIGH!

Va beh, speriamo che il prossimo fumetto sia meglio...

Reason for Reading: Next & last in the series.

Wow. A fantastic ending to this charming, whimsical trilogy! I'm not going to give away too much on plot but previous events have lead to Alta Donna being in serious risk of survival and Nola finds out that her daydreaming has lead her to become a good storyteller thus the one who may be able to save not Alta Donna but the world where her friends Damiano and Ines have come from as well. I'm still not letting on what the ferrets are all about but they are major characters in this final volume and everything is all finally brought together. One can simply believe the ending as it is or one can ponder on the events and wonder, if anything, is really real.

The characters are wonderful and one falls in love with them right away. During the course of the three books they grow, develop and mature. There are believable, real, faulty characters. Nola is a terrific heroine but I think my favourite overall character was Damiano. The strange boy from another world who has super agility abilities, so obviously has a crush on Nola (which is is mutual) that it is cute! A darling trilogy that will be a keeper on my shelves!

In this last volume we finally go back to the mystery that started it all. What happened to the librarian? We do get a little bit more of Pumpkin in this book.

I like this book a lot. It shows that Nola's creativity and craziness does have a place in the world. I thought it was a great happy ending to this series. I do kind of wish Nola's adventures could have continued, particularly since I would have like to have continued to see her grow rather then be told she has grown as the author had to do since they were ending the trilogy.

It's a fun series with a great message and gorgeous illustrations.

What a great message this series, but especially this last volume, gives to young readers: it's important to have an imagination and express yourself, both things Nola never stopped having or doing.

Some of the plot was a bit too much of a coincidence (Nola "knowing" about the Ferrets running Alta Donna and even existing in the first place) but it wasn't enough to ruin the experience of reading it. It was also nice to have some dangling threads to the plot taken care of, even if it did feel a bit rushed.

A great series for 4th-7th grade girls and as always, the coloring and images were soft, inviting, and great in their detail.

I was a little disappointed in the ending, and overall, I was not a fan of the main character or how she treated her mom. My favorite thing about these books was the art, and the coloring was beautiful and vibrant.

Satisfying ending to the series (I think that it has ended, though the author did leave it so that there could be more, hmmm). Wouldn't mind reading more; glad it ended the way it did. Happiness.
