At various times, British author Peter Cave has been a reporter and an newspaper editor and a magazine editor. He is best known in literary circles for the number of novelizations he has done for television shows.
Pretty decent British crime vigilante team book. A mysterious organization recruits former cops who have been removed from the force due to excessive violence. Are team consists of:
Crane-Are gateway character. We are introduced to him as he beats the living shit out of a religious nut who viciously killed a prostitute.
Cornish-Army vet who has a few screws loose. Not afraid to get his hands dirty. Bomb expert.
Lake-The big brute of the bunch.
Babsley-Police boxing champion who beat the shit out of his superintendent when he learned he was taking bribes.
Jelly-Babsley’s rescued police dog who has a good nose for explosives. Was sent to be put down when he attacked a trainer who was mistreating him.
They are put together to stop a terrorist group called Anarchy who are bombing bars and clubs and kidnapping wealthy individuals. The group is giving no reason on what their motives are. Are new team has to bust some heads and bend some rules to find out who they are and what their end game is.
The book is pretty action packed and violent. I liked the chemistry between Crane and Cornish. The other team members are not as fleshed out. Plus Jelly really doesn’t get much to do. This was supposed to be the start of a series, but it must not have taken off because we are one and done. The book raps up everything and doesn’t end on a cliffhanger so it can be read as a stand alone.
