This is a great book for reading to Early Years or Year 1 children. It is the story of Daisy, who becomes a superhero to save the Earth from attack from Planet Pea. The story is a simple one but lots of fun for children to read.
There are great illustrations to go with the fun story, so children are engaged when they are reading this. This is a book that I would have for reading during carpet time, where the whole class can join in reading out loud the text. This may also be used with a superhero topic or story that you are writing. But I personally would just keep this to improving their reading, whether with the class as a whole or independently on their own.
As I have discovered through the previous book of Daisy - Daisy does not like peas.
This story is all about how Planet Pea which threatens to collide with Earth; Daisy must do something, to stop peas being on her plate with every meal.
The inventive layout includes lift the flaps, sliding panels, pop up, which all help to engage the reader/listener and keeps the story moving at an action packed pace. The illustrations are bright and change into cartoon magazine style when Daisy is being a superhero – saving the Earth from peas!
It is refreshing to have a superhero that is a female. The book helps to reinforce aspects that are associated with being a superhero such as costume, super powers. This book was used in conjunction with the class topic and literacy activities.
Recently we did the topic of Superheroes but I found it very difficult to find a book, other than a comic, to link to the topic. But Super Daisy thankfully came to the rescue. From the writer of ‘Eat Your Peas’ comes another pea adventure. The Earth is in danger of being hit by Pea Planet and if this catastrophe happens all the food on Earth will be covered with peas. Daisy hates peas and definitely doesn’t want this to happen so she quickly transforms into her superhero costume and flies to Earth’s rescue. But is she successful in getting rid of all the peas?? This is a very enjoyable book to read with reception and beyond.
It's surprisingly tricky to find superhero books for Early Years, and even more difficult to find superhero books for mighty girls. Super Daisy to the rescue! Super Daisy hates peas, and this book is full of them, thanks to inventive pull-the-tabs, and cut outs. Planet Pea is on a collision course, and only Super Daisy can save the day. This book never stays on our shelves for very long.
Just a short story about a girl who is a super hero and fights off planet pea. Nice pull out section for children to enjoy. Great colourful images as well. I just hope that it does not put my daughter off peas!
My placement class really enjoyed this story. As they are only 5 and 6 years old, there are some tricky words in there that need help with their meaning.
They loved creating talk for writing strategies. Very useful in a superheroes theme.
