Fantastic detailed non-political insight from a man in the military from 1943 to 1984. Forty-one years of service that culminated in CINCNORAD (commander-in-chief North American aerospace defense command) and founding Air Force Space Command. Although the book could have used another edit, the material memorialized by a man from WWII through Vietnam is priceless. Above all, he never took a minute off in defending this great country of ours. Includes much about chain-of-command, rank, orders, leadership, involvement, energy, military bases, and the planes used in this era.
I received a used copy of this book as a gift and I really wanted to like it, but the author comes off as arrogant and unlikeable, and by the end I was so bored I started skimming pages at a time. Tough to make a 4-star career boring...but General Hartinger did just that
