Johnny O’Malley is a man with a past. He’s always buried his demons beneath his fighting, so nobody would ever know how truly messed up he is.
He turned over a new leaf when he took on the role of Grace’s trainer, swearing he’d never fight again. This last year has been his road to redemption.
With his training and loyal devotion to making her the best, Johnny has helped mold Grace into one of the best fighters in the UFC. She is going to take on the current title holder for her shot at winning the belt.
The problem? The girl who currently holds the title has a past that haunts Johnny. He sees himself in her, while she stirs up all his old monsters.
Could the person with the key to freeing him from his past be the same person who holds the key to Grace’s future?
By finding his happiness, could he be betraying the one person he has vowed to protect? What will Johnny do when his present and future collide, and only one can be the victor?
Saved by Grace is Book 2 in the Grace Series by Carsen Lane, featuring Johnny’s story. Johnny forced himself to stop fighting, because he felt the darkness taking over and didn’t want to become the monster who had trained him, and he no longer needed to fight in order to provide for his sister and himself. He had officially hit his rock bottom, when his best friend/brother-in-law Stephan offered him the opportunity to train Grace, who proved to be the breathe of fresh air he needed—a path to redemption, a way to use his skill for good. But what do you do when your loyalty is tested? When you meet someone who calls to you on a soul level, but she is your fighter’s opponent… Do you exploit her obvious weakness, or sacrifice the friend who saved you in order to protect the woman who might be your future?
The world building is still great, as with the last book, the characters draw you in right away. Both Johnny and Rose’s stories were emotional, authentic, and heart-wrenching! But I’m probably in the minority in that they felt too similar to me to be together. I wanted them to both get an HEA, but not with each other. Even Johnny’s sister gave a perfect analogy about dust and water making concrete, that would work if he were with Grace. 😂 When Johnny and Rose were finally progressing to a romantic relationship, the scenes would fade out. Then, in the scenes with Grace and Sabrina, they still don’t seem to have chemistry together. What I loved about the book was the personal evolution of Rose and the way that she was able to free herself from her past enough to find a passion that helps others and to be able to trust more people. I loved Grace in this book, and the way she exudes her name and extends grace to others in surprising ways. While this book addresses difficult topics, they are handled with sensitivity and grace. I also appreciated the injection of humor in this book to counter some of the heavy. Kiko is a riot, and I’m crossing my fingers that she is back for Dar’s book!
I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Johnny gave up fighting before he was lost in darkness, and these days he's training Grace to get a title, but there's one big problem, she's fighting someone from his past that has left some scars that haunt him to this day. Rose & Johnny both have a past that was really emotional, but I'm still torn about some things that I'm not going to reveal here in this review LOL! I will say that it felt like my heart was in my throat the whole way through, and not because of fear or excitement but because of the overpowering pain that seeped out of my kindle making me want to hug everyone involved, and I'm not a hugger whatsoever. I did love Rose, and her development was nothing short of amazing but again, I'm still conflicted for my very personal reasons. I will say that Carsen Lane has some serious writing chops that kept me turning the pages as I felt every last thing, and I'm definitely excited for more in the future! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This is the second book in this incredible series. Johnny feels he has redeemed himself training Grace to become a successful UFC fighter that she is, ready to take on the current title holder. The current title holder and Johnny have a past which haunts him still. Will Johnny be able to overcome his demons? Will Grace get her shot at the title? This is a well written emotional roller coaster, with challenges, redemption, family, friendships, survival, trust, twists, and is a riveting and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I was so excited for Johnny’s story after reading the first book in this series, Caging Grace! And I loved Johnny’s story! Actually I loved it and hated it just because it was so difficult to read about where Johnny came from even though we got little tidbits of it in the previous book. We know that Johnny owes Grace so much, for saving him and leading his life down a better path. And we get lots more of Grace and Johnny interactions in this book, which I love! And in this book Johnny meets someone who awakens feelings in him he thought he wasn’t capable of. We get more Maria, Stefan, Dar, and more! This series is a must read! ~Alexis💜
Next up is Johnny's story! And it was just as good as book one's story! I also loved catching up with Grace. Johnny's backstory was heartbreaking and difficult to read at some points. He is the true definition overcoming your past and making a better life for yourself!
Fantastic job with this book and I cant wait for more.
Five amazing stars! I loved Saved by Grace as the second full length novel in the series. It not only tells Johnny's story, but also we meet and learn about Rose (Grace's competitor) and in some ways it's just as much her story. I really enjoyed visiting Johnny's past to find out how and why he turned out to be the man he is today, along with how his demons came about. I really enjoyed diving deeper into the relationship Johnny has with his sister and brother in law. Told in alternating viewpoints from Johnny and Rose, the story progresses from Caging Grace and we still have the characters we met and loved in that book. Saved by Grace was very emotional and gave me all the feels.
