I really really liked this book and am adding it to my favorites. I thought maybe this would be one of those hot steamy beach reads that didn't require much thought, but i was wrong. I didn't 'require' thought, but it did evoke it none-the-less. The protagonists were both emotionally untouchable, but you soon realize that Jodi is so much deeper than one would think. I really found myself feeling bad for, and routing for her throughout the book. Eve didn't have any depth, but then perhaps she did, but we didn't get to see it. Since that's who she is, a person that hides it all so well...

The writing was skillful; no blaring grammatical mistakes, typos, run-on sentences. No absurd amount of tacky cliche's or repetitive endearments. It was a quick easy read. Though i had to stop reading a couple times toward the end just because i didn't want it to end and wanted to drag it out.

Yes, there was abundant erotic scenes, so be warned if you are faint of heart. But i didn't think it made the book shallow and didn't seem gratuitous. Not if you pay attention to the thoughts and emotions that were going through each person's head at the time and what it meant for the possible outcome.

Probably what i liked most about this story, was its unpredictability. Most romance novels, you know the two main characters are going to ride off into the sunset by the end. This one, you really have no idea if it's going to work out for either of them. (and i'm not telling, buy the book)

I put this in the high 3s somewhere...3.85/3.9.

The book basically reads like porn with plot. It's well done for what it is.

Lexi is the superiorly attractive butch that everyone lusts after and happens to be a phone sex operator / high-end escort. Eve is the superiorly attractive femme that everyone lusts after that is a high-end fashion designer. Both are wealthy...so we're already getting into fantasy realm here. Just go with it.

Eve knows Lexi as her phone sex mistress but she doesn't know that Jodi, her fantasy come true in real life, is Lexi. Jodi/Lexi knows it's Eve...her Eve. Chicanery ensues.

I felt like the story flowed, dialogue was good, characters were entertaining even if they weren't the deepest...for a "romance" it's on the cruder side both in language and in narrative. Jodi is falling for Eve and that comes across. But, for Eve, both Lexi and Jodi exist at a more physical level as a way to get sexual release...as if she has an itch that needs to be scratched..desperately.

There doesn't seem to be much heart in it for Eve except for the fact that she's disturbed by her obsession with "a voice" (aka Lexi). It's not until the very end that we see a softer side of Eve come out that brings the story into the realm of romance. This is actually the arc of Eve's character, though, so that makes sense...it just doesn't make for the most romantic read. We do get some warm fuzzy moments at the end.

It's a satisfying guilty pleasure read.

I read it despite the cover, by which you can judge this book. The writing, romance, characters, plot...when existent, weren't all bad, but I wouldn't say any of them were good. But maybe I'm just not a phone-sex operator and fashion designer kind of person. The sex was there and well...yeah...I read the whole thing!

One thing I wasn't thrilled about was the excessive butch/femme dynamic. It felt like it was written as a straight book, and at the last minute, the guy was changed into a butch dyke.

That aside, this book taught me that I enjoy reading smut in public as it kept me occupied on my bus commute this last week. I caught someone reading along beside me one day in the middle of a sex scene...but of course half the book is a sex scene.

23/08/2020: Wow!!! I loved this book from beginning to end. So so good. The chemistry between the two main characters... HOT DAMN!! And all that secrecy from Jodi’s part had me anxious but also excited. It was a very bombastic explosion of feelings. I loved it! The only thing I didn’t like that much was how abrupt the ending was. I mean, I loved it and how it was kind of poetic with them kissing in the rain, but I wanted to read more. What happened when they went into the hotel room, their future plans and how they will make it work between them. I just wanted to read more because I feel in love with both of them and just need more lol simple as that. Hope there’s a short book in the future just so we can see how this awesome couple is doing hehe 100% recommend! Without a doubt a great book that has it all.

26/12/2021 (reread): Hot damn indeed!! And also endearing and heart-warming 🥰 loved rereading this one.

Larkin Rose has a rep for writing sizzling romances, but "Kiss the Rain" is her hottest yet. Phone sex, lesbian escort (read that as butch on call), chance meeting, hot sex, sweet ending. It's the author's usual concise tale, fast pace and some of the most provocative scenes she's written. I finished it, and immediately went back to read the best scenes over again.

Well, sometimes you just need some smut. Read this from late last night (early this morning) and finished today. A new one day record 🤣

------ A more in depth summary below-----

My first Larkin Rose story and I was comforted by sex positive, lesbian characters. There wasn't any turmoil over being gay or enjoying sex and that was a breath of fresh air.
Yes there are sex scenes, but it doesn't feel gratuitous or bad. It's sexy, it's a part of the story but not overwhelming it, it fits as sex should in anyone's life.
The ending is a too-good-to-be-true happy ending where anywhere else you'd call it cheesy but after experiencing our main characters (Eve and Jodi) it fits perfectly and you're happy for their ending (or is that beginning?)

Loved this book! But it feels like just the beginning for them! The sex is amazing and the characters are great, I hope you make another story of Jodi and Eve!

In this story Larkin Rose has created two awesome leading women who in their own way tower over everyone. Being human, they naturally have some incredibly doozy idiosyncrasies or deficiencies from certain perspectives, but they primarily light up the sky. Additionally, they are both really at the top of their game within their own principal activities. Plus, they have right from the start a flabbergastingly intimate relationship with no face-to-face contact but a super hot sexual venue. That situation morphs into an amazing parallel story arc. I was truly dazed at the beginning and continued to be astounded throughout the novel. Even if I didn’t totally love the ending I can, without a doubt, recommend this book for the extraordinary strength and stunning depth that each noteworthy woman presented to me over and over again. Transcendent!

Eve Harris is a prodigious and sublime world famous fashion designer. If I had to work for her I would be in either a mental institution within a week and/or moribund. The whirlwind nature of this industry is by and large hard to comprehend for an outsider. Yet Eve not only excels in this business, she is an out-of-this world designer and creator of cutting-edge and sensationally stylish ensembles year after year. Her business takes a toll on everyone, but especially Eve. Yet, no one is the wiser as to how she continually outshines her competition. The fact of the matter is, she is simply brilliant at her craft. Every year during the major fashion weeks in London, Paris, and New York, her shows shine above everyone else’s. It seems like this can be a very lonely life, but Eve seems to be tuned into the perfect complement for this non-stop on-the-go lifestyle. The opening of the book introduces us to her secret solution. Startling!

Jodi avoided foster care and much worse by ingenious youthful finagling and finally by becoming a sex phone operator and then an even more adept escort whose hourly fee just continued to skyrocket. Jodi went from being a street urchin to a very rich and sought after purveyor of extremely high-class sexual favors, so to speak. As Lexi, her sex phone operator pseudonym par excellence, she only has three clients left as she winds down that part of her repertoire. One of her clients is Eve and early on when Jodi, working with her best friend Amelia for Eve Harris, knows Lexi's Eve and Amelia's boss are one and the same person. Oh my goodness...these two generate such fireworks and it just gets hotter each night. It is as if one or both want to burn themselves out before the week in London ends. Oh my goodness!

Jodi is a lover of rain and inadvertently shares her passion for walking in the rain with Eve. Rain becomes an additional linking element between Eve and Lexi/Jodi. As much as both women look at the one week in London's off-the-charts sexual play as a very short-term event, there is buried deep inside both of them a completely different agenda. I was baffled, a bit astounded about the how, and really delighted when the conclusion was rather different than what I expected. It sent me soaring and believing in miracles. This book is like ambrosia and a nearly perfect kiss among Eve, Jodi, and the rain. Incredibly satisfying!

THIS BOOK HAD SUCH POTENTIAL, ALAS.

I fairly enjoyed first 30% of the book but it quickly went downhill after that. The plot turned out to be pretty slow-moving, characters were one-dimensional, and sex scenes were not written as well as I hoped they would, amongs many other things.

The book in its entirety really disappointed me in terms of not showing any growth or development in the characters. They didn't do much throughout the book that would explain them getting to the mindset they had towards the end of the book. The author kept telling us how they felt and what they were thinking instead of showing us why and how. Sometimes I found her writing to be pretty distracting from what was going on in the scene, she would use questionable comparisons. e.g. the way one character was eating out another character being compared to her sucking on a pacifier? WEIRD. Please do not put that image in my head when I'm reading smut. Other times I would have a feeling she had forgotten what she had written on a previous page and get distracted by the inconsistency. Overall, I just don't think the book was edited well, most of the scenes really looked like first sketches or drafts.

I was not a fan of the author using the words 'depression' and 'anorexia' lightly for simply describing the states of mind. That was pretty tone-deaf. The book was published in 2011 so I'm guessing it is not that suprising. Nevertheless, the fact that the straight supporting character used LGBTQ-related slurs really irked me.

Overall, I did not HATE this book. I feel like the it was really promising and I really wish the plot and characters were not as one-dimensional as they were.

1.5-2/5 stars.

While mostly an erotica it has a surprisingly sweet romance with it. I loved jodi so much she was so real to me.Eve was frustrating because she totally didn't know what she wanted. I just wanted to shake her and tell her work isn't everything. Fortunately she does eventually get that.
Eve has this idea that love is a waste off time and she can't fit it into her career. For kicks she uses her sex phone operapter lexi. It's like if she had a pin pal she was in love with but then that pen pal meets her without her knowing. Eve is suprised at there connection. I don't.want to go to much further but despite the strange circumstances I bought the romance. There is enough time and pacing for them to fall in love. The sex scenes are inventive and spicy.

Strangely, this story didn't have me panting in heat like her others, but that doesn't mean it wasn't hot.

Rose really knows how to write women who get under my skin and on my last nerve. Argh! I was fuming at Eve for treating Lexi/Jody that way after finding out the truth. Geeze, it's not like Eve was prefect. This book not only had me pulling my hair in frustration, but it also had me panting away like a wolf starved for food. OMG! The intimate scenes paired with the yummy Jody... HOT!

Another scorcher, and that's saying a lot because her other books were even hotter.

Meh was the first word that came to mind when I finished this book.

None of it was particularly bad... But none of it was particularly good, either.

The characters were pretty one dimensional with little growth much as the author tried to tell (not show) is otherwise. The storyline is there but predictable as hell. The minor characters lack depth and are unlivable. The pwoar scenes were fine enough but far from the best I've ever read.

Meh.

It was definitely hot and steamy!
But this was not enough to make it a great book.
No waste of time, but not of the quality to add to my collection.

This book has some sexy moments. Eve Harris is a busy fashion designer who doesn't have time for a real relationship. The relationship she does have with a British phone sex operator, Lexi, is perfect for her life. No one makes her come like Lexi does. Fashion week brings Eve to London, where she can't stop thinking of Lexi, but it's Jodi she meets instead. Jodi is a professional escort, but Eve doesn't know that

Jodi and Eve have an immediate connection Jodi and Eve spend several blistering nights together as fashion week continues on, even as Eve feels increasingly desperate to reconnect with Lexi.

The story is satisfying with plenty of very hot moments, but this story never quite pulled me in.

I didn’t read the summary and had no idea what I was in for. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. I couldn’t stop reading and with every page I turned, Jodi stole another piece of my heart right down to the final chapter of Eve tracking her down and reuniting them. I wish there was more because I’m not yet ready to let these two go.

This was some hot book. I loved that Eve knew what she wanted, and didn't hesitate to go for it, be it in her private life or professional life. Although people tend to hate on that trait, I think it makes people the go-getters they achieve to be in life.

I admiredJodi's conviction in her job. She was not ashamed of it, and it had brought her out of a dark hole in her life. But it was bound to catch up with her sooner or later, especially for someone who was in the public eye like she was, and who still hopeful for a happily ever after.

The two honestly made me break a sweat and I'm happy I came across it.

I'm giving this book 4 stars. It was hot, steamy and a fun read. Jodi and Eve had a wonderful dynamic. The attraction and chemistry was there but this book is more erotic than romantic, really.

I must say that when things came to a head and secrets were revealed, I felt both characters' pain. It was an angsty section to be sure.

This book loses points because of a weak ending. Eve needed to give MORE. Or at least GIVE more to Jodi at the end. Her internal thoughts were there but she needed to open up just a bit more in my estimation and give Jodi the "declaration she (Jodi) had hoped for" because Jodi deserved it. But she didn't, and therefore it makes the book a bit shallow as a romance.

Mostly all the points go to the sex scenes in the book. I think maybe a 3.75 stars is more accurate but I was feeling generous because I did enjoy it, just disappointed with the ending.

You can't start reading this book and expect to be the romance of the year, where you'll suffer and love the love between the main characters and etc.. This one is pure erotica. It´s my first book of the Author and I must say that the sex scenes is HOT. Although, just it. The plot is simple and the ending is rushed. In the end? Well... it was a good reading.

Hope you like it erotic

This book was good, but a little too much on the erotic side for me. If you like books that are more on the romantic side with genuine love making, this book may not be for you, but if you like it hot and hard then this is right up your alley.
