Not necessarily a thrill to read, but hands down the best reference I have ever used for mastering colloquial Portuguese grammar and syntax. Should be read completely, ploddingly, and thoughtfully. I averaged about five pages per day for three months. Loved the ubiquitous examples for each grammar concept. Valeu John!
Muito legal. Eu aprendei tanto.
MODERN BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE GRAMMAR: A PRACTICAL GUIDE is a great book for people who would like to refresh their grammar and for beginners who would like a better foundation when it comes to grammar. Personally, I wouldn't recommend focusing on grammar when you're new to a language, conversation and reading comprehension are more important. I love how this book is very detailed, the explanations are easy to understand. I don't really like all of the exercises, but you can't have it all. I highly recommend this book to beginners and people who already know the language. But don't forget to work on your listening comprehension and conversation skills.
A useful blend of a typical grammar for the first half of the book going over verb forms, syntax, clause structure, pronouns, etc. The second half focuses on Communication skills and has chapters dedicated to topics such as connecting clauses and conjunctions. This grammar is very useful for advanced studies since it not only informs you of different options of word choice, but also tells you whether one is used in informal situations such as casual conversations verses more formal settings, and there are several useful references for using Brazilian Portuguese in Business. These nuances help readers to gain proficiency in both colloquial and written Brazilian Portuguese with greater precision.
