Some of these reviews are going to be repetitive, but I challenged myself to do one for every book that I have read so here we go:
I had fun reading these books. I think the games are so much fun. At least one story out of the ten has stumped me. (sometimes more than 10) I live for the puns. The characters are crazy, in good and bad ways. I wish Mr. Body was my friend, cause I wouldn't kill him. And poor Mr. Body almost dies, like, all the time.
Honestly this was a riot. It's 10 short mystery whodunits that can be solved with logic elimination like the board game. Each mystery involves Mr. Boddy who somehow manages to avoid death after several murder attempts, as well as the regular Clue cast of suspects, weapons, and locations. Everything is so over the top in the must fun way. From plane crashes to monopoly tournaments, the setups are just as fun as solving. An easy breezy afternoon read, and you can probably pick up a copy for under $5 on a used book site.
Whoever ghostwrote this Clue edition had a wacky sense of humor and seemed to have fun writing the stories almost in the vein of the characters from the classic 'Clue' movie. I loved it!
...And suddenly, with this edition, the cover illustrations are changed, forcing them to look just like the 1992 board game cover editions. Not a major difference, just a slightly jarring one for the first few editions, as Scarlet becomes Asian, White gets far older, and Peacock slimmer and more genteel.
That said, this is largely a forgettable tome in the series, a rare lownote in the stellar first ten.
The characters are fun and entertaining throughout the book. There is tons of humor that kept me thoroughly entertained as a child. I love whodunit books and trying to figure out the various mysteries and this collection of tales certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Okay, these books are definately a guilty pleasure, but they are written in such a specific weird and unique way... unfortunately the whodunnits are too easy.
