Once again she's back! Keisha Ervin that is, with her spellbinding tale of love, family, money and scandal. In this sizzling new story, Keisha introduces you to Mina Matthews. Mina is not your typical around-the-way girl; her dreams of making a life for herself outside the hood are now a reality. At the age of 25, she has her own full service salon, Mina's Joint, drives a CLK55 and is engaged to Andrew, the son of the Mayor of St. Louis. To most, she has it all. But everything that glitters ain't gold. Mina's life is turned upside down when the man of her dreams and childhood sweetheart, Victor Gonzalez, re-enters her life. Suddenly everything that she thought was true is now a lie. Will her loyalty to Andrew overshadow her love for Victor or will the pasts of these two men bring her life to an end?
Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Keisha Ervin is a prolific writer and devoted mother. Her success has drawn much deserved attention to herself and her hometown. She is the author of the National Best-Sellers Chyna Black, Me & My Boyfriend, Mina's Joint and Hold U Down, as well as the novel Torn and the short story After the Storm, featured in the Street Love anthology.
4.5 rounded up First read by this author, will not be the last. Likeable characters and the bad guys were really despisable. Hard to put this one down, some parts were a bit predictable but others just blindsided me. Really enjoyed the interactions with characters and witty conversations.
"How can i marry him when i don't wanna be in the same room as him?" -Mina in Mina's Joint
Mina is young black and successful. She is 25 yrs old, ownwer of Mina's Joint Salon and currently engaged to the mayors son Andrew Wellington. The Wellington's are a well known wealthy family in St.Louis, Mina's family lives in the hood. And they are very hood in every stereo typical way.
Mina is not happy with Andrew and she wants to leave him; Andrew is a cocky uptight A-hole. He also has this issue with his hands with balling up his fist and hitting Mina. Mina should leave right? Problem is Andrew has his name on everything the house, the car and the salon. While out at the club with her Best friend Mo, Mina is spotted by the owner Victor Gonzalaz.
Victor is tall, sexy and dangerous. Victor asks Mina out but she turns him down. But the two end up together and have sex. Mina thinks to herself "ok, one night and that's it". But one night turns into many. Victor knows Mina is unhappy in her relationship so he tells her to leave Andrew, Mina is hesitant because she knows she would walk away with nothing. What's a girl to do?!?
I enjoyed Victor and Mina's love story. I really like Ms. Ervin's writing Style. The twist at the end was crazy! And Andrew was such a punk, among other things....
My Ratings Characters- Likable and Witty Writing Style- Good Plot/Storyline- Enjoyable with nice twist and turns Overall- A Goodread!
I had heard so much about this book that I finally decided to read. Let's just say that recommendation was on point. From the very beginning I couldn't stand Andrew he was so disrespectful and Mina didn't deserve it. The crew at the shop is a whole mess and that Delicious is some thing elese. You can feel the family environment through the the book with Mina's stylist they had her back no matter what. They definitely help her with taking care of Andrew. Now Rita and Bernice had me in tears. The 2 of them have no filter and that talent show scene had me on the floor. Now for that Fine Vicotor, that man could do no wrong and I was rooting for him. I understood and was extremely shocked on how he handle things after what happen. However true love is deeper and when the soul and the heart are connected there is no turning away.
I had high expectations for this book because I love Keisha Ervin, but the book was not that good to me. It held my attention for a few parts and then completely didn't have my attention for a lot of other parts. I'm glad I read it and got it out of the way, but I won't be reading it again and will be getting rid of my copy.
Here it is 2017 and I"m just now reading a book that came out in 2001 and has since been dubbed an urban classic. I loved this read...it was fast paced...full of drama and suspense....and had some great sex scenes. I bet when this book first came out it was even more amazing but now it seems like a lot of urban books have plots like this so I wasn't as impressed as I would have been back when it originally came out. Mina Matthews is the owner of Mina's Joint, the most popping hair salon in St. Louis She is set to wed the Mayor's son but their picture perfect relationship has a lot of secrets only Mina knows about and she's tired of it. Victor, her childhood love, comes back into her life at a time when she is at her wit's end and now she is faced with the dilemma: follow her heart or stay with the man who saved her from the Hood?
I chose the rating five because the story kept me treat I've started to read all of her books especially a started with 1st wives club And then gray and cam story And now I'm home this story mine is joint But I think I read them out of order but that's okay because I'm gonna go back and read them in order
Man, this book was tugging at my feelings. It had many plot twists that I wasn't expecting at all. I loved it! Every character got what they deserved. I found out there is a part 2 I'm scared to read it lol. I have a feeling it's going to be crazier than this first book.
I love me some Mina and victor one of my favorite books i can read this a million times and still fall in love with it. Victor is so damn sexy i can’t even explain it and the love be have for Mina shows. Great book
This one was back in the day when I used to snatch up any & EVERY BOOK released by TRIPLE CROWN PUBLISHINGS! WOW, FOND MEMORIES BITD! Unfortunately, I failed to get this one But I heard that it was good though.
This was an awesome read, I really enjoyed the storyline. I recommend this read to anyone who enjoys reading. Looking forward to reading more of her books.
Story: GOOD Intimacy Level: VERY VERY GOOD Enjoyment: GOOD Length: 260 pages
THOUGHTS
I actually, read Torn before Mina's Joint so I was familiar with Mina. But reading her story, wow, what drama awaits her. The moment she made eye contact with Victor, it was sexy. Hell, Victor was down right sexy and I just wanted to keep reading about him, not that jerk Andrew. Mina is running her business and is engaged to the mayor's son. With a public image to uphold Mina tries her best to deny her feelings for Victor, a drug lord. Victor and Mina grew up together and lost touch, now that he is back, he is no joke and wants Mina at any cost. That man is too fine, I know he is just a character in a book but a little bad boy mix with good does a book right.
Mina's friends did not disappoint, and when you put Delicious(too funny) and Mo together in a room watch out. They made the read for me enjoyable as well. As the story starts to unfold whats done in the dark starts to come to the light and it changes everyone's life. In the end, do I feel sorry for Andrew and his family? I wouldn't even spit on them if they were on fire.
I don't expect any different from Keisha Ervin book. That girl can write a good urban lit book. You have sex, lies, drugs, politics and crazy friends, doesn't get anymore enjoyable than that.
I’ve read this book throughout the years and it is really is one of the best urban fiction novels . The laughs , the drama, the romance , and of course drugs dramatic sex scenes and designer clothing it hits everytime . This was when triple crown was dropping the BEST urban fiction novels back to back -one critique Is the Audio for the singing parts and some of victors dialogue - that was kind of weird and off but this is Keisha at her best . A hood classic but I hate the new cover art work - the pink and white cover is the best now I’m ready to re read hold you down - unique and Biggs toxic relationship was one of my favorites lol me and my boyfriend and TORNNNNNNNN !! The girls that know early Keisha catalogue knowwwwww lol but I’m scared grown me won’t enjoy it like little me did all those years ago .
I absolutely love this novel. Mina's Joint is a page-turner. I enjoyed the characters & the plotline. The characters in this novel & the trials they endure/overcome can really help so many young ladies going through the same situations; it can even serve as a guide for young women who may encounter such issues in their interpersonal relationships. Great book!
I really liked this book because it was a good love story. I really could feel the love between Mina and her beau. It had some drama in it but i wouldnt say this book was based on the drama. I liked it. It was well put together and the love was so clear to see. Maybe I'm just a sucker for real love!
OMG . This is a M U S T R E A D * I read this book over night , & I loved every second. Best urban book I've Read so Far . I feel somewhat lucky to have read this book & feel kinda sorry for those who haven't :-P I love Mina & Victor's relationship it even had me second guessing my own LOL . anywho Those who haven't read this book you are sure MISSING OUT**
Yet again Keisha Ervin didn't let me down! I fell in love with Mina and Victor! I'm just a hopeless romantic and I love love stories! I hated Andrew and he go what he deserved! I liked the ending but it left me wondering if she is ever going to write a sequel or wrote a sequel to this book! I want more!
