I really enjoyed this story it clicked so many of my boxes:
✅ High school setting = youthful love
✅ A “pretending to be straight” ML
✅ One bed trope
✅ Rivals → friends → lovers
✅ Smart and funny main characters
It’s lighthearted and funny, sweet but with surprising depth. On top of that, all the side characters were lovable, and they even have their own books (Why Don’t You Coax Me? and After The Actor Made a Match For Me, He Died Out of Jealousy).
I’m planning to continue reading them, though I’m debating whether to dive in right away or save them as lighter reads between heavier ones. Either way, this one definitely left me wanting more.
It could have made my “Best of 2025” list and been a 5-star read, but I didn’t cry. I’m an emotions monster I feed on feelings. If a book doesn’t make me live through the full spectrum of emotions, it stays a very good read… but not quite my best read.
That being said, it’s absolutely on my “MLs I’d expand the family tree with” list, because we need more of this bloodline out there 👉🏻👈🏻
