In Hotel Bertram is duidelijk de headliner in deze bundel, fantastisch beschreven sfeer en mooi verhaal, at alleen in de laatste paginas totaal onderuit word gehaald door het veel te ingewikkeld te (willen) maken.
Wie adverteert een moord grossiert in stereotypen maar is nog steeds een vermakelijk verhaal met een mooi probleem en einde.
De kortere verhalen in deze bundel zijn helaas niet van het niveau zoals in andere bundel

In deze vijfling onderzoekt Miss Marple een aantal ingewikkelde verhalen, waarbij 'Wie adverteert een moord!' en 'Hotel Betram' de meest aangrijpende zijn.
In 'Wie adverteert een moord!' wordt een advertentie in de krant gezet met de aankondiging van een moord in het huis van een gerespecteerde dame. Wat eerst lijkt op een domme grap, escaleert in een echte moord, die een heel complexe geschiedenis met zich meebrengt die enkel Miss Marple zou kunnen oplossen.
In 'Hotel Betram' verblijft Miss Marple in een bekend hotel. In het, op het eerste zich, rustig hotelletje verblijven vooral oude dames en heren, totdat een bekende avonturierster verschijnt.
