not bad. not good but not bad.

Sea of Dreams was another classic apocalypse story where there's a desperate search to find other people in a world where the MC is left alone. (That makes me want to reread Angelfall hehe). The MC wasn't a bad characters, I guess, she was relatable and she may of been a bit annoying but it wasn't too bad. The other characters were also pretty good and entertaining, not I'll-remember-them-forever characters, but not I'll-remember-them-forever-because-I-hate-them characters either. All in all, not a bad book, and one that kept me happy enough.

Thanks to Amazon Kindle and the author for the free book!

Well, that was fun! Though, I suppose the subject matter: dystopia, life after almost all human life has disappeared from the planet wouldn't be considered 'fun' in anyone's book. Unless you are a sci-fi/fantasy buff, that is. And fantasy does play a big part in what happens next.

Still, the author explores the extent of emotions a person might have being the one left behind. Alone, the main character, Sophie, a 17-year-old, tries to find her father or anyone. She goes through an awful time but her thoughts draw the reader in and keep them engaged. I could have done with a lot more of the inventiveness that would have to emerge from that lonely, survival kind of life. That would have been a whole different kind of book.

Meanwhile, get ready for bad guys that don't die, pixies, Nessie and her babies, etc. Even though the main characters are struggling with the survival stuff, the new beings add a different dimension that might not have been there in the ordinary dystopian story.

I picked this one up for free. And it still is. It's worth the read! I can't wait to read the next in the series (which isn't free so I will have to wait until payday to get it.) Oh, and no cliffhanger. Yay! Just enough to let us know there is more coming.

Thank you, C.L. Bevill, for another entertaining book!

I give this book a solid 3.5 stars. Sophia is on a hiking trip with her father when she wakes up one morning to find him gone. His sleeping bag contains only his pajamas and wedding ring. As the confused teen attempts to walk out of the mountains in search of help she encounters empty cars and towns, all littered with the clothing and belongings of people who have disappeared.

Sophie decides her best bet is to move south of her Oregon home to a warmer climate, hoping to encounter other survivors of the depopulation on her way. What she finds is a world that is the same, but also fundamentally changed. Creatures she had only previously imagined are real in this world. When she finally encounters a few other people things only become more confusing. All those left in this reality share unusual gifts, some helpful and others sinister.

Again, this is the beginning of a series that I need to keep up with. It’s a fun story, well told and full of surprises. A very entertaining read.

This book was weird. It is about a teenage girl named Sophie who wakes up on a mountain one morning all alone. She was hiking the mountain with her father. Her father is missing but his clothes and wedding ring are in his sleeping bag. She leaves the mountain and doesn't encounter any other people. She finds cars that have people's clothes in them; the cars have crashed into things. There are also a lot of new animals. For example, she sees unicorns, Loch Ness monsters, and a gryphon. The first person she meets is a man who tries to kill her. Sophie is eventually saved by Zach and Kara. Zach and Kara take care of Sophie's injuries and care for her while she is sick. Eventually, Sophie, Zach, and Kara meet up with a group of other people. However, Sophie's happiness is in constant jeopardy because of the Burned Man. The Burned Man is the man who tried to kill her. Sophie has a connection to pixies. The pixies protect her, talk to her, and even put a mark on her face. They view her as a sister. I liked how the pixies like people singing to them. I liked the relationship between Sophie and Zach and Sophie and Kara. I liked how a lot of the characters had psychic abilities.

Another great book

I love the writing of C.L. Bevill. I first came across her writing in the moon books. I can't recall the exact titles as my dyspraxic brain has a crap memory, anyway point is I love her books. I even read the bubba ones and though I wasn't quite as enchanted with them as the moon books they were still really well written and funny.

Sea of dreams is another great read. I ain't gauni give a synopsis, it's an end of the world book, that's all you need. Ms Bevill weaves a great tale, I look forward to reading the next book.

If you've read any other of her books, I think you'll like this one too.

I give it 5 stars. It's not the most amazing book I have ever read, but I don't have one amazing book in my libraries, I have hundreds and this is definitely on one of my shelf's.

I really loved this book, and I even wound up dreaming about it, no I had a nightmare about it. The premise is very interesting, and I don't think the author needed to explain why AFTER happened, although it might have been nice. This book would also be great for a teen, as there isn't anything that I teen couldn't read, and I think a teen would really enjoy it.

I would love to see this book turned into a movie, as just as in Dune, there were some things that I couldn't picture in my head. I think this book would make a really good movie, but, please, don't make it into some teen slasher/horror flick - it deserves the beauty of Avatar (and no, that is NOT a spoiler).

Congratulations to C.L. Bevill for another great book.

This was very different from the other books I have read by this author. It was an interesting concept to have most of the people in the world, or at least in this part of it, disappear overnight. There were no messy bodies to contend with, but there were a few accidents when drivers and pilots vanished. It seems that when the people disappeared, some strange and exotic animals appeared. The few peple that are left must learn to live in a world where no electronics work, there is no electricity, and only a few people remain. These people apparently all have some kind of unusual, well ability is not really a good description, but it will do. I hope the next book is as interesting as this one was.

I loved this book! The world the author built is fascinating and really fun to read and think about. It's dystopian, but definitely the coolest dystopian setting you could possibly have. I mean, the main character, Sophie, has pixie friends! Not going to lie, I was extremely jealous reading about that.
Sophie did get on my nerves once or twice, what with some of her stupid decisions (at least they were stupid to me; others might not agree). I also wished the author had gone into more of the new animals there, but I guess she does a bit more in the second book. In any case, it's fun to think up on your own what new animals there could or should be in this new yet old world.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book!

I bought this book because the blurb about it intrigued me. I have read a lot of apocalypse stories and seen a lot of movies about it and they were all very dark and scary. What I really liked about this story was it was not scary in that same doomsday tradition. It was scary psychologically because you saw things through Sophie’s eyes and she is a 17 year old girl. It was a lot cleaner because people just disappeared, no bombs, etc. This book really grabbed me and held my attention throughout. The story makes for a great read but I could not see it as a movie because most of what you see and learn about in this world is through Sophie’s inner thoughts. This definitely one of the best apocalypse stories I have ever read.

Post-apocalyptic/survival-type story with a mystic touch: If you like post-apocalyptic and/or survival-type stories with more than a touch of mysticism, look no further!

I've been re-reading Ms. Bevill's work in anticipation of "Forests of Dreams" release, the third novel in this series. "Sea of Dreams" follows a new reality in the US, and it's incredibly fascinating how it all develops and comes together.

Great book! A little creepy in one aspect, a little out there overall, but the concept was unique and interesting. Main character's attitude was frustrating, but it was needed to show the eventual contrast. I will be reading the sequel. I can read it anytime, because this book came to a nice conclusion. Love that, for sure!

Unfortunately I started reading this book about 1030 at night and finally put out the light about 3 hrs later. Very compelling story. How would you react if you woke up and everyone was gone? This is the story of what one young woman did and how she reacted to the things and eventually people around her. I hope the next in the series is as good.

this was another book that I immediately wanted to turn around and read over again. I loved the world that this book takes place in. I'm not usually one for romance in books, I like action and adventure, but the romance in this book wasn't overwhelming or boring. It meshed well with the rest of the story. I would read this again, and recommend it to others.

I had a hard time deciding between a 3 and 4 star rating. The story is interesting and makes me want to read the next book, but there are several typos which kind of makes me crazy. I do love this author though so I went with the 4.

Another wonderful book from a talented writer. Bevill has been my favorite author for some time now. I didn't give this book five stars as it moved a little slower than others, but still a fantastic read.

Best fantasy I've read in ages!

Great, believable characters. Well developed and lots of depth. Likewise, the story line is well developed. It pulled me in from the very beginning then I couldn't out it down. Looking forward to the second book!

I like this author. Even if it wasn't cheap, I'd still read her books. This is the fifth book I've read by this author and if I can, I will pick up more of her work to enjoy.

This book has an interesting take on life after people. Well, most people. There was plenty of intrigue as well. A very different kind of story. I can't wait until the next one.

I really enjoyed this book but a little disappointed with the ending. Maybe things will unfold for Sophie and Zack in book two. I really want to see them together.

I'm honestly not a fan of dystopian books...but this sort of makes me want to read more. The story was so smooth and while reading it, I can clearly picture out the settings... it's magical 😍

Sophie was a 17 year old girls whose whole world crashed in one fell swoop or in one night. She woke up on a mountain with her father missing and all that was left was his clothes. She walked for miles back home to check on her mother and fount the same thing. She got the urge to leave her home and travel south to CA. While traveling by bicycle since know cars or any kind of electronics worked anymore she came upon a mad man. He tried to kill her but some little green people who turned out to be little pixies saved her life along with two human beings. One of those human beings was a man named Zach who instantly knew who she was and what she meant to him. After the ‘Burned Man’, who is what Sophie called the man who tried to kill her, threatened her, Zach, and Kara’s life they moved on. They found a community of other people just like them. In other words Sophie had figured out why some people had survived the disappearance. Only some people didn’t want to believe in their abilities for the reason they were still alive and their loved ones were now ghosts. This book is a great fantasy book with lots of scenarios of what if this happened and danger. I can’t wait to read the next one to see what happens with Sophie when she meets up with the newly formed government.

Sophie is a 17 year old girl who goes camping with her father, and wakes up one morning and he has disappeared. She goes off to find help only to realise everyone has disappeared. Their clothes and wedding rings are left behind, technology doesn't work and she has found out that Unicorns now exist.

A good story, just took a while to get going. I really liked the last quarter of the book, it seemed to have a better pace. Yes it's probably geared more towards young-adult but the premise was still good. There seemed to be a few editing issues, not awful but noticeable, but I'm not sure if this is an author error or an e-book error.

I liked the fantasy element, I enjoyed the story but I was totally pulled in. This books ends but there is another one which I will be reading at some point but am not rushing out to read the second book.

I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

It's a very creative concept and well-written: Sophie is hiking in the mountains with her father and wakes up to a post-apocalyptic world where the human beings have disappeared, along with most of the other things that she's taken for granted in her world up to now. Sophie is forced to go on a formidable adventure to try and find other people, finding many other fearsome things and creatures along the way that she had formerly never heard of, or had only read about in fairy tales and myths.

This is the sort of tale reminiscent of Neil Gaiman/Stephen King/Suzanne Collins. Loving it!

Different … curious

It was a post-apocalyptic Earth but the apocalypse wasn't what the world expected it to be. In book 1, it was good that the bigger arc was placed in the background, as it would have distracted from the story of the main character.

The story also started slow, the build up of the characters were slow. But as this is a series if novels, it is understandable as this is an introduction to this new Earth.

This book is a fresh new take on dystopian science fiction with likeable, strong characters. If a little confusing and little irritating at times, it kept me guessing and was quite the thriller - legitimately nail biting. It can also be genuinely weird and confusing, but I enjoyed it.

An addictive and thrilling read throughout, I was very much hooked from the start. Energetic and well written, I was engrossed in this fascinating story, and all in until the end.

Recommended read.

Quirky, strange and weird and highly dangerous. This is the new world that the MC has to deal with all on her own. She is almost murdered. Meets others like herself. She grows into powers along with others in her group. But she is special. She is chosen by the pixies to be more. Highly enjoyable read. If you like mythical creatures and paranormal powers this book has got it all.

Great story!

This story had me hooked I was immediately interested and enjoyed the twists in the plot as well as the characters and the dynamics between them. I feel the writing was very visual and I am definitely getting her other books... I would absolutely recommend C.L. Bevill to other who enjoy this genre and even some who want to try a new one.
