2.5 stars, but I'll round it up.

FMC keeps developing more abilities to conveniently handle every situation as it comes up. And I was irritated that when the MMC shares all his secrets with her, she shares nothing with him. It just makes her feel... I don't know. Cold, and entitled. Like no one is worthy of the stuff she's keeping secret.

The series is alright. A bit cookie cutter, and I don't feel like I'm really engaged, probably because I'm not sure that I like the FMC, and I don't know much about the MMC (at the end of book 3!). And their relationship seems to have come out of nowhere. They barely know each other, but they both feel like they are barely holding back from professing undying love. How much time has gone by since they met in book 1? There's no indication of time, so I can only guess, but it feels like days. At most a couple weeks. I don't buy the depth of feeling, especially when we haven't seen any development of it. It is just suddenly there.

amazing!

Cannot wait for book four! The cliffhanger end - noo! Callan and London have shared more secrets with each other, but there are still some pretty big questions hanging out there to be answered. Amazing job Annabel!

still loving the series, but I sometimes feel like there is a lot of action going on but we still go nowhere. Sometimes i really question the intelligence of London. Some of her actions are just stupid and could be avoided with a bit of common sense

Deadly Knight is the third book in the Midnight Empire series. It is a post-apocalyptic urban fantasy world where vampires now rule the world. A place where everyone else is food unless you have magical powers. This book carries on from where the other left off so make sure to ead them in order.

Our FMC makes me laugh, but her mouth gets her in trouble. She is a kick ar$e character and is always the first into the action. There are certainly enough paranormal creatures around to try to stop her from finding the objects that could kill them all if they got into the wrong hands. Will they find them in time or will the power hungry get their hands on them?

It is full of action and adventure where the Knights fight the monsters in the world, causing chaos. I love it when stories are told in dual POV.

2023 bk 243. I struggled with this one - not seeing a clear picture of where it is going, until the end when I realize it isn't a trilogy series but a quartet and that this book had a purpose, but the purpose got lost in some of the details. Still and all I need a brief break from the series and genre and then will return to complete book four - after all I do need to know if she escapes the ..... that would be telling.

Continued...

This book leaves me wanting to know how London is going to escape the tower. Is Fallen going to sneak in and save her? Is Cynthia going to in enchant the tower and sneak her out? Are Cynthia and Fallen going to work together to save her?

This one was not my cup of tea and left me terribly confused. The tempo for this series has barely been set and It seemed to have gone off the deep end before time. The heroine seems to have fallen in love but I'm not sure when or how. The hero just always seemed to show up with no prior reasoning, the lack of chemistry and tension in the series was so lackluster.

The series was gearing up for a nice sweet flow and the temp wasn't too bad. It just fell apart during the middle towards the end. I didn't like the energy and I could not understand why the hero was even upset. The heroine had definite reasons why she kept her secrets and why she was never planning to tell anyone. Why he was so affronted and hurt I could not understand why.

Even the secrets that were revealed about her parents were done with little to no finesse. I didn't care for it at all.

This had so much potential and nothing more.

Rating the entire series. Solid 3.5 stars. Strong female characters and a lead character that is likable as she evolves. Good monster and story line. Solid ending.

Of all of the Midnight Empire: Tower books, “Deadly Knight is my least favorite. The storylines are beginning to be formulaic with London running here and there meeting various creatures from some myth or another all but abandoning any storyline that capitalize on auxiliary characters we have come to know and love.

London and Callan continue to dance around a potential relationship and I am getting to the point where I feel that the plot is a convoluted mess. I would say that I won’t continue with the series but in all honesty, the next book is the finale so I plan to finish what I started. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Supernaturals/Enemies to Lovers/very PG

SYNOPSIS (of 4 Book Series): This series is set in a world where, due to supervolcanos erupting, the world is shrouded in eternal darkness. As a result, the world has been taken over by vampire factions who rule different parts of the world and all supernaturals are under them and in their control. The FC is a Knight of Boudica which is a group of all female knights who fight against evil and monsters for money and are licensed to use magic to do so. The FC is also a dhampir which is a hybrid vampire/witch. Dhampirs are forbidden and killed immediately as they are deemed too powerful and a threat to the vampires. The FC must therefore hide what she is. The story arc revolves around the MC who is a royal vampire and the FC who must track down certain magical stones that others are also seeking and which could lead to the world being destroyed etc. Each book covers the discovery of a different stone and is a self contained story with the larger story arc and romance covering all 4 books. Book 4 is the final book in this series and ends with a climactic battle and HEA.

The books are well written and, on the whole, well edited although there are a few minor editing issues with the later books. The FC is likeable with a quirky sense of humour and very kick ass. The world build is good and solid as are the supporting characters with real relationship building which gives the whole story a real depth.

What I would flag is that this series is very PG. By that I mean that it is not just a slow burn but that the FC/MC do little more than share a few kisses, their is no sex, no swearing and a very „A Team“ approach to fights where nobody gets killed except actual monsters. This is despite the behaviour of some of the bad guys. So if you are looking for a sexy, hot romance or a dark, gritty story, this is really not the series for you. I very much enjoyed the series but did feel that it could have done with a bit more violence and heat. The world that the author describes and the behaviour of the vampires is reprehensible and yet everything is resolved with a nice neat bow at the end and no one actually admits that how the vampires behave is not acceptable and that some of them should have been punished. Not all individuals are redeemable which means that I felt some of the ending was not true to the characters that had been created.

Having said all this, if you are looking for an engaging, exciting, swashbuckling romp with a happy, feel good ending then this series is definitely worth your time. Just remember, this if very PG and is probably suitable for 12 year olds!

Another good one! 4.5 ⭐️s

Again, the ending just has you wanting to immediately tear into the next book to see what happens! Yes, it’s a cliffhanger, but it’s not like a terrible one where you’ve got emotional angst and can’t get through your day without knowing what happens next. lol.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed all of the scenes with Callan and London and I really need more of them. It’s okay that they’re not not the main focus of the book… In fact, I think I like London better for not being an emotional mess without Callan. BUT… I DO want more. I want to see them developing feelings for one another and spending time together and for their mutual admiration to be able to be expressed. And I just want to FEEL more from them.

That said, I loved how this one felt more like London was on a quest. It reminded me of fantasy books I used to read as a kid and it brought back good memories because of it. I’d love more of the same. (The part with the tortoise was my favorite!)

I also like how London is always trying to do good. To right wrongs and take care of the ‘little people.’ She’s got so much integrity and wants to give everyone a fair chance and the benefit of the doubt. She’s so compassionate and kind and even though she doesn’t know how to get close to others and isn’t comfortable with closeness, she’s super likable to most people she meets anyway.

Again, disappointed with the lack between her and Callan. I’m not looking for heat as it kind of annoys me in books (unless done very well), but sexual tension as well as emotional tension does make for a deeper reader experience. And I wish we had more of that in this series. That said, I’m going to dig into book 4 now.

Knight-for-hire London is more intent than ever to avoid the attention of the royal vampires as she continues on her secret quest to collect and hide the remaining magical stones. Heading to a mythical library to gain an upper hand over a dangerous competitor, London learns more than she bargained for, and picks up a certain vampire prince she’d rather not get involved with again.

With a dangerous new enemy out to steal the stones for their own use, and an old enemy breathing down the neck of the vampire prince refusing to leave her side, stakes are higher than ever to keep their plans quiet. As the search for the remaining stones get more and more complicated, London has a choice to make: should she lean on her friends and accept the help offered, risking their lives if things go wrong, or go it alone and risk the stones falling into the wrong hands?

This book answered a lot of questions I had about London’s heritage and the existence of the stones themselves. The lore and world-building are fantastic and really immerse you into the post-apocalyptic world under vampire rule.

Secrets are revealed and motivations get tangled as London works toward getting the stones to safety at any cost. The suspense is higher than ever as different plots align to bring readers to a nerve wracking ending. Will Prince Callan ever forgive her? And more importantly, can London get herself out of the mess she’s in and keep the stones out of the hands of those who would use them for their own gain?

things are getting intense

Okay 3.5 for me.

I liked this one. Her thing with Callen was good just like in the other books. Better, even. It’s a weird thing where it’s really GOOD and it’s not even the main point, which freaks me out because how can something that isn’t even the main topic somehow be so good?? Anyway…

The author has a way with humor and banter between the two. I adore her fellow knights. Her group of rescues are cute but they’re not as shiny as another group from a different series (no offense!) and it brings me to this next thing: the writing. I don’t know what it is, but it’s like… fast paced enough to be quick and not laggy but it hits such good points that you think it’s going too fast, or you didn’t get a long enough glimpse at what looks super cool. Part of me always feels like I could’ve enjoyed more time because of how awesome it come off as.

I think the mission of the stones is cool, because it’s a good thought and it peels off the layers of London. I think she’s got trust issues for valid reasons. I think she doesn’t have much time to make up for things that fell through.

I’m an impatient reader but I actually liked reading this and always wanted to go back to it when I had to put it down. I had some moments of wanting to skim when things got hectic and she was still “talking” but other than that, I like this series overall.

Yeah babyyyy I absolutely love this series !!! Why Callan wants London to maintain a safe distance from him ??? Come on he was all over the place trying to ask her in a date and now he says she has to maintain a distance ??!?!? WTF is happening?

Aaaaah Callan has a pegasus???? Fucking hell my childhood dreams, since I was six I asked Santa for a Pegasus … oh sweet baby Lucifer … Landon’s father is … fucking hell !!!!

“Keep right to reach the city center.” The car sputtered and died just outside of the city limits. Because of course it did. We took turns cursing and trying to identify the problem so we could fix it. It seemed to be the engine but all efforts to revive it failed. Even my magic proved useless. Finally Callan simply stood and stared at the engine. “You can’t intimidate an engine into working,” I said. “You’d be surprised.”

Oh guys I LOVE so much Callan and London dynamics, seriously they’re the best couple I read in some time, really refreshing and I have soooo much fun when they travel together hahaha

I read the first 3 books of this series back to back, and am looking forward to the 4th and final one in a couple weeks. I like how the heroine treats others. She's kind and non-judgmental, even though she's a badass knight. She's even a vegetarian. She uses humor to lower tensions, and actively looks at situations from the other's point of view. I like reading that type of behavior in fiction. There's too few examples of how to relate to others well in fiction, so thank you Ms. Chase for providing this character. The love story is VERY slow burn. One kiss in this book and some serious romantic tension.

In this book, the heroine is gets more information on the stones and also finds out who her dad is. She goes on a quest to recover the spirit stone and ends on a cliffhanger. There's a bit more flirting and some sharing of feelings, as well as poor communication leading to hurt feelings on the romantic front.

3.75 stars.

I picked this up from the KU Library after finishing book 2.

This starts with London hunting for more information about the stones before she is brought before Prince Maeron who demands she tells him what she's found out. She manages to get away and enlists the help of her Knights to help her leave London so she can follow more leads and ends up in Scotland with Callan of all people coming to her rescue.

I'm not going to go into too much detail but I did feel like London and Callan didn't get much page time in this one. I know their romance isn't the main plot so I can't really complain but I did miss their interactions. We didn't even have much Knight/banner time either.

I will read the last book, though, because I want to see what's going to end up happening with this group of people. I want London to be accepted for her magic and for her to get together with Callan. I will soon find out!

I have been in such a book slump and reading this series was my salvation, this series are sooooo goood.
Let me tell you, the way the author writes, the flow of the story, the characters, the mystery and almost everything it make me think of two big PR author with amazing books: Annette Marie and the team Ilona Andrews, this author has a lot of potential to become like them, her books are pure gold, yeah they are not perfect or as good as the other authors but she is a strong author to become a force in the PR world.
Since I couldn't stop reading them (they are THAT good) it took me a weekend to finish the 4 books so I don't know where one ends and where the other start so this review will be the same with some change here and there for the 4 books.

Deadly Knight is Book 3 in the Midnight Empire: The Tower by Annabel Chase.

This is Urban Fantasy AT ITS BEST!!!!

I am obsessed with this EPIC ADVENTURE Urban Fantasy series set in the future.
Super Volcanoes with ash going everywhere. Vampires, witches, all kinds of magical creatures are coming out to play with no sun left due to the ash. Vampires are ruling the world and humans must supply them their food, aka blood.

I absolutely LOVE London, our kick butt heroine, whose big secret is half witch half vampire, she is also one of the Knights trying to keep everything from falling apart.

The world building is absolutely FANTASTIC, next level amazing!

The action and adventure kept me on the edge of my seat!

The ending left me so ANXIOUS for the last book in this EPIC urban fantasy!

I cannot wait to see what happens!!!!!

Interesting

This although not the greatest series is at least imaginative and each book does enhance the story. London Hayes a Knight of Boudica has no difficulty finding trouble she had discovered that there are a number of stones in the world that control the different species that now exist out in the open from the ruling Vampires to were animals witches and wizards etc. Many are looking for the stones to gain power over others she has taken it upon herself to obtain and guard these stones. She has secrets and is finding more about herself if others discovered these things she would be killed. Unfortunately her attraction to a certain vampire Prince Callan has made her a little careless and she finds herself locked in an enchanted tower in Scotland can she escape we will have to read the next book to know.

Good

WARNING! Cliffhanger. This rated a 4/5 on my trauma scale as far as cliffhangers go, but since the next book is already out it’s not all that terrible!

Our intrepid heroine London, finds herself travelling around the country in search of more magical stones.
It’s not an easy job, and London finds herself in great danger, with powerful people wanting a piece of her- and control of the stones!

Some interesting events occur in the third book of this series, as London’s story continues. We find out some interesting facts about her, as well as about her quest.
It’s a fast read, with quite a bit of action and plenty of adventures. My personal favourite involved a certain Yoda quoting creature, which made me smile.
An engrossing story, this is a series the urban fantasy fan will enjoy.

2.5 stars. Not as good as the previous two books. I feel the series slowly going downhill.

The relationship between Callan and fmc is all over the place. It doesn’t make sense how they combusted at the end. The reasoning didn’t justify them separating like they did.

In the first book, he was Mr. Innuendo every other sentence (it was a little much). The second book, he escalated it but it felt so random and out of place. He started to keep his distance. Now he’s not. Now he’s mad…how can a vampire with immortality be so stupid?

Everything that happened in this book just worked out a little too well. It was suspiciously too convenient how everything worked out.

I don’t think I’ll continue.

I'm reading cause it's still fun and the length helps me stomach the book s faults easily.
At first I thought that the biggest flaw of this series is that the description and flow of the scenes isn't done well, but the book suffers from a bigger flaw that showcased itself a lot during this installment, and that is dialogue.
The dialogue for lack of a better word is weak. Monotone, preachy, lacks personality, unconvincing, and sometimes even cringey. Everytime the character talks to someone it feels like an interrogation and the other party is unnaturaly willing to share whatever information they know. So many more things that I could say, but honestly 'weak' covers it.
And the progression of the romantic part of the story is not organic at all.

The third book and counting with a race to find the power stones to hide them from unscrupulous and powerful rulers of the night. London and Callan become closer, or maybe not. So many secrets create distrust and suspicion. London perseveres in her quest facing lots of challenges particularly other untrustworthy people. Big sigh for all the tough going, but nothing keeps London from doing what she believes is good for all, not just herself. I like the grit and determination - oh, and the sarcasm. And just where did Ms. Chase come up with all these weird monsters not to mention the mythological ones were bad enough. Good read. Number four, "One Knight Stand," is next. I am going to try to read it today all the way through.
