On the run from her vindictive family, Natasha Desmond takes refuge at Kilburn Castle, reputed hunting grounds of a deadly vampire--and home to Garrett Kilburn, its sexy-as-sin owner. Though Garrett seems cold and remote at first, Natasha quickly learns that he's red hot in the bedroom. He seems to know all her secret desires and brings her ecstasy like she's never known before.
But at night, Natasha is visited by another mysterious lover. A lover who leaves two tiny wounds on her neck....
Romance author Suz deMello wants you to know that she has finished the process of re-acquiring rights to her books from various publishers, and then re-editing and repackaging each for indie release.
All her books are available in fresh, re-edited and re-covered new editions.
Suz deMello says, "I'm a cliche...A vegan yoga teacher from California who loves walks on the beach, cuddling her dogs and romance novels." But she's an award-winning, best-selling writer who's hit several best-seller lists, been short-listed for the RITA and reviewed by such prestigious publications such as Kirkus, Library Journal and Publisher's Weekly.
Suz uses a pseudonym to protect her privacy. But if you're a romance fan, you've probably read one of her 20+ books or have heard of her, since she's known for fast-paced, layered novels charged with humor as well as emotion.
Her personal motto is: Never stop learning, never stop growing. She's had at least five careers she can remember: librarian, trial attorney, Starbucks barista, grant writer, and yoga teacher. Perhaps her most interesting career move was teaching English to preschoolers in China! But she loves to write romance and teach yoga. She also has earned a 2d degree black belt in kenpo karate.
She currently resides in Mazatlan, Mexico, where she practices yoga, cuddles her dogs and walks on the beach every day. And yes, she's writing romance—this time, another Regency.
Now that I've got that out of the way, this story is only 32 pages, so I'm going easy on it, since there's only so much you can cram into a short.
Highland Vampire is an erotic romance, which is super important to know in case that's not your thing. Also, I paid $3.99 for this 32 page story, so I may be a bit bitter.
So, Natasha is on the run from her evil step-brother. Their aunt died, and left Natasha controlling interest in her business. Natasha is her blood niece, Brian was brought into the family 5 years ago. As an adult. And still has a position in the company. But he's power thirsty and a psychiatrist, so he tries to have Natasha deemed unstable and commited so he can take over the company.
She ends up in Northern Scotland and randomly drives til she sees a castle with a "vacancy" sign lit up. The guy at the gate is attractive and Scottish so how can she resist when he comes to her room that night and gives her some smoochie smoochie, and a little love bite. (btw, he never actually penetrates her, that's important) Well, the next day Garrett's nowhere to be found and everyone in the village tavern thinks Natasha is nuts to stay all alone in Castle Kilburn. Oh, that's because it's haunted by a vampire. So is her man Garrett the vampire? hmm....
One thing that I want to mention is that there were a few anal scenes (way more than was needed in 30 pages!) but in the first one, it was nice because it's the first time I've ever read where the girl didn't love it and the guy actually stopped.
My final opinion? This would have been a super fantastic full length novel! In fact I wish it had been! holy crap, the plot was great!!! It was one of the best erotic shorts I've read, absolutely, but I wish that this author would rework it into a full length novel.
Oh, and SPOILER ALERT this is a true spoiler, so don't click or I'll give away the ending:
Natasha Desmond has just inherited her Aunt's money and pharmaceutical business. The only problem with the inheritance is that her crazy step brother is not happy with it. He is trying to make Natasha look like she is crazy. His hope is to have Natasha admitted to the nut house. After learning of the plot, Natasha flees to Scotland in hopes of evading her step brother. While in Scotland, Natasha decides to stay a couple of nights at Castle Kilburn that is allegedly haunted by a vampire.
Garret Kilburn is the owner Kilburn Castle, and knows that the castle is haunted by a vampire. When Natasha arrives at the castle, Garret is taken back by her beauty. When Natasha starts being seduced by the vampire, Garret realizes that he must protect her from the vampire, and also try and protect her from her crazy stepbrother as well.
Unfortunately this book didn’t work for me. I found that there was no engaging story line, or personal attachment built to the characters in this book. It was just a whole lot of sex, with not a lot to tie things together. I would like to have learned more about who this vampire was, and why he is killing people and living at Kilburn Castle. I also would have liked to have learned more about Natasha. I don't recommend this book.
