Learn correct seat, leg, and hand positions; the three basic gaits of walk, trot, and canter; how to perform halt and half-halt; how to direct a horse’s movement correctly and energetically; and much more. Each fundamental is defined and explained, with plenty of tips on proper technique and an emphasis on how to avoid common errors.
Full disclosure - Hollie was my riding instructor for several years, and I have ridden a few of the horses pictured.
This book (along with the accompanying videos, which are also on YouTube) is a great primer for someone learning to ride, or who wants to ride properly. It may be too basic for some - but if a rider has an issue with a horse that keeps coming back, going back to basics is always a good idea.
Hollie is a great instructor, and that comes across here. If you ever have a chance to clinic with her (she has been at Equine Affair and also gives Balimo clinics), you won't regret it.
A Very necessary book for people who love or ride horses. I cite the book on our horse charity website, HTTPS://WWW.HorsesEveryOne.org, and have a tab for learning more about horses. The tab includes the YouTube videos that correlate with the riding instruction chapters in the book. The author was certified in all three major horse disciplines in Germany. It is concise and easy to follow the lessons.
An excellent book for riding! It even has a good DVD to go along with it so you can watch for yourself how to do the fundamentals described. Very good book and very helpful for my own riding as well as teaching others! I think "100 ways to improve your riding" was slightly more helpful than this one was though. But still a good book to have.
Explains the basic fundamentals of English riding with DVD included. I have learned a lot from reading this book and then watching and re-watching the DVD. I would highly recommend this book for novice riders like I am.
