When the other four disappear, Ryan is the last interrogator left with the antibodies to defeat the deadly Anthrax strain. J.J. Cooper spent seventeen years in the Australian Army, deploying on two tours of duty in East Timor and one tour to the Middle East in 2003. As a former member of the Australian Army Intelligence Corps, he specialised in Human Intelligence, including interrogation (as a practitioner and instructor).
His expert knowledge and experiences of interrogation techniques add value to the idiosyncrasies and depth of the characters within his novels. Since leaving the military, he spends every spare moment on his passion for writing.
He finds time to be a devoted father of two boys and a girl, and lives in Brisbane.
Jay Ryan has been living in Byron Bay for some time, recuperating from shooting injuries he sustained a year ago, and enjoying the surfing and a quiet life. But his life in the military is never far away, and his job as one of the top interrogators in the Australian Army seems to follow him, even though he left it all far behind...or so he thought!
When a routine wait in the long queue at the local RTA to renew his drivers’ license ends up with someone trying to kill him, and an anthrax attack at the Big Day Out Concert on the Gold Coast kills some young people, things start to heat up very quickly.
All of a sudden Jay is being hunted by rogue soldiers and dirty cops, and it seems there are very few people he can trust. Toni (‘is that her real name?’) seems to be on his side, and helps him escape yet another attempt on his life, but he can’t work her out.
Racing against time, trying to stop more bodies turning up, trying to find the source of the anthrax, and the horror of what could happen, that’s what Jay does best. But will his best be enough this time?
This is Australian author JJ Cooper’s second novel, with The Interrogator being his first. It was extremely fast paced, with lots of twists and turns. But the twist at the finish had me very shocked...I did not see it coming!
I would recommend this to all lovers of a fast paced thriller!
A thriller in every sense. It is a story of father-son superhero duo battling super villains camouflaged in police and military uniforms. Jay's superhero image is little bit diminished because of the help he is getting from his father Ed. JJ's narrative captures words, thoughts, actions, attitudes and preferences of police and military personnel. While the chapters are well written, occasional disconnects between chapters make the reader wonder 'how come?'
