Note: This review is for مراح الارواح, the core text. I have referred to ملاح as well, but only where I felt the need to.

Absolutely amazing book. This is the most advanced book on Arabic morphology that i've read so far, and definitely the most eye opening in terms of understanding the "philosophy" of the subject. The author very elegantly took on discussions, placing them perfectly and intuitively. I really liked some of the digressions that the author made, for example the one towards the end in the chapter of Naaqis where he described certain letters suddenly changing into another letter. It seemed so bizarre to me at first, but was very cool to learn about. Also the discussions at the start where the author describes why words look and sound the way they do in conjugations were interesting.

Overall, this book did an amazing job of giving a "big-picture" view of the subject, all while explaining intricate topics too. The plentiful use of good examples was also nice to see.

One thing I didn't like however was the author, at select places, giving explanations that were contradictory, but maybe I still don't quite understand the nature of Sarf. The explanations that were "contradictory" were generally given in a word or two so maybe I'm interpreting it wrong. But every explanation of the book i've referred to pointed towards a problem. This is nowhere near a deal-breaker however; Sarf is the one subject you can't exactly give explanations for, but the author did a splendid job in still explaining the "whys" of the axiomatic rules of the subject.

I had the pleasure of studying this book with an absolutely amazing teacher and scholar, which i'm endlessly grateful for. I'll probably go through this book again using some other explanation to see if I can get anything else out of it. Students who have gone through 2-3 books of Sarf cover to cover and are familiar with ~75% of the conjugations should definitely give this book a shot.

10/10 read. May Allah grant the author jannah.
