A beautiful retelling of this timeless classic. Heidi is the perfect introduction to classic stories for younger readers.
Heidi, a lively orphan girl, goes to live with her cranky grandfather in a little hut high in the Alps. Soon she is happy and healthy, leading a carefree life with her grandfather, her new friend, Peter, and the goats on the Alm. But Heidi's happiness is short-lived when she is sent to stay with a rich city family as a companion for a sick girl, Clara. Although she grows fond of the older girl, Heidi is terribly homesick. She eventually returns to the Alps and finds happiness once again in the clean, pure natural mountain setting.
Decent abridgment. I usually don't advicate adjustments but the unabr. Is very wordy is the not showing but telling fashion, so I forgive you for the shortcut
I have found myself in a rabbit hole of reading feel-good classic children’s literature. Perhaps I find it a comforting dilution to balance out the stress. Oh, I’ve been digging through Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata’s brainchild works during their pre-Ghibli stint. I am blessed to have Heidi and Anne of Green Gables Ghibli anime adaptations !!! 🍂🍃🥀🏔
I’ve actually no idea that what I’ve read was an abridged version. I feel like I was robbed. These works demand to be read in its most luscious and animated descriptions considering that Heidi was supposed to transport you to the Alps. I only found out that this was abridged when I was nearing the end and I haven’t yet reached the scene that I vividly recall from the anime. I just feel like the experience of reading Heidi the first time (not to mention, in the middle of an uneventful bout of homesickness) was ultimately ruined. But I guess for an abridged version, it’s okay for younger readers.
I read an abridged version (I think), the book at the beginning says it's a complete version but some parts I didn't see, read in wikipedia something after I finished. Simple read, and living on mountains can be good for you.
