What reviewers are
[Laurel Remington] has created a heroine to care about; plus, there are wonderful descriptions of cakes so exceedingly good that even Mr Kipling might approve. It's Jacqueline Wilson for the Bake Off generation and a fitting winner of the Times/Chicken House children’s prize 2015. (The Times)
Pre-teen girls will fall headlong into this heart-warming drama, which is a read-in-one-sitting affair but just be sure to keep the tissues at the ready. (Evening Echo)
This is a gripping, thought-provoking story full of emotional moments. You share Scarlett's feelings, willing her to do well, cheering her successes and cringing at her mum's thoughtless actions. (Primary Times)
A warm, touching and cosy novel! (Angels & Urchins)
A sharply observed story about family, friends and the world of social media, this mixes the magic ingredients of baking and blogging to create a perfect literary treat. (South Wales Evening Post)
The short review is that this book is AWESOME ... I really hope there will be a sequel as I'm sure that the secret cooking club will continue to have adventures! (Nayu’s Reading Corner)
The author gives us an excellent insight into the life and feelings of a pre-teen girl. Friendship - food - family; all perfectly combined to cook up a winner of a book. (Parents in Touch)

The cooking aspect of this book intrigued me because, as a child, I used to bake a lot and binge watch cooking shows. I’m not so much a fan of the main character’s mum being a social media ‘celebrity,’ but I understand why this trait was given and how it pushes the main character into pursuing a secret hobby. However, if social media already takes up an unnecessary large chuck of your life, reading this book won’t be the escape you need from the internet. Death also colours a few pages of this book, so bear that in mind for younger readers or those who have experienced a death in the family recently.
I liked the whole story it was so nice and enjoyable to read and I hope to read some more books of hers What I disliked was absolutely nothing I love her books
The Secret Cooking Club shows how one thing that you never thought you could do fun! It is an awesome read about friendship, love (and cooking) can lead to great things (maybe not the baking) 😜
I really enjoyed this book so much and it inspired me to try to create my own secret cooking club (which I never actually did). The characters and the friendships and plot are all so good. I also love the writing style.
