The Sisterhood Will Not Be Broken

It's been a year and a half since the women of the Sisterhood received their presidential pardons, but the freedom they craved has come at a high price. The impossibly lucrative positions handed out to them by the mysterious Global Securities company have turned out to be golden handcuffs--scattering them around the world, cutting off communication, and leaving them in miserable isolation.

But a happy homecoming at the old Virginia farmhouse is marred by the hijacking of Nikki and Kathryn's private jet. It seems their few fellow passengers are not ordinary travelers--they're an elite group of Interpol agents who urgently need the Sisterhood's help. Now the ladies face a stark resume their vigilante status for one of their most hazardous assignments yet, or try to outwit a group of powerful adversaries willing to use truly desperate measures. This time, everything is in the balance--their lives, their friendship, and the freedom they fought so hard to gain.  .  .

Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

I really have no interest in these characters anymore.

The girls, or "chicks" as Charles calls them are bitter, petty, hateful, spiteful, way too full of their own self-importance, conniving, scheming, selfish, spoiled, cruel, money hungry brats who have a serious hate on for the entire population of the males of our species.

I've grown to hate them as much as they hate men. And really, how many times in a single book can someone snarl at someone else or share an "evil smile?" I think we broke the record here and I'm just a little over halfway into the book.

Why do I keep reading you ask? Because this is book 18 of a 20 book series and I want to see how the train wreck will end.

Ok, I'm going trying to keep this short and sweet and not drag on and rehash everything.

The Sisterhood vs. Jellicoe.

At the end of the last book the Game was over the girls got their presedential pardons. So happy ever after now right? Yea....no.
What happens when Annie gets bored and after 18 months of no contact between the Sisters? Mutiny of course...
Hank/Henry Jerricoe thought he could control and sepeate the girls and he did for awhile until caught on and converged. The Sister after being separated world wide are now reunited back at the good ol' farm.

Now there's hell to be paid to one Mr. Jellicoe who the Sister's blame for what they consider their 18 months of 'captivity'.

Many things happen, secrets are uncovered, some relationship flurish some fail, but one thing remains the same...DON'T MESS WITH THESE GIRLS.

Ok now I know this is fiction and the story was good but I still find it extreamly hard to believe that 7 women "the Sisterhood" can do what the World's intelligance and security leaders can't. It's kinda far fetched but hey it's fiction right?

Recommened for those who love to read complicated plots with action, drama and a little suspense with Female leads while the 'boys' are second string.

I never learn. I was truly pleasantly surprised after reading the previous Fern Michaels Sisterhood book - mostly becuase I was elated that the series was FINALLY ending! I don't know I guess after having about 18 books in a series how can it be new or fresh. It all starts to sound the ssme. I couldn't believe that Ms. Michaels decided to bring all the characters back and continue the Sisterhood Series. My curiousity got the best of me because I wanted to see what she would do with the Sisterhood now, after wrapping everything up so quickly and neatly in the last book. Well it wasn't until about 2/3 or so through this book before even getting to what their mission was.

It's my fault for getting sucked in - I know I said it before but this time I mean it - I will not read anymore of the Sisterhood books - she'll probably write another 20 or so. I guess she really can beat a dead horse, and the rest of us are stupid enough to want to read it. There are too many other books that I'd rather spend my time on!!!

Cross Roads by Fern Michaels Fern Michaels

Just finished this latest member of the Sisterhood series. This newest novel reminds me of the first few books in the series. It is faster paced, less predictable and more interesting than the last few books. I really enjoyed this book with it's familiar cast of characters, focus on 'woman power' and concentration on repaying those who were wronged. I like the fact that the bond between the women is so strong and makes them closer family than the men they love and have married. I won't give away the plot, but know that the women, once again, discover what has been hidden and uncover it. Well written, enjoyable novel which leaves me waiting anxiously for the next episode in this series.

I really wasn't sure where Fern Michaels was going to take this series after the women were all given presidential pardons. I hesitated to read this book because I didn't want to be disappointed in a forced story line after enjoying the series so much. No disappointment here- the celebrity status of the women, the personal vendettas, the changes in the characters and relationships. It all worked great. I like that it was 18 months later so there was some time for life to happen after the pardons and everyone returning to their "normal" lives.
Good story, kept me smiling and guessing right up until the end. The Sisterhood is alive and well.

Eighteenth in the Sisterhood vengeance-suspense series revolving around a core team of seven women seeking justice for those denied it.

My Take
Never discount the bond of friendship amongst women. And that's just what Jellicoe has done. Global Securities is preventing any of the ladies or their men from contacting each other. For eighteen months. If this group is so smart, how come it took them so long to figure this out?

Myra is complaining to Charles that nobody needs her because they aren't calling her. So? Get out there and find something of your own. Why does Myra need someone to present an objective to her on a platter?? Why hasn't Charles figured out something is wrong? As for Annie, for a woman with her wealth, how can she be so stupid? What?? She doesn't believe that the cocktail waitresses at the Babylon might have some clue as to why they get great tips? She just ups and fires people for spurious reasons?

In Game Over , they all seemed to think Jellicoe's offer was good. Good money. And a good idea to get out of town for awhile with all the glare of publicity on the pardoned vigilantes. So WTF are the women doing going off on the guys for making that decision? It all seemed on the up and up at the time. I didn't hear the ladies complaining then. In 18 months no one took a vacation to see one another? Then they start to get their act together and what do they do? They slam their men and keep them out of the planning. The men are good enough to use for the dirty work but not enough for planning? These women will turn on you on a dime. Sure, they can be nice and they're certainly charitable. As long as you're not in love with them. Michaels must really hate men. Between how she has her female characters treat their own men and the viciousness of their attacks on the bad guys...whoa. Dang it, I gotta be fair, Michaels has the girls ripping on the bad girls as well...

I'll agree that Charles may be a bit blind about Hank, but they have been friends for a long time and his track record would support Charles' position so why Myra and the girls are being such bitches to him...egads.

Just how has Jellicoe "screwed up Myra's life so that she was virtually a prisoner here at the farm"? From what I've read, Myra has done this to herself waiting for someone knock on her door and give her a job or an interest.

Slowly, slowly, the wheels turn and the background checks go deeper and further back revealing a wealth of information on Jellicoe and the truth behind the plot to kill the President.

These women will drive me nuts with their "we're women so we're the best" bitching. If they're so good, why do they always have to turn to Avery Snowden and his people to ensure they keep their butts out of the sling?

Oh, please. The guy is a former Assistant District Attorney with a black belt and he tells another guy that he's being "a big silly"??? Oh. My. God. Where does Michaels come up with this lousy dialog??? Although, I did enjoy how she had Bert, Jack, and Harry destroying the CIA team's egos. It was pretty funny. The big sillies…

Speaking of dialog...I mentioned in an earlier review on this series that Michaels seems to have her characters on speed talking 80 miles a minute in choppy sentences. This initial exchange between Maggie and Emma Doty is an example of this. It's also an information dump and almost sounds like a spiel to extort money.
'Well, I read your paper online every day. I lived for many years in the Chesapeake area. When my husband passed away...We were childhood sweethearts. I'm disabled and housebound these days, so my life is pretty much my computer. Don't you go feeling sorry for me, now; my children take real good care of me.'
Why do Snowden and the boys have such an adversarial relationship? Is it supposed to be a guys' thing? 'Cause it sure seems hostile to me.

I do like Kathryn's relationships with the other truckers and then there's Espinosa's glee as he snaps shots of the captives...oh man...

The Story
The girls are either angry or bored. The guys are itchy and getting really suspicious. Nothing is turning out as they expected. It's makework of the worst kind and it's Ted and Joe who start putting the pieces together and start the avalanche by resigning from Global Securities. Their heads-up to Maggie sends her sprinting to Myra and Annie to relay their concerns. In the meantime, Harry and Yoko have returned to D.C. Seems the training Global Securities set up with the Israelis was totally unwanted and discounted by them and with Yoko's miscarriages, Harry has resigned from Global as well.

Luckily for Jack, his secretary is late to the office and he finds the faxes for Joe, Ted, and Harry's resignations and he contacts Bert resulting in their resigning. Which sets off the summit meeting at 30,000 feet with the heads of MI5, the Sûreté, Mossad, Interpol, and Scotland Yard. And Hank Jellicoe. Seems theirs was a plot to keep the vigilantes out of the way while Jellicoe finds out who is behind the plot to kill the president.

The Characters
Myra and Charles Martin are back at the farmhouse in Virginia and Myra is bored out of her tiny mind. Annie is kicking slot machines in Vegas and glad to see the back of Little Fish. Maggie Spritzer and Ted Robinson are still engaged and Alexis Thorne and Joe Espinosa are very happy but Joe and Ted are off running around the world doing busy-work newsletters for Global Securities. Harry and Yoko Wong are married and working in Israel. Bert Navarro and Kathryn Lucas and Jack and Nikki Emery are working abroad and both couples are arguing and about to split up the girls are so angry over Global's machinations. Isabelle Flanders is practically held prisoner by Stu Franklin in Paraguay and has been plotting her escape for months. Cosmo Cricket and Lizzie Fox have a baby boy, Little Jack. Nellie and Elias Cummings have settled into a boring retirement mostly due to Nellie's two hip replacements.

President Martine Connor hasn't heard from Hank Jellicoe since the night he proposed to her.

Abner Tookus is a computer whiz and a very good friend of Maggie's who can always find the goods. Avery Snowden is one of Charles' contacts. Emma Doty is a piece of Jellicoe's past with some very interesting information.

The Cover and Title
This cover might actually have some relevance to the story! Who knew!! Again, it has a garden theme, up close and personal of pink geraniums blooming from fat white concrete planters with a peek at blue-and-white striped patio chairs in the lower right corner.

The title is also relevant as the vigilantes are bored and angry with their current lives. They have their pardons but life is meaningless right now, what they need is some action, something with meat. The ex-vigilantes are at a Cross Roads in their lives.

At the same time the sisterhood was securing their pardons, the gents of the group were approached by Hank Jellicoe, the founder of Global Securities. Hank wanted to retire and hire the gents of the group to take over this lucrative security company. Everyone jumped at the chance, and 13 months later, life didn't look like anyone thought it would. Scattered to the far corners of the globe and blocked from being in touch with one another, the sisterhood and their partners are miserable. The worst thing that happened was that those pardons were granted. One by one, the ladies begin to understand something is wrong, and separately, they figure out that Hank Jellicoe isn't who or what he claimed to be - or who he convinced others he was. That was the wrong move, Hank, to try and pull one over on the vigilantes. Now, he must answer for his crimes against them and others. But first, they need to find him. Hank's gone to ground, but he's a man, and they are women - he's no match for them. It hasn't been personal for quite a while for any of the vigilantes, but Hank Jellicoe has made it personal for them once again.

The title is really dedicated to highlighting the absolute stupidity of the sisterhood men, including Charles. It also highlighted the insane version of reality Michaels is trying to pass off as probable.

The sisterhood had received their Presidential pardons, but they had come as a high price. Sure, being able to go about their business again and live with their partners or get married was great. Being able to do the jobs they trained for was marvelous; but not seeing each other nor working closely together any more was missing. Not having the adrenaline rush they got from their missions was also missing.
Hank Jellicoe had given them great jobs with Global Services; but those turned into isolation sentences with no interaction with the others. They had finally wised up and left Global Services; but had to do so surreptitiously.
Nikki, Kathryn, Jack, and Bart are the last ones to manage to get out and they were on a flight home. They had turned down the first flight as there were men on the plane that they didn't know nor recognize. It could be Hank's men to stop them. They managed to get a second flight with another group of men who offered to give them a lift. They were having a meeting on the plane and just wanted to be left alone.
As the flight was on its way, they became suspicious of who the men were. This suspicion became reality when the men revealed themselves as interpol agents and hijacked the plane. What did they want with the four? They had until they reached the United States to learn what the men wanted.

I don't give away spoilers in my reviews.
Oh, how I am addicted to the Sisterhood series. I love all of the Sisters as well as the Men of the Sisterhood. I especially appreciate that each book can also read as a standalone since I tend to read them out of order. I am still collecting the books as I come across them so I'm skipping around in the series but have always been able to follow along easily.
So, the Sisters are definitely vigilantes and this book has the Sisters and the Men going after someone who dared to try to separate the Sisters from one another. It was a fun book to read - especially the last few chapters. I laughed and could easily imagine the scenes.
The Sisters' individual habits make me laugh - such as Maggie's crazy appetite, Harry's ability to put someone to sleep instantly with a flick of his fingers to a nose. I also love Charles and his love of cooking, his planning and how organized he is.
I also love a book with animals and I love how Murphy, Grady, Little Lady and One, Two, Three and Four are repeatedly included in the story.
Such a fun series.

Very good read its the continuation of the sisterhood series. The sisterhood get pardon but it was not freedom, it was a golden handcuffs from Global Securities. The company separated the sisterhood and their families for a year and a half giving them big contracts all over the globe. They were unable to get in touch with their love ones, and were watch every step of the way. When they became aware of the set up they set a plan in motion only to find out that the boss of Global Securities set them up. The sisterhood return the favor by taking down Hank Jellicoe the big fish . Good read. Lots of suspense and laughter.

Not the best-too much man bashing!

The story line was good but in this age of technology, hard to believe no one could contact each other. The way the story was told could have been much better. And seriously, you want us to believe that only women can think and men are stupid and “emotional”. Not hardly. Maybe a few but not the entire group, please! All parties need to grow up and stop with the disrespect that has been repeated in every book. There needs to be a maturing since they’ve been working together for awhile. I was on a roll reading this series but will take a break and read something else.

As Good As It Gets
This is an excellent thriller. This book is part of a series that revolves around a group of women who are set to right some injustices. This book should be read in publication order as the personal relationships are so much better when you know the background story. This story has many international pieces that move around on an uncertain gameboard. The story is clean without foul language, bedroom scenes, or gore. There is a bit of violence. I am really enjoying this series.

Beginning to think this is the end of this series for me, the whole book was boring and pointless, still not !00% sure what the punchline was. I might have missed it I was listening to an audio book and my mind kept drifting.
I'm also beginning to dislike "the girls". When they were getting revenge for their own personal missions it was understandable but now they seem to enjoy inflicting pain for no good reason and Maggie is so annoying and not a nice person at all.

just finished the 18th book in this series

and wonder why no one has seen what an excellent TV/streaming service series this would make. Great characters you can get invested in, imaginative story lines and the perfect length for each book to be one season. It would be even better using relatively unknown actors so viewers would not be distracted by trying to forget previous roles played by an actor and just focus on the story line and development of the characters.

Kidnapping???

What happened to the supposed gulf stream jet kidnapping of Jack and the guys from book 17? (I found a similar problem from book 16 with Myra and Charles' "possibly" getting back together?) Suddenly, it was just a non-issue, like the supposed kidnapping. Am I missing subliminal messages? Otherwise, this story was one of the BEST. I enjoyed the set-up and storyline.
Jack and Harry still make me laugh.

The women of the Sisterhood have been separated for 18 months, no contact with each other, due to the rules of Henry “Hank” Jellicoe head of Global Securities. All forms of communication are blocked and the girls are fed up with their men who are forever working and being sent around the world. One day the ladies decide enough is enough and each pack a bag to leave. . .will their men follow them?

Another great Sisterhood book. The Sisterhood is scattered around the world except for Myra and Annie and Charles. Pardons have been issued but all is not right with the "chicks.". Jack and Bert are beginning to have serious doubts about their new jobs and everyone just wants to be back at Pinewood. And Mr Hank Jellicoe has gone missing. Another case for the Sisterhood to solve. Let the thrills begin...

I really don't know why I continue to read these "Sisterhood" novels. The plots are all very far fetched and the characters seem to be able to do things that normal people would not. It is more like fantasy than realistic fiction. This one took a long time to build up the plot and it was kind of a lame plot at that. I would not really recommend this book. It will probably be the last one of this series that I read. I can't believe that there are 30+ books in this series!

This is a fun series to read as the Sisterhood helps each one of the Sisters and a few others along the way.

**Must read the series in order.**
Love, Love this series. Highly recommend to those that enjoy: Fast reads, Some romance, crime-suspense, mystery suspense, chic lit n romance n drama, humor, action packed suspense romance, mf. Started reading Fern Michaels in 2018.
(As I write this review I'm up to book 26. March 1st 2019. & will start book 27 next week)

Must begin with book and read them in order to understand all of the people that come into the Sisterhood and when the men start coming into it. Love the changes of the Post and how everyone works together around the table. Nothing gets discussed at the dinner table but only in the war room.

Romances develop, marriages happen, punishment/revenge happens to someone who wronged someone else whether it is someone within the Sisterhood or a random person. The sisters all work together to get through the tough times and the happy times. So many twists and turns. Love, Love reading this series. I take time off after I read a couple books and read my other genres and come back to read this series.

Most assuredly, I found this book confusing at the least but realize I hadn't read the previous books in the series so there's that. Took longer than usual for me to plow through due to confusion and not knowing the background story from the beginning. Just another reminder to myself to try harder NOT to read book series out of sequence! Cute characters. Interesting story-line.

The Sisterhood is back! Unfortunately, Charles is not their front man anymore. They feel as though they are weary of trusting him.

The other men have decided that they cannot stand their lives, separated across the globe, working for Global Securities.

The Sisterhood makes it their mission to find the owner of Global Securities.

Go, but not quite as good as the others.

I liked the story, but there was something missing in this one. I can't put my finger on what it is. Just that I felt like something was missing in this story. The story had the normal sisterhood action, adventure, humor, etc. But I finished the story feeling like something was lacking.

A series to recommend

I have truly enjoyed this series so far. Each book gives me the opportunity to get to know the characters better and understand their story. It is a unique series that to me is difficult to put into a category. Definitely worth reading and for the best experience, it is best read in order. Cannot wait to start the next book.

This book more like some of the first ones. It kind of went round and round in places, but finally got an explanation at the end. The bad guys got caught of course, but the worst got away. Don't know how such smart people could have been so isolated for so long. That part doesn't compute.

Sorry, Ms. Michaels, but this book was a total disappointment! It was a crashing bore! I felt that I wasted my money but read it to the end because I wanted to know how it turned out. Wish I could have my money back!
