Katie Long was supposed to be undercover. She was just supposed to watch Deputy Prosecutor Eric Kimura at his ex's wedding and gather intel on his campaign for prosecutor. But he's a lot hotter in person, and the kind of intel they accidentally shared in the hotel bathroom might lose both of them their jobs. Especially since it seems to be a recurring incident. Is it possible for a one-night stand to last ten days?
Kimura isn't usually the impulsive type. He's driven, he's ambitious, and he knows what he wants--a respectable future in Hawaii politics. Which means wild half-public sex with a beautiful stranger in a short little caterer's skirt is just tabloid fodder waiting to happen. Conveniently, just as his campaign is coming under attack. Sabotage, media gossip, and an insatiable desire for a woman he just met? If he's not careful, Counselor Kimura might lose all control. . .

I really, really liked this book. What a fun ride. Katie is a snarky, sassy heroine and I love that. Eric is a little more down to earth, for lack of a better phrase, but they feed off each other wonderfully.
What I loved about this book is that it had such a real feeling to it. Neither Katie nor Eric are perfect. In fact, they both make stupid decisions at times. But when one makes a stupid decision, the other calls them on it. Every time a conflict came up, they talked it out. I loved that! It's amazing what communication does! There is still conflict, but I love the way it's worked through. No big misunderstanding. Even when there is a deception, it's brought to light quickly and resolved then.
And while I enjoyed the realistic feeling of the characters, this is a romance. So there is still that whimsy that makes us love it so.
This is my second book by this author and I love her dialogue and wit. I'll be reading more by her for sure.
Re-read 8/16/12 I'd forgotten that I read this and enjoyed it. Enjoyed it just as much the second time around. I also forgot that I wanted to read more by this author. Think I'll rectify that soon!
4.5 Stars! I loved Eric's book and was so happy that he got his HEA. After Deana really worked his heart over in HOFAH for doing the right thing, he deserved his HEA. This was the best of the series and had some fun, snappy dialog. When Eric asked Katie if she looked something up she said in the Big Book of Stereotypes, I just had to laugh. The ending was my favorite kind of ending. I wish that we would have got to read about Cara (Katie's sister.) and Sean's romance. He is such a player, I would have love to have been a fly on the wall when he lost his heart to little Ashley(Cara's baby.). You don't have to read the other books in the series in order to read this book, it holds up well as a standalone. But once you read it you will probably want to go read Josh and Deana's choppy romance.
Excellent ! Just the book I needed when I needed it, isn't it wonderful ? I was looking for a good (no, not good, excellent) romantic suspense to take my mind off problems and bad weather, with just the right amount of banter, of steam, of humor and with please (please !) adult characters that don't behave like they're in a schoolyard. I got it all right here ! And it made me pretty happy and smiling and all that while the rain was pouring and the wind was blowing. Maybe, if I look real hard for something to criticize, I'd say Eric is too nice, but it would be a really bad critic, now would it ? I loved Eric, I want an Eric, now ! I loved Katie ! I loved them both together, I loved their dialogues, their reactions, I loved the whole stuff.
PS : so I went back and bought book #1 of the series, and it's the exact opposite - awful. Can't imagine it's the same writer. So skip book #1 and jump on book #5 !
I'm not going to bother writing what this is about. I'm sure most know from the description above. So I will just sum it up with what I thought and felt. Short and sweet.
This short book of 245 pages was utterly sweet. I zipped right through it in no time. I loved how Eric had his doubts about Katie's involvement in the scandal but he kept listening to what his heart was telling him. At least until the very end when there was just more and more dirt that made her look guilty. But the ending was satisfying and just so sweet. Eric was utterly sweet and dreamy. Katie was a doll and so out going. It was a feel good book.
Grabbed me right away from the first page. Very sexy read, but not overly detailed as in erotica. First story I have read where the hero is Asian American (very sexy)and he was such a good boyfriend- even though she was a dirty little secret that could hurt his career. The way the book started it was a real page turner and I did read it in one sitting, but it lost a little momentum with the ending. I wanted more drama and heartbreak moments in the final conflict, but it was still good. Will definitely look for more from this author.
Really good book. Katie and Eric just can't stay away from each other. I really liked both of them. Katie was a wild child that is finally getting her life on track. She didn't expect the immediate attraction to Eric. She also didn't expect to actually like him. She wants to end her job following him so she can just be with him on her own, but ends up staying on to keep someone else from doing it. She finally confesses to Eric what is happening which naturally creates some conflict between them. Because of things in her past she has some trust issues which feed into her relationship with Eric. I liked the way that they always managed to talk things out. Katie started out seeming kind of immature, but did a lot of growing up in this book. Eric is older and more settled. He is also a nice guy at heart. He has political ambitions and is worried that his encounters with Katie could be a setup. Their chemistry is incredible and he just keeps going back for more. He really likes her and when some bad stuff starts happening he doesn't want to believe she is behind it. They figure out that there is someone else is and they need to find out who it is. The final confrontation was very good. I loved the dialog between the two of them. She is pretty sassy, which is something that Eric is not used to. Their relationship also causes Eric to look at his workaholic ways and realize that he wants more balance in his life. This was a really fun book to read.
I know I sound like a broken record, but there are reasons that I keep reading the same authors over and over. I adore HelenKay Dimon’s dialogue, sassy heroines, and intelligent heroes (even though they frequently act dumb, it makes it much more fun). In Impulsive, Eric is trying to prove to himself that he has no hard feelings when his ex gets married. So he goes to her wedding. At the wedding, he sees the caterer from across the room and next thing we know, they are getting it on in the bathroom. (Hey, don’t knock it til you’ve tried it). Katie was hired to spy on Eric to see if there is any truth to the rumor that he’s still involved with his ex. But she sees Eric, and all that flies out of her head. Eric and Katie keep getting together, and lots of hot sex ensues. And it eventually turns to love.
What I liked: I really loved Eric. He’s not a typical romance hero. He’s introspective and thoughtful, a lawyer/politician who seems to be in it for the right reasons. He has managed to realize that friendship with his ex is ok, and that he can handle it. In small doses. He keeps himself under tight control, and it’s awesome to see his control being slowly unraveled both emotionally and physically by Katie and also by the situations in which he finds himself, such as having Deana (the ex) barging into his life at all hours or his love life splattered all over in a video. He’s like that rubber band – it always contracts back to normal, but at some point it gets stretched just a little too far and breaks, or stretches so much, it loses its elasticity, becomes brittle, and breaks. That’s Eric. So patient, but eventually it’s gotta give. And he finally does, which makes him even more human to the reader. Plus, well, that man is hot with the sexin’. Seriously, I wouldn’t mind being stuck in a bathroom or in an office chair with him.
Katie: she’s a bad girl gone good. Kind of. Although she was bad for understandable reasons, she spent the majority of her teen and early adult years doing the wrong thing. And now that she’s trying to turn her life around and do the right thing, she finds constant roadblocks in the way. Once she discovered her feelings for Eric and found out her ‘job’ was going to hurt him, she ended the arrangement. Although she’s very young (and at first I thought there was no way at all Eric would have any interest in her besides sex), she goes through a maturation process that began before the book started and continued throughout. It helps put perspective on her relationship with Eric. She loosens him up and helps him laugh, and he helps ground her.
I liked that Katie was honest with Eric almost as soon as she realized she had feelings for him. It helped him to be more trusting of her when obviously someone was undermining his campaign. And I loved the way he defended her, even when he had the occasional twinge of doubt.
I loved that Deana and Josh (H & H from Holding Out for a Hero, and Deana is Eric’s ex) are such nudgeniks. They push their way into Eric’s life (although for Josh, it’s begrudgingly). I really liked that neither of them is portrayed as the ‘bad guy’, in that in my experience, most people don’t look on their exes with venom; they were just relationships that don’t work out. At least that’s how I see my exes (granted, in terms of exes, I only have the perspective of a high schooler – got together with hubby sophomore yr of college). Still, Eric is still a little raw about the breakup, and somehow it tickled me that Deana got in his face, determined to be his friend.
What I didn’t like so much: Katie’s sister. Yes, she’s quite protective of Katie when Eric comes around, but she still expects the worst from Katie, even though Katie is helping her with her catering business, taking care of her daughter, and saving money for school. She always has the first thought of “What have you done now?” Frankly, that would drive me bat-shit crazy. But I also understand how important the family they have left is to both of them.
Another hero with hidden depths, a heroine who does a lot of growing up, and a bit of a madcap election campaign (Impulsive is releasing at just the right time, I’d say). Dimon has hit just the right balance of all these things to make me happy. The last couple of books have had some darker elements to them. This one, not so much. I wouldn’t call it fluffy by any means, but it’s certainly a little more light-hearted than the last couple of books. Complete with her signature wit and terrific characters, Impulsive was a great read for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Eric Kimura is still hung up on his ex and at her wedding to another man, he has sex with a stranger, a waitress, in a bathroom stall. At least it’s better than getting drunk and making a scene. But what he doesn’t know is that the waitress is not an ordinary waitress. Someone hired Katie through an old acquaintance to spy on Eric at the wedding. I was utterly surprised to find out who it was and outraged on Eric's behalf.
Katie Long is an impulsive young woman with a penchant for getting in trouble. She really tries to stay out of trouble and behave but it seems like it just follows her wherever she goes. She’s sassy, vibrant and a wild child with a heart of gold. And while she didn’t plan to fall in love with Eric, she does and once she finds that out she jumps in with both feet.
Eric is the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, about to campaign to be elected Prosecuting Attorney. He’s strait-laced, ambitious and a workaholic. He’s also fair and conscientious. Katie’s zest for life and her spontaneity make him open up and live a little and she’s also that last push he needs to get his ex out of his mind.
As for secondary characters, I loved seeing Deana and Josh from HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO again and must also praise HelenKay Dimon for not cluttering the book with too many secondary characters but instead using the amount needed to support and complement Katie and Eric and the plot. The political intrigue plot that accompanies the romance was subtly written into the rest and, like the secondary characters, never took over. Yet it was a plot that kept me on my toes. First with the who, then with the why.
The first page of IMPULSIVE is the perfect example of a beginning that immediately hooked me. It was hot, with just enough information to make me very anxious for the rest of this story. And the title is absolutely fitting. Eric's behavior though, was also very unexpected and out of character for the Eric I got to meet in HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO so I was curious to see how it all was going to be played out. And I can say now that it played out great. I loved this Eric, who truly and pleasantly surprised me by being more playful and less of a the cool politician than he appeared to be.
HelenKay Dimon writes awesome banter and dialogues. I noticed this in HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO and in IMPULSIVE it continued right from the start with Eric and Seth and later with Eric and Katie. Seriously! HelenKay Dimon takes dialogues to a higher level and this puts her on the top of my favorite contemporary romance authors. Her dialogues are a mix of witty banter and humorous fun and a way of showing her characters' personalities and at the same time creating depth in them. I almost salivated reading them and must admit that while reading IMPULSIVE I would regularly go back to certain dialogues and read them a second time, just to experience the joy of awe-inspiring dialogue again.
What more can I say about IMPULSIVE? It's contemporary romance and then some! It has fun, passion, arguments, chemistry, trust issues, commitment, love and a little bit of suspense. It's delivered through excellent and smooth writing, witty dialogues, serious dialogues, strong main characters and interesting secondary characters. The ending was so sweet it's good I have a major sweet tooth and therefore loved it.
With HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO and IMPULSIVE HelenKay Dimon has written herself straight on to my favorite contemporary romances list and made a new fan for life. If you love contemporary romance and you haven't read HelenKay Dimon's Men of Hawaii books, please remedy this because they're an addition to any lover of contemporary romance’s bookshelves.
HelenKay Dimon gives new meaning to “smoking in the boys room" in her latest novel Impulsive and she wastes nooooo time getting right to the action…like page 1.
Katie Long had a simple job to do at the wedding of Deana Armstrong & Josh Windsor (Holding out for a Hero)…well besides helping her sister cater the wedding of the century. Keep her eye on the prize that is Eric Kimura, ex-hubby of the blushing bride and report back on his activities. Sounds like a simple enough task to make a little extra cash on the side except Katie didn’t count on the physical chemistry that ignited between her and the hunky Deputy Prosecutor. Hot sex in the bathroom had definitely not been in the job description.
Eric Kimura was going to put all the rumors to rest once and for all and show everyone that he was well and truly over his ex-wife Deanne. What better way to prove it than by attending her wedding to her DEA agent hubby. The last thing he expected was the hot quickie in the bathroom with one of the catering staff.
On the surface Katie and Eric are not what I would consider a match made in heaven. First of all Katie is much younger, by like 12 years than Eric. She’s barely out of her wild child years, had a brush with the law, has always been considered a screw-up by her sister and is just starting to get her life on track. Eric on the other hand is older, more mature, established in his successful career and has decided to run for the position of Prosecuting Attorney.
Considering that Eric was running for a public and high ranking position, I found the quickness with which these two engaged in hot anonymous sex a little foolhardy. In Eric's position he should have realized that his life was about to be dissected, bisected and probed while his every move was examined under a microscope. Hooking up with the hired help could have derailed his political ambitions before they even got off the ground. Having said that one only has to scan past and current headlines regarding political figures and their penchant for inappropriate sexual encounters to know that - men are men - they aren’t always thinking with the big “head”.
Katie didn’t think that when she agreed to play I Spy on Eric that she would ever see him again but he had different ideas. As her feelings grow and their relationship blossoms, Katie knows she needs to come clean about her part in their supposed first “meeting” before it blows up in her face. Someone inside Eric’s camp however has other plans for Katie “aka their inside source” and isn’t about to let her quit without a fight or take her down in the process.
When he truth comes out, who will Eric believe? Can he get over Katie’s betrayal and the betrayal of someone close to him? Do these two have more between them then hot sex to sustain their relationship? All these questions and more, plus a great story can be answered...don’t delay...be Impulsive...buy this book now!
This book starts out pretty hot. Katie and Eric are going at it hot and heavy. I just had to ignore that it was in a bathroom. Or pretend that it was a bathroom made out of solid gold, one that had no germs or bacteria in it. Eric is at his ex’s wedding to prove to himself and his future constituents that he is over Deanna Armstrong. Katie is at the wedding to help her sister--the caterer--and to make a few extra bucks on the side by spying on Eric. So when she does him in the bathroom (there is simply no other way to word it) she knows exactly who he is.
When Eric searches Katie out a few days later, he has convinced himself it is only so he can apologize for running out on her so quickly after their tryst. Katie is appalled to find him at the catering shop. The last person she wants to see is Eric Kimura. Not only does she feel like a whore for sleeping with him, but she actually liked him; felt a connection to him. Connections are things that Katie no longer does. After her last disaster of a relationship, Katie steers clear of connections of any sort.
Before long, Eric has sought Katie out again. Then again. To her credit, Katie went to the man she was “spying” for and told him to go stick it. Yet when she was told that someone else could do the job, she decided that she would keep the job because it was the lesser of two evils. All she would do is report back negative information. It was all very wishy-washy and immature. Katie was immature. I didn’t really care for her at all.
Now Eric, he was a man. A man that deserved a woman that was more grown up than Katie. I suppose that Katie did grow up while knowing Eric. She was forced to lose him which in turn made her grow up, but it was a slow process. Eric had to do a little growing himself, but I’m still not sure that Katie was right for him. No doubt she loved him, but I had doubts that she would satisfy him for the long term. I still love Dimon’s writing style and the sex is just hot. I give Impulsive a 3.75 out of 5.
Katie is on a job to spy on Eric, who's running for election. They have hot sex at an event and then of course they are hooked on each other. She has a crooked past, he is a public figure. They make a secretive start to a somewhat romance while his campaign is dogged by rumors and negative press. Secrets on Katie's side of course blow everything up and then they have to decide if they trust each other. The one decent thing in the story is at least they talk out their problems with each other.
I read this whole book and I’m still unsure if it liked it. Did I love it? No. Did I hate it? No. It was just… eh?🤔
I felt both main characters were emotionally immature. I did like how they talked things out and wanted more from one another & got married. Too many references to Eric being old. He’s literally only 37?? Like calm down. It just didn’t hit like I wanted it to. However… the sex scenes were solid😏
I enjoyed this book about Eric and Katie. Katie was supposed to watch Eric at the wedding of his ex. She ends up having sex with him instead, so she wants to tell him about why she was watching him. She sees him again after he tracks her down at her sister's catering company kitchen.
The get involved but the person who wanted Katie to watch Eric is not backing down and he causes more trouble for the two then they thought possible.
Katie Long meets Eric Kimura at a wedding that her sister is catering. The original plan was for Katie to keep an eye on Eric. You see, Eric is a rising star in legal circles and is planning to make a run for prosecutor. He attends his ex-girlfriend's wedding to show the world that he's totally fine with her wedding. The truth is though, he loved Deana, and he's crushed that she's marrying someone else. So when he sees a hot, young waitress looking at him at the wedding, one things leads to another and next thing you know, they're in the bathroom having the hottest encounter he's ever had.
Eric walks away from the encounter feeling awful. He doesn't even know the girl's name. He's a gentleman, and he certainly didn't treat this girl like one. He decides to track her down, apologize, and also, make clear that he's running for office, and this little detail could really hurt his campaign. When he tracks Katie down, he apologizes, but also realizes that this woman sparks feelings and desire in him like he's never experienced.
For her part, Katie took the gig watching Eric because she needs money to go to school. She's been a trainwreck most of her life, forcing her responsible older sister to bail her out of different situations she's gotten herself into. But she's decided to turn over a new leaf. No more hairbrained schemes. No more hanging with the wrong people. Just school and finally getting her life back on track. The money she earns reporting on Eric's movements during the wedding will help her do this. Of course, she doesn't count on a sexual encounter happening with the mark himself at the wedding. But Katie figures she doesn't need to tell her employer that she had hot steamy sex with Eric at the wedding. She can just unequivocally tell her employer that Eric did not have any contact with the bride. But when Eric shows up at the catering shop the next day, Katie is thrown for a loop. Not only do they have incendiary chemistry, but she met him under false pretenses. How will she come clean with him about it? And when he finds out, will he be furious?
I'm on the fence about this book. I like Eric quite a bit. He's a good guy. He's ambitious enough to run for office, but also knows who his friends are, and he really seems to care for Katie. He's not just worried about the news of his and Katie's liaison at the wedding, but he genuinely feels awful about not even getting her name after having hot sex with her. He's a nice guy, and as he gets to know Katie, he discovers that he'd really like to have a relationship with her.
On the other hand, I was less sold on Katie. Probably because romance by deceit is one of my least favorite tropes. And Katie just isn't fully honest with Eric. She comes sort of clean, but even as she's claiming to "love" him, she's still not being completely honest with him. Part of it is immaturity. Part of it is that Katie is just kind of shallow. She uses sex constantly to distract Eric from being mad at her. I totally understood why after two weeks Katie would be in love with Eric. I understood less why Eric would be in love with her. She gets caught being less than honest, he spends a lot of time admiring her "bravery" which to me seemed alot more like Katie backed into a corner and having to come clean. I don't know, I just...didn't buy them living happily ever after. Why would he tie himself to a woman who he knows is a liar? Especially when he's running for office? I just didn't buy it,
All of that being said, I find Dimon's writing to be really engaging. She writes smart dialogue and her sex scenes are hot and earthy. She wrote a couple of secondary characters who I really liked. I think more than anything, the premise of this book didn't really work for me. But I'd definitely give HelenKay Dimon's writing another chance, with a book with a difference premise.
3.75 stars - The Hero in the latest HelenKay Dimon novel, Impulsive, made his first appearance in Holding Out For a Hero, which I loved. Eric, I thought, really got the shaft in HOFaH, so I was pleased to see him get a chance at his HEA. He is an up and coming prosecutor running for District Attorney, with an eye on the Governor's Mansion at some future point. As noted, he meets Katie at Deana (Eric's former fiancee) and Josh's wedding. By meet, I mean has sex with. Nameless, anonymous sex with a stranger. While running for public office. I get that Eric was at an emotional breaking point. I get that the whole DA thing is a small, local race. I even agree that single candidates for public office have every right to expect their private lives to remain private. Having said that, none of the above worked for me on any level, which kind of put the spin on my enjoyment of the book.
Eric is a terrific hero, confident and very self contained. He has an iron grip on his emotions. While reading Holding Out For a Hero, I felt so bad for him. He was so obviously hurting over the loss of Deana, yet trying to do the right thing, trying to let go. Eric got to me in that book, and he got to me in Impulsive, as well. (Even with the questionable choices) When he catches Katie in lie after lie, and then even more half truths and lies of omission, he keeps trying to rationalize her behavior. Granted, some of her untruthful behavior was a misguided attempt to protect him, but how can he ever trust her?
Katie is a 25 year old who is still stuck in an arrested development stage. She does not display a great deal of maturity. Katie lives with her older sister, Cara, and works to help Cara build her catering business. Cara is a sanctimonious type who insists on reminding Katie continuously of her past transgressions. I have to believe this constant revisiting of the past is not helping Katie move on. Katie does seem to care for Eric, but between the lying and the jumping to conclusions, I didn't really see a lot of relationship development except for the sex. By the end of the book, she gets over her irrational jealously of Deana and stands up for herself to the bad guy.
Most of the relationship was spent with them fighting and then seeking each other out to get back together. By the time Eric finally lost his cool, I was not opposed to the idea of him dumping Katie and trying to find another woman with whom he would not have to jump through mental hoops to justify his attraction.I liked Katie for what she was, but I didn't like her as a heroine. She was too immature.
Ms. Dimon spelled out quite clearly that Katie did not believe she was good enough for Eric so she was pushing him away before he could dump her. I read the words, but it did not translate in the story. Their relationship reminded me of a teenage romance. Eric is 37. He is confident, in control. To be baited into a push/pull, manipulative trap of a relationship such as this, well, it just didn't ring true to me.
The saving grace is that Ms. Dimon is a great writer. Just because I did not particularly like the direction the story took does not mean I can't appreciate the writing. She writes spectacular dialogue, and her secondary characters are fleshed out well. I loved Seth,Eric's best friend, although I was sorely disappointed with his love interest, as well.
I would heartily recommend any of Ms. Dimon's other titles, and this was by no stretch a bad book. I just couldn't relate, unfortunately. YMMV.
It's not often I read a book where the sex scene between hero and heroine starts on page 1... and they only met a few minutes before. I thought this was probably a bad sign, that Impulsive was going to turn into one of those all-sex-no-plot stories - but it wasn't.
My only real niggle with the book is this initial sex scene. The rest of the story explores how hero Eric Kimura, a deputy prosecutor and all-round good egg, finds himself drawn to former wild child Katie Long, a woman with secrets who is probably bad for his political ambitions. It seems far too much out of character for Eric to behave as he does at the beginning of the book with an unknown woman, despite it being a rather emotional time for him: he is attending the wedding of his former girlfriend. None of his subsequent behavior really indicates that he's the sort of chap to do this. Although I didn't know this when starting the book, it sat oddly on my mind as I progressed through the story.
Once the reader gets past this rather anomalous start, the book goes from strength to strength. Eric seeks Katie out to check she won't derail his political ambitions with a kiss-and-tell story, but somehow their connection continues. They are quite different - mismatched in age, background, wealth, experience, power, race, everything really - and yet the reader is carried along with the story as they try to make sense of each other and all those differences. Much of the story consists of scenes just between the two of them talking about different things, but with a fair amount of humor.
There's more to the plot, including some negative stuff about Katie that I feared could become rather drawn-out, but no - the author keeps it sensible. The Hawaiian setting doesn't particularly come through; Impulsive could have been based anywhere. I very much enjoyed this book and found both hero and heroine, despite their differences, people who I cared about.
Katie Long is trying to pull her life together and not just be the trouble maker her sister believes her to be. Eric Kimura is starting his campaign to become a prosecutor in Hawaii and the last thing he needs is trouble in his life. What neither of them expect is an explosive moment for the two of them at a wedding that leaves them both wanting more and a connection they can’t deny. But Katie hasn’t been exactly truthful with Eric; she was planted at the wedding to try and dig up some dirt on him. What had started as a chance for her to make some quick cash, Katie has to find a way to extract herself from her undercover position without undermining her budding relationship with Eric. The sparks these two create leap out from the page from their very first meeting and don’t let up throughout the story.
HelenKay Dimon writes an amazing romantic suspense story. For me, this book did deviate a little bit from what I would call her norm. There wasn’t a lot of edge of your seat danger suspense, but the conflict of Katie’s undercover job and background force Eric to make some hard decisions in his life and reflect on what is more important. I also really enjoyed that this hero/heroine were an interracial couple, something not seen very often in romance. And what was really great about this was their differences were introduced but was not a conflict in their romance. The few interracial couples I’ve read have let their racial differences dictate conflict in their Happily Ever After but Katie and Eric saw past any skin color and accepted each other as they are. I thought that was a really great choice in this book. Overall an enjoyable read and a welcome a sexy return to the Men of Hawaii series.
I really enjoyed this contemporary romance set in the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii. The description of the culture, places, and people are so realistic that it took me back to a tropical paradise I was lucky enough to visit a few years ago. This story follows the life of Kate Long, a free spirited woman who is finding herself throughout the novel. She isn't too sure about her future and is precariously living each day while helping out with her sister's catering business to make some money while aspiring to go college. On one of these catering gigs, she meets Deputy Prosecutor Eric Kimura.
It is instant attraction, and what is supposed to be a one time event in a hotel bathroom turns out to be a lot more than both of them bargained for. Amidst running a campaign, dealing with judging Japanese parents, ex-wives, and getting sabotaged, Eric and Kate impulsively take a chance on love.
I really liked this book because it dealt with relationships with really time-relevant issues such as discrimination in interracial relationships (Eric is Japanese) and Katie is all American. I think the internal sabotage on the campaign trail was also interesting because it seemed pertinent. I also enjoyed how Eric is still friendly with his ex-wife, Deana, and reading about how Katie and Eric deal with the ‘ex’ issue.
All in all, I thought this book was well written. If you like relate-able contemporaries, I would highly recommend it.

Impulsive is a rather mediocre read. The heroine made not a whit of sense to me. Her behavior was so all over the map, I wanted to recommend a nice therapist to her. The hero was too long-suffering for me and way too hung up on how the heroine looked and how hot she was in the sack. I never felt he truly cared for her... he saw her as a solution for his needs rather than a fully-formed person who could compliment him.
Additionally, I found the sup-plot bad guy really lame. I did like the hero's best friend. I found him more appealing than the hero, never a good thing!
Impulsive isn't a terrible book by any means. Ms. Dimon does a lovely job of showcasing Hawaii and the customs and vistas that make it such a unique place. And she has a good ear for funny dialog. But, the love story itself isn't convincing and is even, in places, hard to make sense of. With so many better written contemporaries out there, I suggest passing on this one.
I wanted to read this due to a recommendation from a website. And, luckily I was able to receive a free copy (especially since neither of my libraries had a copy. Yet.)
It's a fun, light read. I don't know that it'd be one of my favorite books. But it was enjoyable. A little racier than what I usually read. But there was an interesting dynamic with the characters. (I haven't read any of the others in the series, so I'm hoping that those will contain more backstory on some of the other characters.)
Still, if you need a light read with some heat (and some naughty pillow talk), this will do well.
There are many, many things I really liked about this novel. The dialogue is wonderful, realistic-seeming without being the boring dialogue we actually have in real life, and I really like both the hero and the heroine. The book was funny, entertaining, and I thought the characters felt like real people with real problems.
I didn't love it because, like the heroine, I spent a good portion of the novel wondering "does the hero really like her and why?" It's not that she wasn't likable, it was just that he never seemed to think about her for anything other than how sexy she was until three-quarters of the way through the novel.
Even though this book didn't have any mysterious elements, which is something that I prefer in my books, it was something that I couldn't put down. I literally opened the book and the next time I looked up I was half way through it. HelenKay Dimon is an excellent story-teller. She created characters in this book that were easy to love and fun to read about. I can already tell that this is not going to be the last book I read from her.
I won this book on a giveaway on here..and loved it!! This book is so cute that i read it in one day. Some books you read start off slow..this is not one of them! This is the first book by HelenKay Dimon, but i can't wait to read more. As far as i can tell you do not have to read this series in order.
This book was just what I needed, a fun, flirty, hot read. Eric is the buttoned up lawyer that is thrown for a loop when he meets Katie, who is a free spirit, and slowly reforming bad girl. Their odd courtship was full of fun, the political things not so much, a little boring. If you are in a reading rut this is the perfect book to get you out of it.
Goodness I only read 15 pages of this book and it was just sex in a bathroom stall. and then 5 pages after that, they have sex again. Most of the romance novels that I read had at least some sort of plot line or a conversation before anything frisky happens. I guess I just wasn't in the mood to read the sort.
Wow!! What a start to a book. I really liked this book because it was a quick light read. I love that the book was set in Hawaii and it was a nice visual description of the location that had me wishing I was there. I will definitely read more books by this author.
This is quite possibly the first book I've ever read that opens with a quickie in a bathroom. Zoiks! A little romance. A little intrigue. and a whole lot of misunderstandings follow before the usual conclusion.
I loved this book so much I stayed up way too late to finish it, reading it in only 2 days! Eric is sexy and smart. Katie is fragile and flawed but spunky. I loved how the two of them interacted and how they came to their HEA.
You are laying on the beach in order to tan, you do not want to sleep but you do not really think too hard, pick up this book I was on this state of mind for my first week of vacation. Easy to read, you already know the happy end,but feel good to read this type of novel times to times
Ended up skimming most of this. Neither of the main characters were very interesting and I didn't buy the romance between a high-powered lawyer and a woman who seems to have no direction in her life.
